Akshay jumps down two floors, hurts his foot but continues shooting
1Ram Kohli (DNA; May 2, 2013)
On Tuesday night, Akshay Kumar hurt himself while shooting for Vipul Shah’s tentatively titled film Pistol. The film, directed by AR Murugadoss (of Ghajini fame), is a remake of Thuppakki, in which action plays a significant part. This particular stunt required Akshay to run down six floors of a building, crossing each floor with a jump.
As a source from the unit reveals, “It was a long action sequence and had to be captured in a single shot. From the sixth floor to the second floor, all went well. On the second floor, he made a leap straight to the ground floor. Akshay’s timing was perfect but mid-way through the jump he tried to make an adjustment to get the camera angle right and that’s when the stunt went wrong.”
The actor twisted his ankle. He winced and everyone rushed to Akki’s side. The director suggested pack-up but the actor insisted on completing the sequence, which eventually wrapped up at two in the morning. As our source informs, “He went on with the rest of the scene as if nothing had happened. AK knew the production didn’t have permission for the location the following day. And getting the location again for a few shots the following day would have meant a huge cost to the production.”
It was after pack-up that Akshay went for a check-up. He has been advised to give his foot some rest.
Akshay Kumar to be action advisor for Commando’s sequel?
0Jigar Shah (MID-DAY; May 1, 2013)
Producer Vipul Shah wants buddy Akshay Kumar to be a part of the sequel to Commando starring Vidyut Jammwal. The action star however will not be acting in it, but be on board as consultant and advisor. As Akki is synonymous with action, Vipul is keen to have the star’s guidance. At present the Khiladi is working in the Hindi remake of a South film being produced by Vipul.
Says a source, “When the sequel was announced, Vipul felt there was no one better than Akshay as consultant for the action sequences. He’ll be guiding Vidyut too.” The filmmaker and the Khiladi have earlier worked together in films like Waqt: The Race Against Time and Singh Is Kinng.
Vidyut Jammwal, Pooja Chopra gear up for Commando sequel?
0Parag Maniar (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 19, 2013)
The sequel to Commando is in the offing. The encouraging box office collections coupled with positive response from the opening weekend has instigated the makers, Reliance Entertainment and Vipul Shah, to give a shot to a franchise. And though they are yet to begin scripting, the makers plan to make the film on a larger and more lavish scale.
A trade source observed that both, the critics and the masses, appreciated this action-romance and the decision to make a follow up should not come as a surprise.
The trade source said, “Commando has created a new benchmark in the action space and has brought back the genre to the fore. Vidyut Jammwal’s mix martial arts and hand-to-hand combat action was something never seen before in Hindi cinema.
Interestingly, romance has been well blended into the theme too. The film continues to hold ground after its opening weekend and had an edge over others doing lucrative business in multiplexes and single screens.”
When contacted, producer Vipul Shah, confirmed saying, “The overwhelming response inspired me! People including the aged and even the women told me that the theme befits a sequel. Also, it’s not about success as much as it is about appreciation. There have been successful films made in the past but the audience response has been like, “iss mein kuch mazaa nahi.” That has not been the case with our film.”
Sanjeev Lamba, CEO, Reliance Entertainment added, “The befitting subject and apt More >
With Force 2, John Abraham to finally do his first-ever sequel?
0He has never acted in a sequel of his films (Dhoom, Jism) before this
Upala KBR (DNA; April 12, 2013)
John Abraham has been part of three sequels (Race 2, Housefull 2 and Shootout At Wadala) although he wasn’t part of the original films. Strangely the actor hasn’t acted in the sequels of any of his films like Dhoom 2 and Jism 2. Now the buzz is that he will be part of Force 2. In fact, he plans to carry forward the Action Abraham image and ensure that the story of ACP Yashvardhan (name of John’s character in the film) is taken forward.
However, insiders claim that the future of the film is dicey because the studio (Fox) won’t get involved with the film unless director Vipul Shah clears monies owed to them. Apparently there is a financial issue that’s not been honoured by the filmmaker. However, Fox is as excited about the sequel as John. Meanwhile Vipul is also toying with the idea of making F2 independently, without involving the studio. But till the problems are sorted between Vipul and Fox, the film can’t go on the floor.
The actor confirms, “Yes, Fox Star Studios has approached me to do Force 2 as they believe it has the propensity to be the most successful action brand in the country. There are issues that Fox and Vipul need to work out before we can get started on this.”
Vipul, whose Commando starring Vidyut Jamval releases this Friday, says, “I laugh when I hear such things. Everyone knows that in the film trade if a producer owes money to anyone his film won’t be More >
Pooja Chopra holds the emotional world of Commado together-Vipul Shah
0BOMBAY TIMES (April 6, 2013)
Commando is a high-octane action film, but there is one more important element in it — the romantic angle, which has been portrayed by debutante Pooja Chopra. She is the central female character in the movie and has seamlessly essayed a spectrum of emotions.
When asked about her performance, producer Vipul Shah says, “While Vidyut (Jammwal) does the daredevil stunts, Pooja holds the emotional world of the film together. We knew we had a challenge at hand when we had decided to cast a new girl. I’m really glad we chose the perfect actress as Commando’s lead. Pooja is a natural. The way she has performed in this film, it feels like she is a very experienced actor. I’ve worked with many actresses in the early stages of their careers and seen them become stars. I am sure Pooja is going to join the ranks very soon.”
