Ajay has a eating-food-with-hands phobia

The actor’s dislike for using his hands to touch food almost borders on OCD — and he has no qualms about admitting it

Meena Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 03, 2010)

Ajay Devgn has a bizarre fetish that is now bordering on an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The actor cannot eat, rather will not eat anything with his hands. He insists on using a fork and a knife to eat just about everything on his plate; be it chicken, bhajjiyas or even a dosa!

It gets better. The actor, who played a rustic in his much acclaimed film Omkara would ask for a fork and a knife if you served him a roti smeared with ghee. His OCD stems from his utter disgust for smelly fingers.

Food, especially Indian, (imagine prawn curry) when eaten with the hands leave some amount of smell on the hands, no matter how well-scented the handwash is. And at restaurants, they dilute even that with water!

Ajay Devgn has a phobia of that reminiscent odour. According to a reliable source in the industry, on the sets of his films, he makes it a point to use a fork and a knife to eat almost everything.

Ajay Devgn

And he is paranoid about cleaning his hands even after using them. So much so, that he would even avoid shaking hands with a person who he knows has not used a knife and a fork; God help a woman with long nails!

If at a bar, Ajay would not touch the complimentary peanuts, firstly because they need to be picked with his fingers, and secondly, because they would be picked More >

Sonam Kapoor will be seen in mature role in Mausam

By Subhash K. Jha, June 19, 2010 – 10:38 IST

After playing the giddy headed starry-eyed young lover-girl in all her films so far including the about-to-be-released I Hate LUV Storys, Sonam Kapoor in Mausam is all set to play a girl who evolves into a woman in the course of the film.

Her clothes which are always a source of powerful on-screen personality-transference for her has been worked on at great lengths by designer Anamika Khanna. And the result, says a member of the crew, is no less than devastating.

Apparently, Sonam was initially reluctant to get into the mature mould. “She had reservations about being bracketed in the mature mould so early in her career. In all her films so far from Saawariya to Thank You, Sonam has played a girl her own age and dressed accordingly, in what she’s comfortable with. The Western clothes that ‘d transform her into a chic Delhi socialite in Aisha are as much a part of her personality as the salwar-kameez that she wore in Delhi 6.”

Apparently, designer Anamika Khanna who has worked earlier with Sonam in Delhi 6 has been pouring over the designs with Sonam trying to figure out what clothes she’s most comfortable in.

Shahid, who needed to make a sartorial changeover to play the mature mellow lover in the later part of the film, has also been heard joking about how Mausam has turned him and Sonam into overnight adult stars.

Says the Mausam producer Sheetal Talwar, “Shahid has sported the mature mellow look in Jab We Met. More >

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, February 4, 2010 – 13:29 IST

One of the most stylish star-wives in tinsel town is none other than Twinkle Khanna. Twinkle, who still looks like she could give the current breed of actresses a run for their money, features on the cover page of this month’s issue of fashion and style magazine Grazia. Looking like a million bucks, Twinkle is seen wearing a red coloured textured dress by Blugirl.

In an exclusive interview with Grazia, Twinkle talks about her style statement and her favorite designers. She says, “A woman has to always go by her structure and make the most of it, rather than try to dress like someone else. I love flowing dresses, but I can’t really wear them because they overwhelm my frame. For me, everything has to be cinched at the waist.”

Finally, Twinkle also shares some valuable insights on how she manages to juggle between her various roles of a devoted mother, loving wife, successful businesswoman and veritable style genius. All this and more indeed makes for some very interesting read.

Atul Kulkarni-Flexing his feminine side

By Vishwas Kulkarni (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 31, 2010)

// // // He is currently the toast of Marathi cinema for his critically-acclaimed role in Natrang, a smash Marathi indie about the trials and tribulations of a tamasha nachya.

An impoverished day labourer, who doubles up as an amateur wrestler, transforms from being the village pehelwan to a nachya, the stock effeminate comedian in a tamasha troupe.

The film chronicles the artiste’s anguished journey from prejudice to popular acclaim. The success of Natrang has suddenly created a buzz around the world of Marathi cinema. Competing with biggies such as Avatar and 3 Idiots, both monstrous blockbusters, Natrang has become a case study for a successful Marathi flick.

From one screening a day on Day One to two screenings a day on Day Two, to three screenings a day on Day Three at Eros, the film has reached a far wider audience than anticipated; in fact after almost a month’s run it is even coming out with subtitled prints. And its lead actor Atul Kulkarni has been happy to host trails for the latest feather in his cap.

Excerpts from an interview:

How did you accept this role?

I have a simple rule. I usually respond to the script. When I initially received the bound screenplay (an entire entourage starring Nikhil Sane from Zee Talkies, director Ravi Jadhav, the producer, the cinematographer, landed up at my house to convince me, something I found very touching). But I still had to get into the idea. On reading the More >

READY AGAIN! Adnan Sami

Adnan Sami is all set to tie the knot with a German girl on January 31

SUBHASH K JHA (BOMBAY TIMES; January 22, 2010)

Yes, Adnan Sami is getting married… in an undisclosed part of Europe on January 31 to German girl Roya Faryabi.

