Residents objected to the location, forcing the late actor’s family to pull down the brick structure

Recent reports stated the BMC have named a stretch of Yari Road in Andheri after late actor Joy Mukerji on the occasion of his birth anniversary on February 24. A marble plaque with his favourite quote engraved on it – You can’t build an empire with money, you can build it with love – was supposed to be installed at a suitable location so as to announce the newly christened road.
While the late star’s family has gone ahead and invited the who’s who of the film frat, including Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, Govinda, Salim Khan and Helen, Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh and Bappi Lahiri for the naming ceremony, their plans of putting up a plaque have been thwarted.
Mirror has learnt that on Friday, the stage had been set and the family had actually started laying bricks at the site chosen by Mukerji’s widow Neelam and his sons Sujoy and Monojoy. The site in question was just outside the compound wall of Sangeeta Apartments, where the family lives.
However, the neighbours, especially the residents of Sangeeta Apartments, raised strong objection to the choice of location and called the cops, forcing the Mukerjis to beat a hasty retreat. Yesterday, they had to dismantle the brick structure outside Sangeeta Apartments.

Veteran photographer Jagdish Mali found wandering in rags; emotional fraternity offers help

Senior photographer Jagdish Mali, who is credited for immortalising Rekha in his flattering frames, was found wandering the lanes of Versova on Monday afternoon in a deplorable state. Mali, who was considered filmdom’s go-to guy for clutter-breaker portfolios, was dressed in a tattered t-shirt and nothing else.
“He was covered with faeces and looked as though he had not eaten in a while,” says actress Mink Brar, who happened to spot him when she was distributing blanket to beggars. Mink, who is one of the many glamour aspirants to have worked with him, recognised him despite his decrepit state.
Outside a fast food joint on Yari Road, the actress and her brother tried to talk to him. “But he would not answer,” says Mink. “He seemed very disturbed and completely disconnected.” Despite plying him with food and getting hold of a pair of shorts to cover him up, Mali remained unresponsive. “We asked him where he wanted to go. He said: ‘My studio.’ He did not remember that he had sold off his studio where some of the biggest names of the film industry have been photographed. It broke our heart.”

Shahid Kapoor and Harman Baweja would have very little in common had it not been for a certain Priyanka Chopra. The men had been involved with the actress in quick succession, and expectedly did not get along with each other till recently. In fact at a party hosted by Race 2 co-producer Jay Shewakramani in Bandra last year, the two avoided had each other like the plague. But with no PeeCee in their lives – at least not romantically –the two men have struck an unlikely friendship of late. Mirror has learnt that since the past few days, there is a healthy bromance brewing between Shahid and Harman. In fact, Harman drops by at Shahid’s Yari Road apartment every night. The two apparently are passionate about poker, and are often joined in by their other friends as well. The poker parties go on for long happy hours.
A source close to Harman said, “This friendship is raising eyebrows in the industry. Ever since Priyanka parted ways with Harman and started dating Shahid, there was lot of bad blood between the two.”
At that time Harman had admitted in an interview that he could not cope with Shahid and Priyanka’s romance. “It was hard to see her talk on the phone and text. I knew what was happening. I just didn’t want to see Kaminey. I just booked tickets and left the country. It was hard for me to even listen to the songs of that film. Rani Mukerji’s brother gets bail in molestation case

Rani Mukerji’s elder brother, Raja was arrested in Versova on Sunday after a former-vice president of-television channel-turned-writer claimed that he had molested her in his car. Raja (43) who is a film producer was presented before the Andheri court on Monday and released on bail of Rs 10,000.
According to the Versova police officers the complainant is a resident of Yari Road. She had approached Raja through a common contact and on Sunday met him for the first time. Cops said that the 40-year-old victim wanted to direct a film written by her and wanted to cast Rani in her film.
The writer-director in her complaint said, “Raja told me to meet him and said that if he likes the script and the story he would talk to Rani. We met at the four Bungalow signal. We were going to a coffee shop… took me to a lonely spot at the end of Yari Road.”
According to the complaint, Raja then asked her to narrate the story of her proposed film. When she began, Raja allegedly grabbed her and molested her. The complaint also stated that Raja asked the writer-director to ‘compromise’ if she wanted Rani as a lead in the movie.When she refused and got off the car, she began receiving text messages from Raja claiming that he did not mean to molest her and that he was a nice man.

