The Panscholi household is braving the latest developments in the Jiah Khan suicide. Zarina Wahab’s son with Aditya Pancholi, Suraj was arrested for allegedly abetting Jiah Khan’s suicide. She spoke to this paper about the whole episode. Excerpts from an interview:
Suraj is garnering a lot of support on social networks. Think this will help? This will definitely motivate us. Suraj is not a criminal, he is an innocent boy. He is being victimised. Jiah committed suicide and uske liye jo bhi responsible hai woh hai. But how can they keep my child in jail? What was his fault? That he didn’t answer Jiah’s call?
A few days ago, you also went and met Rabiya Khan (Jiah Khan’s mother), but she did not speak to you. I went to meet her because it is a big loss for them. At the time, she was giving an interview, but the minute she saw me she said she wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to talk to anyone and walked away. On the first day, she told the media that her daughter had been depressed. But the second she came to know that Jiah’s last call was to Suraj, she changed her statement. Ever since Jiah Khan committed suicide, and Suraj Pancholi landed in the eye of a storm, a bitter battle has erupted between the two aggrieved mothers. On one hand, Rabiya Khan has been gathering evidence to build a strong case against the Pancholi family, on the other, Suraj’s mother, Zarina Wahab, has been fighting tooth and nail to insulate her son from surging public outrage.
And now, Mirror has obtained copies of Jiah’s ‘last letter’ and a set of five love letters that she wrote to Suraj during their ill-fated affair. The findings (as indicated in the picture) seem to suggest that the handwritings do not match.
A senior police officer (on request of anonymity) from Juhu Police Station said: “If you look at the letters which were at Jiah and Suraj’s house, you get a feeling that something is definitely not all right. However, it will be wrong to say anything emphatically until we get a confirmation from forensic experts.”
To solve the mystery of the mismatched handwriting, cops have now asked for answer sheets and bank forms filled by the late actor.

Zarina Wahab smiles faintly, dark circles under her eyes, before disappearing into the kitchen to make tea. You can see that the woman who captured many a heart paired opposite Amol Palekar as an actress, is struggling to cope with her son Suraj Pancholi being in jail and gossip columns having a field day writing about his role in 26-year-old Jiah Khan’s suicide.
When Zarina returns from the kitchen, her composure is back. “Suraj is equally close to Aditya and I, but there is a lot of me in Suraj. My son cannot raise his hand on anybody,” says the 52-year-old, who has played onscreen mother to Shah Rukh Khan (My Name Is Khan), Hrithik Roshan (Agneepath) and Vivek Oberoi (Rakht Charitra).

When we meet Zarina Wahab at her in-laws’ Juhu residence on Wednesday evening, she has exhaustion written all over her face. After all the last few days have been extremely trying on her family after her son was first accused of allegedly abetting his girlfriend Jiah Khan’s suicide and was later arrested by the Mumbai cops. Zarina however feels that her son is innocent and accuses Jiah’s mother Rabiya Khan of trying to frame her son and also unnecessarily involve Salman Khan in the whole fracas.
When did you come to know about Suraj’s relationship with Jiah? I knew they were good friends and after I had read about the two somewhere, I simply asked him. He was initially shy but later told me about their relationship. Suraj doesn’t lie to me and we share a very close bond. Reconciliation, not sorry, seems to be the hardest word. After the events that followed Jiah Khan’s untimely death — which included Aditya Pancholi’s son Suraj getting arrested for abetting the young actress’s suicide — his mother Zarina Wahab decided to give her grieving counterpart Rabiya Amin a personal visit. Going by the accounts of an onlooker, the meeting didn’t result in many warm moments.
Apparently, it was Aditya’s Pancholi’s idea. After Tuesday’s court proceedings, the actor asked an old family friend ( a journalist-turned-filmmaker) to meet wife Zarina and daughter Sana at a suburban hotel so as to help them figure out how they can help Suraj in the forthcoming legal battle. There, Zarina allegedly insisted that meeting Rabiya at her place would be the right thing to do.
The filmmaker, on condition of anonymity, says, “I was surprised to hear that they wanted to meet Rabiya. Intriguingly enough, the building where she stayed is right next to the hotel.”
Nonetheless, the old friend accompanied Zarina and Sana to Rabiya’s apartment in Juhu to convey their condolences and talk for “at least two minutes”. Tired of seeing her son being vilified, damned and being portrayed as the villain in Jiah Khan’s tragic suicide, Zarina Wahab has decided to take charge of Suraj Pancholi’s public image. It has been decided that the volatile Aditya Pancholi, who had a fracas with the media recently, will stay out of the picture. Live-In Assertion By Actor’s Mum Being Verified