“All our family members are going to be at the wedding. I’d like all my friends from Mumbai to accompany me. Unfortunately, there’s no time for them to make travel arrangements. So I’ll have a large wedding reception in Mumbai as soon as Roya and I return.” At the moment, Jermaine Jackson and his wife are on the guest list. The groom-tobe will be rushing in and out of court hearings and bridal fittings, barely bidding adieu to wife number 2 Sabah Galadari, before tying the knot with wife number 3, who according to Adnan, is perfect wife material. “I was going through the worst phase of my life when I met Roya. I lost my grandfather, then my father. She held my hand during my darkest hours while I was fighting the ugliest court battle with my former wife. Roya is very family-oriented. More than the fact that she loves me, I love her for understanding the importance of family ties. Roya respects my mother.”

Most important of all Adnan’s son Azaan gets along like a house of fire with his new stepmom-to-be.

Talking about Roya, Adnan says, “I wouldn’t say she came into my life suddenly. We got to know each other gradually. After having gone through what I have, I was in no mood to jump into a new relationship. But it More >

Woman harassed by lewd calls as film flashes her cell number

Mahafreed Irani | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; January 7, 2010)

Mumbai: Andheri resident Rupa Asher is not having a very happy new year for she has been receiving more lewd text messages and blank calls than good wishes. The distraught housewife didn’t know why she was getting calls from random numbers in the middle of the night asking for “Sophia’’ till one caller told her that it was the number of a sexy Neha Dhupia in the film Raat Gayi Baat Gayi.

The calls haven’t stopped and continue to increase in frequency as the movie goes into its first week. While some callers indulge in obscene talk and ask for favours, others call and disconnect at odd times. A distressed Rupa’s husband Sanjeev, who hasn’t seen the movie, logged on to YouTube to check whether the number was actually being flashed in the movie.

“The number has been distinctly repeated in the film and the makers can easily mute it,’’ he says.

When Asher approached the producers, Pritish Nandy Communications, she says she was asked to change the number or wait for a little while till the film stopped screening in movie halls. Director Saurabh Shukla, who is in Kerala, didn’t know about the case but lead actor Rajat Kapoor said he had apologised to the family for the inconvenience caused because of negligence by the film crew. “A police complaint should be registered not against the film but the people who are making the lewd calls,’’ says Kapoor who thinks that filmmakers often miss out on small details like More >

Hrithik delivers 5 1/2 min monologue in one take

Hrithik Roshan, who used to stammer, delivered a five-and-a-half minute monologue for Guzaarish, compelling Sanjay Leela Bhansali to bracket him in the same league as Amitabh Bachchan By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 05, 2009)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to be demanding director, but he gives credit where it’s due. According to an eye-witness Hrithik had to recently deliver a five-and-a-half minute-long monologue while shooting for a crucial turning point scene in Guzaarish

It had been broken up into three parts to ease the pressure on Hrithik. As the star launched into it, Bhansali was ready to call for a cut after two minutes. To his astonishment, Hrithik did not stop and delivered the entire monologue in one fluid take.

This amazed not only the entire crew, but the director as well. The monologue has Hrithik remembering a woman from his past, before he becomes wheelchair-bound. The intensity stunned everyone on the sets, as it was obvious that Hrithik had worked hard to memorise the part and rehearse it before reaching the sets. Bhansali walked up to the actor and said, ‘What can I say?’

A wary Hrithik thought that he had messed up. Bhansali then gave him the greatest compliment an actor can hope to hear from his director. He said to Hrithik, ‘You are in Bachchan’s league.’ Remember Amitabh Bachchan’s monologue in the climax of Baghban?

Rituparno Ghosh mistaken for Rituparna Sengupta

On Monday evening, filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh was mistaken for Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta by the organisers of the 40th International Film Festival in Goa By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 02, 2009)

Filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh might have lost oodles of weight and started dressing up as a woman but that still didn’t prepare him enough to unflappably face the latest confusion where he was mistaken for a Bengali actress.

The embarrassing incident happened on Monday evening in Goa, where Rituparno, whose sexual orientation has been under the scanner for some time now, was attending the 40th International Film Festival. He had to attend a function to announce the making of a survey-based book compiling the best Indian films of all times, T 20. Being a jury member and a renowned filmmaker, Rituparno was dressed in his finery. He wore a chic black suit, flaming red scarf and oversized sunglasses, looking in his own words, ‘very European’. All was well till he was taken to a seat marked for Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta. That’s when the filmmaker realised that he had been mistaken for a woman. Riya Sen was seated next to actress Rituparna Sengupta’s chair, making it clear that the seats were meant for the starlets.

Things then got worse. Ritu’s other colleagues on the jury, for the book T 20, were all given VIP space at the event while Rituparno was expected to sit with the starlets.
