For someone who’s a teetotaler in real life, it is not an easy task to play an alcoholic on-screen. But Sunny Deol has convincingly played such roles in many of his earlier films. And for Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru’s I Love New Year, produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, the actor has shot an entire track — Gud Naal Ishq Meetha — while playing an alcoholic. It shows Sunny’s character in high spirits as he celebrates New Year with his friends and announces his engagement.
Says the actor, “Well, it’s a mood song where all of us friends are excited because I am going to settle down with the girl I love. When a person gets drunk, he is not in his senses and that’s exactly how I have been captured on screen. He is completely talli in love.”
So was it difficult playing a drunken man? “The moment you capture the pulse, things automatically fall into place. It is like playing a game where you just get into the flow of it. Plus, I had my directors, who kept a check and took takes till the shot was okay,” he replies, adding, “Believe me, I am being offered more roles that require me to play a drunkard. That’s really strange because I don’t drink. I have seen my dad and lots of people around me getting drunk and you feel the intoxication even if you don’t drink. Aur phir unki baate sunke mere ko bhi chad jaati thi.”
I Love New Year, produced by T-Series, releases April 26.

London-based actor Navin Chaudhury sought permission of Sunny Deol before bashing him up for a scene in Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru’s I Love NY. For a sequence, Navin had to strangulate and punch the star but he was scared to do so out of sheer respect. He actually went to Sunny paaji and told him about his trepidation about the specific scene.
Says a source from the unit, “Sunny is a popular name in London and Navin’s family too are Sunny’s fans. He was hesitant before doing that scene so he asked Sunny if he should do it. The unit folk couldn’t stop laughing when after the shot he asked Sunny if he was hurt.” The source adds, “Navin thought that the people who were watching the shoot in London would beat him up if he punched Sunny in front of them!” After the shot, Sunny hugged the poor guy and made him feel comfortable.

On the sets of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru’s upcoming film , I Love NY, both Kangna Ranaut and Sunny Deol went an extra mile to give their very best to the project.
While rehearsing for one of the scenes, Kangs apparently got so engrossed that the entire crew stopped work and couldn’t take their eyes off the actress. Sunny too was intense during his rehearsals, discussing the details with his co-stars, director and crew.
A source says, “Kangs got so immersed in her rehearsal that she even got a round of applause from her crew. Sunny used to personally monitor his scenes to make sure they were shot correctly, with all the right kinds of emotions and expressions.”

Hollywood actor Gerard Butler did not seem to get enough of Kangna Ranaut after they met on the sets of her film in the US. Is that why he whisked her off to a four-day holiday to an undisclosed location?

The unit and crew of Vinay Sapru’s Happy New Year returned from Los Angeles with some juicy news and without their leading lady Kangna Ranaut, who they say, was away with Hollywood actor Gerard Butler at an undisclosed location.
While news of Kangna’s rendezvous with Butler is doing the rounds, what was not disclosed was Kangna’s impromptu holiday with Butler.
Butler is not new to Bollywood ladies, in fact he is known to get rather misty-eyed with them. After he was spotted partying with Priyanka Chopra at her Yari Road apartment, where he reportedly went down on his knees pleading with her to marry him, he said, “I don’t mind marrying an Indian girl…too bad Priyanka already has a boyfriend.”
At LA, after Butler met Kangna, sources from the unit say, that the two took this casual bonding to the next level. They did not just party after packup, but took off to an undisclosed place on the day the schedule for the film ended.
A source from the unit told Mumbai Mirror, “Kangna was with Butler at the airport. She was supposed to come back with us in the same flight. But she didn’t. Possibly, the two got into another flight. She did not tell anybody from the unit where she was headed.”

The success of Yamla Pagla Deewana seems to have given a fresh lease of life to Sunny Deol’s dipping career. His tentatively titled film Happy New Year with T-Series, which was put on hold for two years, picked up again.
He has recently finished a schedule of the film and has started shooting for Chandra Prakash Dwivedi’s Kashi Ka Assi. A source close to Sunny informs, “The T-Series film was supposed to go on floor in 2009 but was kept on hold for two years as the producers were unsure of Sunny’s market position at that time.
But seeing the promos of Yamala Pagla Deewana and hearing the good buzz about the film the producers decided to roll the film and cash in on that.”
The director Vinay Sapru however gives another version. “Mr. Bushan Kumar believed in the script and cast from the beginning regardless of the fate of Yamla Pagla Deewana. Last year, we couldn’t shoot due to recession,” says Sapru, on returning from the US after completing a 25-days-schedule with Sunny Deol and Kangna Ranaut.

All izz not well for Tabu and Sunny Deol. Their once- impressive careers have hit a low patch lately. And to make it worse K.C. Bokadia has suddenly woken up with a long in-the-cans film Khuda Kasam. Earlier entitled The Challenge, the film was deemed as good as gone when it was miraculously revived.
When asked about it Tabu’s terse reply is, “It’s a film that was made 12 years ago.” Sunny and Tabu were a hit pair in J P Dutta’s Border. But pretty much a flop in their other films together namely Maa Tujhe Salaam, Jaal The Trap and Himmat.
Sunny defends the producer’s right to release his film as and when he wants. “It’s his money, and his film. He can release it when he wants. Who am I to object to it? People don’t realize how much effort goes into a film and how painful it is to let a film remain in the cans.”
However Sunny and Tabu are unlikely to be promoting Khuda Kasam in any way. Sunny Deol is going to be off action for a while. His next film is an out and out love story directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru (of Lucky fame). Sunny pairs with Kangna Ranaut in the film. Says the last action hero, “There will be no stunts, no action this time. Sorry, if that disappoints my fans. This one is an out-and-out love story.”
Even the proposed action sequences that Sunny is about to shoot with his dad Dharmendra and brother Bobby for Samir Karnik’s Yamla Pagla Deewana will be comic in nature.