Five letters written by actor Jiah Khan were recovered from the house of Suraj Pancholi, arrested on Monday on charges of abetting the actor’s suicide. The police got Suraj’s custody for two days after they told the Andheri magistrate’s court that they wanted to question him about the letters and also her claim that she had had an abortion.
In a six-page letter that Jiah’s mother Rabiya handed over to the police, she claimed Jiah also alleged that she was tortured by her boyfriend. Jiah hadn’t named anybody, but Rabiya insisted she was referring Suraj.
Following claims by Rabiya that the actor was in a live-in relationship with Suraj, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab for over a year, they are also checking if the law against domestic violence is applicable to the case.
“Jiah’s mother said in her complaint that her daughter was in a live-in relationship with Suraj and he promised to marry her. The law says that in such cases, the domestic violence Act is applicable. We are discussing with legal experts and examining the details of their relationship,” said a senior officer.
Jiah and Suraj were living with their families but would spend time together, like the weekend before she killed herself, and the police are examining if they can be considered a live-in couple.

When did you first know that Jiah was dating Suraj? Last year. Initially, I never stopped her from meeting that boy. He was wooing her with flowers and home-cooked food. And she liked it.
When did you realise that Jiah was in a troubled relationship with him? In February, this year she had come to London. I told her, ‘You are in love but there is no glow on your face’. She broke down. I asked her to share everything with me. I told her ‘Home is hospital, world outside is a battlefield. Don’t hide anything from me’. I asked her to withdraw from the relationship. With Jiah Khan’s mother Rabiya alleging that her daughter ended her life due to “the trauma and the abuse she suffered at the hands of Suraj Pancholi and his father Aditya Pancholi”, B-Town is now wondering what impact it will have on the youngster’s B-Town plans.
Suraj is slated to make his debut with Athiya (Suniel Shetty’s daughter) in a Salman Khan production. Tongues have been wagging whether Suniel, who is known to be fiercely protective of his daughter, will do a rethink about his daughter’s launchpad with the tainted actor-in-waiting.

Jiah Khan’s body was brought to her Sagar Sangeet residence after post mortem around 7 am on June 5. And the burial took place in the afternoon. Riteish Deshmukh, Sophie Choudry, Anju Mahendru, Prem Chopra, Urvashi Dholakia and the Pancholis — Aditya, Zarina Wahab and Suraj — were present at Jiah’s home. But not all of them waited for the funeral procession to begin. The actress’ mother Rabiya and sisters were inconsolable. The last journey began around noon and headed for the Juhu cemetery, where Bollywood legends like Mohammad Rafi and Madhubala have been buried.
While industry seniors like Mahesh Bhatt and Raza Murad, and neighbours like Aloka Bedi (wife of Bollywood villain Ranjeet) and Deepak Parashar were the first ones to rush to her home, others came much later. Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao came with some close friends and immediate family. The actor had earlier told us that he was deeply pained to hear the tragic news because the young Jiah (his co-star in Ghajini) was a close family friend.
When Aditya arrived to offer condolences, he drove over a couple of tripods and a fracas ensued. Some media persons snatched his car keys and there was a heated exchange between the actor and the press.
