My debut will be even bigger than Deepika or Anushka’s-Pooja Chopra

Jigar Shah (MID-DAY; April 4, 2013)

Like several of her predecessors, former beauty queen Pooja Chopra is all set to join Bollywood and will make her debut opposite Vidyut Jamwal in Commando.

And Pooja feels this is a dream launch any newbie can get, even better than Deepika Padukone or Anushka Sharma’s debut projects.

Both Dippy and Anushka made their Bollywood debuts opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

Pooja feels she should be credited for “holding the film together” and not being a mere “prop”. The film will have Vidyut in an all- action avatar.

Says Pooja, “I feel so blessed that I’m not a prop in the film. I have shown a variety of emotions. After seeing the film, people will say the hero and the villain did their stuff, but it was the heroine who held the film together. My debut will be even bigger than Deepika or Anushka’s.”

We will have to wait and watch.

Irrfan lands announced on the sets of Bullet Raja; plays Holi

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; April 1, 2013)

Looks like all’s well between Irrfan Khan and director Tigmanshu Dhulia yet again.

The actor, who was forced to opt out of Tigmanshu’s upcoming film Bullet Raja starring Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, landed up on the sets of the film in Lucknow to celebrate Holi. Eyebrows were raised when the actor arrived with his wife Sutapa unannounced, to meet and greet the Bullett Raja ( that extra t now to be numerologically correct!) unit folk.

Says a source, “Irrfan was keen to celebrate Holi and the success of Paan Singh Tomar with Tigmanshu and producer Rahul Mittra. No one had an inkling of his trip and he just landed on the sets. Everyone was taken by surprise. After celebrating Holi, they played cricket and even flew kites. In the night they partied at a five- star till the wee hours of the morning.”

According to B-Town buzz, Tishu was in no mood to wait for Irrfan, who was facing date issues as the shoot was delayed, for the project. He immediately replaced him with newbie Vidyut Jamwal. This came as a surprise as the director had expressed a desire to work with his Paan Singh Tomar and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangstar Returns hero yet again. Though the film headlined Saif, he had specially created a role for Irrfan as he was keen to have him in his project.

Irrfan was apparently taken aback to see the haste in which Tigmanshu had replaced him.

Adds the source, “Irrfan considers Tigmashu his dear friend and there was no way this incident More >

A scandalous MMS clip allegedly with Mona Singh in it has gone viral. The actress says her face has been morphed onto somebody else’s body

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; March 30, 2013)

TV actress Mona Singh has filed a case with the Cyber Crime Cell regarding an MMS clip that has gone viral, which allegedly shows the actress in the nude. “It is completely appalling and disgraceful that someone on the web can go to the extent of morphing my face onto someone else’s body to create a sensational video. We have filed a severe complaint at the Cyber Crime Cell and are hoping to find the culprit,” said Mona. “People need to realise that before being actors, we’re respectable women and have family and friends who we are answerable to and who get affected by negativity that is thrown in our direction. Thankfully, my family and friends are standing by me like they always have, supporting me to see this through. If today, this can happen to me, it can happen to any innocent girl and things like this can ruin lives and careers forever. This is a very serious issue and it needs to stop!”

Best remembered for her stellar debut on TV in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Mona Singh, who enjoys considerable fan following for her modest, girlnext-door sensibilities, was caught unawares by a MMS clip that went viral on Thursday night.

Vidyut Jamwal turns coach for stuntmen on sets of Commando

Jigar Shah (MID-DAY; March 21, 2013)

Here’s one more instance of why Vidyut Jamwal has made headlines for his action stunts. Apparently while shooting for his next, the actor had a tip or two to pass on to the stuntmen themselves, who were working in the film.

According to sources, a specific stunt sequence was altered at the last minute. Vidyut was called in to perform the seemingly impossible stunt. However, the actor performed it with great ease.

A source present on the sets says, “Vidyut is known for doing his stunts on his own. For a fight sequence, professional stuntmen dressed as henchmen were chasing the actor and were required to wriggle through the open windows of a car. After repeated attempts also, they failed to execute the scene.”

It was then that the sequence was changed and Vidyut was asked to step up and do the same stunt. “Vidyut could easily do it. The stuntmen were later seen surrounding him and taking tips on action sequences,” adds the source.

Why Vipul Shah wanted Pooja to not wear black saree in his next

Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; March 20, 2013)

With Katrina Kaif wearing a black saree in the popular track from Vipul Shah’s Singh Is Kinng, Teri Ore went on to become a chartbuster. However, the producer was unwilling to have a déjà vu moment when he realised his upcoming film Commando’s heroine Pooja Chopra too was sporting a black saree in a song.

The producer put his foot down and asked the designers to give Pooja a different saree. A source says, “Recently the film’s lead actors Vidyut Jamwal and Pooja had shot a song in Bhuj. Shooting in the desert, Vipul was keen to recreate the magic of Teri Ore. However, he was very clear that he didn’t want the song to be a copy.” The producer felt that everyone who had seen Katrina shimmering in her black saree in Singh Is Kinng would go back in the moment.

The source adds, “To bring out Pooja’s look, the designer had to change to a different coloured saree and it suited her fine.” However, Vidyut is said to be wearing white in the song, exactly like Akshay Kumar sported in the previous film.