61 Indian directors to interact with Steven Spielberg
0Jigar Shah (MID-DAY; March 11, 2013)
It’s almost impossible to not know who Steven Spielberg is. And for some lucky Indian directors, the dream of meeting and knowing him better is about to come true. Turns out the celebrated Hollywood filmmaker will be interacting with about 60 personalities from Indian cinema and share tips on filmmaking.
Spielberg, who is known for films like Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, ET, Jaws and Jurassic Park, is making his maiden trip to India. This development is a direct result of his association with Anil Ambani. The industrialist’s entertainment production house has a tie-up with the American’s film studio. In fact they both produced the much-acclaimed Lincoln, amongst other films. Fittingly enough, a special party in his honour has been organised on the March 12 where Spielberg shall be meeting the who’s who of Indian film industry.
What’s more interesting about this event is that Spielberg would be having an interactive session with a room full of directors from the country who have already confirmed their presence. A well-placed source says, “It can easily be called as master class session wherein Steven Spielberg will be imparting knowledge to Indian directors and would be learning from them as well and the list includes the biggest of names like Rajkumar Hirani, Anurag Kashyap, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Abhishek Kapoor, Habib Faisal, Ram Gopal Varma, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Farah Khan to name a few.”

Is Vidyut Jamwal the next big action hero?
0Vipul Shah feels his protégé has immense potential
Garima Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; March 7, 2013)
He put his money where his mouth was way back. And, now that the trailer of his next film, Commando, is out, co-producer Vipul Shah feels he has found the perfect protagonist in Vidyut Jamwal. The actor will be seen romancing former Miss India Pooja Chopra in the film that is directed by Dilip Ghosh.
Says Shah, “When Vidyut worked with me in Force (2011), I saw immense potential in him for action. That’s when I decided to work with him for this film. A lot of effort was put in to prepare him for the role and we believe we’ve got what we set out to achieve. Vidyut is the next big action hero of the current generation.”
The immense effort, says Vipul, included four months of training. “Action choreographer Franz Spilhaus from South Africa started work four months before the shooting. He choreographed the stunts in his studio and sent them to us digitally, which we sent them back with corrections. We practised the stunts here before Franz and his team arrived. We trained with them for 20 days at real locations. Vidyut unflinchingly worked through this, training for six to eight hours a day. He’s performed every stunt himself, without any cables. That speaks volumes of what he has achieved. And it will not just attract certain audiences. The action in the film has a lot of physical movement, grace and style. It is so stylised that it’ll seem like a ballet. Our aim was to take More >
Vidyut Jammwal hopes to become desi action hero, a la Arnold
0Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; January 18, 2013)
Newbie Vidyut Jammwal, who was seen in the John Abraham starrer Force, is keen to be known as B- Town’s action star.
In the upcoming Vipul Shah production, the actor has indulged in some daredevil combats. But what’s also giving him an adrenaline rush is that the ultimate action star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new project The Last Stand has hit the marquee.
It’s also a fanboy moment for Vidyut as his film has him essay a special forces agent — a role which Schwarzenegger reprised in his well known 1985 film Commando. Co-incidentally, Vidyut’s next too is titled Commando
Says a source, “Schwarzenegger is back on the big screen after a hiatus with his new movie. While Vidyut, who is also a martial artist, is all set to kickstart the promotions for his project. He feels it is an uncanny coincidence. When it comes to action, Arnold leads with a line-up that boasts of extremely stylised, high-impact action films, which changed the action genre. The newbie hopes that he too can be synonymous with auctioneers in Bollywood.”
Adds the source, “Vidyut has done some hardcore yet true-to-life stunts in the flick. He is being touted to change the action landscape in India with sequences that include mid- air splits and somersaults besides flip punches — all done by him without any body double.” Producer Vipul Shah and his unit are hoping that their leading man will change the game of action in India much like how Arnold did with his 1985 film in More >
Govinda approached for Akshay Kumar-starrer Thupakki remake
0Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; January 9, 2013)
After much wait, Govinda has finally signed another film. The film is the remake of Tamil hit Thuppakki and he will be playing the role that was earlier played by South actor Jayaram.
Previously there was buzz that director A R Murugadoss wanted to sign Jayaram for the Hindi remake as well but later Govinda managed to make the final cut.
Producer Vipul Shah says, “Jayaram was never in the picture. Govinda was always our first choice. We would love to have him on board.” Govinda refuses to confirm his presence in the film. All he says is, “This is not the right time to talk about the role.”
Vipul sir has been very encouraging-Vidyut Jammwal
0Vidyut Jammwal on how filmmaker Vipul Shah helped him get a foothold in the industry
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; January 7, 2013)
Vidyut Jammwal made his debut with Vipul shah’s Force and made an impact in a negative role. He’ll be next seen making his debut as a lead actor in Shah’s Commando. As expected, Vidyut feels blessed to have kickstarted his career with a renowned name like Vipul’s from the industry.
When contacted Vidyut says, “Vipul sir is someone who I owe a lot to for the kind of faith he’s put in me after he saw what I was capable of with Force. He promised me that whenever he does an action film next, he’ll definitely do it with me and he stood by it. I had a chance to perform the kind of action I would want to see and would like audiences to see on screen. He’s been very encouraging and seeing the kind of belief he has in me is truly humbling which instills a sense of responsibility to push myself to be better at my craft with every passing day.”
Vidyut further adds, “His experience and knowledge, not just in the business but also in life, precedes him making him someone whose point of view really matters. He and I have conversations ranging from his feedback on my work/ performance to what our favorite food is!”
Incidentally Vipul is also producing the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster Thuppaki that had Vidyut as the negative lead but in the Hindi version, Vipul is introducing a new guy.