Ashutosh Rana woke up to a rude shock last morning. His red and white Pajero with registration number MH02BD7075 was stolen early in the morning from his society parking compound at Yari Road.
The actor lodged an FIR with the Versova Police Station. It was a surprise birthday gift to him by his wife Renuka Shahane in 2007.
While Ashutosh remained unavailable for comment, his wife Renuka confirmed, “We were informed by our watchman at around 7 am. It is shocking as the car was parked inside the compound of the building.
Apparently, it was robbed between 3.30 am and 6 am. I gifted it to my husband some years ago on his birthday. I hope we get it back soon.
But I must say that whoever has done it, they are really smart as the car is very difficult to open.”

Priyanka Chopra’s mother who has been using their former residence as an office has been asked to shut shop by the society

Priyanka Chopra and her family have been caught in a rather ironical situation. We commonly hear celebrities complaining about their privacy being invaded, however this time around, Priyanka’s mother Madhu has been invading the privacy of her neighbours.
Even though the family shifted to Raheja Classique on Yari Road, Andheri, the Chopra family, who were residents of the Nav Karan Society in Lokhandwala, Andheri, have still kept their two apartments.
Since Madhu operates an office from the 4th floor apartment (Flat no 403), she has several visitors over, which has become a nuisance for the other residents of the society. Angered by the disruption of their comfort and privacy, the residents have unanimously decided to order Madhu to shut down her office.
A society office member, on request of anonymity, told us, “The Chopras have a flat on the 9th floor as well but that’s not used as an office and so we have no problem with that. But yeh office bahut problem create kar rahi hai.”

Kangna goes missing with Gerard?

Hollywood actor Gerard Butler did not seem to get enough of Kangna Ranaut after they met on the sets of her film in the US. Is that why he whisked her off to a four-day holiday to an undisclosed location?

The unit and crew of Vinay Sapru’s Happy New Year returned from Los Angeles with some juicy news and without their leading lady Kangna Ranaut, who they say, was away with Hollywood actor Gerard Butler at an undisclosed location.
While news of Kangna’s rendezvous with Butler is doing the rounds, what was not disclosed was Kangna’s impromptu holiday with Butler.
Butler is not new to Bollywood ladies, in fact he is known to get rather misty-eyed with them. After he was spotted partying with Priyanka Chopra at her Yari Road apartment, where he reportedly went down on his knees pleading with her to marry him, he said, “I don’t mind marrying an Indian girl…too bad Priyanka already has a boyfriend.”
At LA, after Butler met Kangna, sources from the unit say, that the two took this casual bonding to the next level. They did not just party after packup, but took off to an undisclosed place on the day the schedule for the film ended.
A source from the unit told Mumbai Mirror, “Kangna was with Butler at the airport. She was supposed to come back with us in the same flight. But she didn’t. Possibly, the two got into another flight. She did not tell anybody from the unit where she was headed.”

Rumour has it that Shahid Kapoor’s mother and Pankaj Kapoor’s ex-wife Neelima Azim is single again.
Azim and her husband Ustad Raza Ali Khan have parted ways. A source from the industry says, “Raza and Neelima are not together anymore. A few months ago, Raza shifted to Kolkata.”

After their marriage, Azim and Raza started living at Nirman Cottage, Yari Road. Adds the source, “Neelima and Raza had a lot of fights and in the past few months the quarrels had increased. One day, Raza just packed his bags and left.”
However, Azim vehemently rubbishes the rumour and says, “That’s not true. Yes, Raza and I have not been staying together for some time. But that’s because he wanted to do better work.

Yesterday, we told you that Shahid rushed to his ladylove Piggy’s rescue the moment he landed at the Mumbai airport. Here’s the latest. Shahid was present at Priyanka’s flat in Raheja Classique (Yari Road) when the IT officials raided it (for full story, read pg 12).
Says a source, “Both, Shahid and Priyanka were quite shocked by the raid. Shahid could not leave immediately. So, he remained there for sometime.”
A source close to Shahid and Priyanka confirmed and said, “Yes, Shahid was present at Priyanka’s place when the IT raid happened. The IT officials came in around 7.30 am.”
Both Priyanka and Shahid remained unavailable for comment.