Vipul remained unavailable for comment.

At 11, I had done martial art shows in 30 countries-Vidyut Jamwal

Priya Gupta (BOMBAY TIMES; March 18, 2013)

Vidyut Jamwal, 32, has been trained in Kalaripayattu, ‘the mother of all martial arts’, from the age of three. By the age of 11, he had done martial art shows in over 30 countries. At 14, he read the Vedas. He is happy to be typecast an action hero as that is what he was born to do. Ahead of his action-based love story Commando, he talks to Bombay Times about his unique action skills, why he does not miss his father and the false rumour of his secret marriage to girlfriend Mona Singh. Excerpts:

How did you get into martial arts? I am a Rajput, was born in Kanpur and my dad was in the army. When I was a year and a half, I was taken away to my mother’s ashram in Palakkad, Kerala, that she started and is the head of. She does Kathakali in Kalari and is a master in Reiki. I am still associated with the ashram where, at the age of three, I started learning Kalaripayattu, the mother of all martial arts in the world. It is an amazing art but is dead as it has not been marketed well like Kung Fu and other Chinese martial arts. All other martial arts come from this one that was started by an Indian Bodhi Dharma. He moved from India to China and started the Shaolin temple. He was in the space of spirituality and awareness of the human body. I was fortunate to learn it without even realising it. It involves a lot of Yoga, meditation and Kalari. I used to do these small shows from the age of five with a lot of weapons. Later, I studied in More >

Vidyut Jamwal-Pooja Chopra indulge in intense desert romance

Parag Maniar (BOMBAY TIMES; March 16, 2013)

The first promo of Commando might have sparked off the buzz of it being a hardcore action flick. But the Vidyut Jammwal-Pooja Chopra love story is an integral part of the film. Sources associated with the movie say that this also gives Vidyut a broader platform to showcase his talent.

Asserting that the young actor’s versatility took the unit by surprise, our source adds, “So far, we had seen him in action as he showed his daredevil skills on screen. But, in fact, he’s a good dancer too and has performed some really watchable dance moves in the song Lut Jawaa. And the track Saawan Bairi features Vidyut as an incurable romantic; his chemistry with Pooja is clearly visible in the beautifully picturised number.”

Shot at a picturesque location in an arid desert, Saawan Bairi reflects the mood of the raw romance between Vidyut and Pooja. “As seen in other songs like Suraj Hua Madham with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in Khabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or Teri Or with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in Singh Is Kinng, this Commando song has been shot in a sea of sand, the beauty of which has immensely inspired our film’s makers,” sums up our source.

Commando, produced by Reliance Entertainment and Vipul Shah, releases April 12.

Is Vidyut Jamwal the next big action hero?

Vipul Shah feels his protégé has immense potential

Garima Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; March 7, 2013)

He put his money where his mouth was way back. And, now that the trailer of his next film, Commando, is out, co-producer Vipul Shah feels he has found the perfect protagonist in Vidyut Jamwal. The actor will be seen romancing former Miss India Pooja Chopra in the film that is directed by Dilip Ghosh.

Says Shah, “When Vidyut worked with me in Force (2011), I saw immense potential in him for action. That’s when I decided to work with him for this film. A lot of effort was put in to prepare him for the role and we believe we’ve got what we set out to achieve. Vidyut is the next big action hero of the current generation.”

The immense effort, says Vipul, included four months of training. “Action choreographer Franz Spilhaus from South Africa started work four months before the shooting. He choreographed the stunts in his studio and sent them to us digitally, which we sent them back with corrections. We practised the stunts here before Franz and his team arrived. We trained with them for 20 days at real locations. Vidyut unflinchingly worked through this, training for six to eight hours a day. He’s performed every stunt himself, without any cables. That speaks volumes of what he has achieved. And it will not just attract certain audiences. The action in the film has a lot of physical movement, grace and style. It is so stylised that it’ll seem like a ballet. Our aim was to take More >

No body double, wires, cables for Vidyut Jamwal in Commando

Vipul Shah on choosing his Force discovery for Commando

Garima Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; October 2, 2012)

Vipul Shah ardently believes in Vidyut Jamwal. After Force, the producer-director has signed the actor for his next, titled Commando — The War Within directed by debutant director Dilip Ghosh and launches former Miss India Pooja Chopra opposite the actor. Shooting is currently on in Manali. Reveals Vipul, “I’d seen Vidyut’s showreel while making Force and realised that I have to make a unique action film with him in the future. It’s his skill-set, so evidently oriented for action films.”

Therefore, in essence, the film is being made solely for Vidyut? “Yes, in a way. Also, we’ve got renowned Hollywood action choreographer Franz Spilaus to design the film’s action.” Vidyut, in fact, has been training for over three months for it since he plays a special-ops secret agent of the Indian Armed Services in the film.

Adds Vipul, “There are no wires, no body doubles and no cables. Vidyut has done every single thing himself.”

Reliance Entertainment CEO Sanjeev Lamba, says, “Since the audience is taking to action films like never before, a high concept gritty film is sure to showcase Vidyut’s unparalleled talent in Indian mixed martial arts. The scale of the action and the execution of the combat sequences are on par with Hollywood standards.”

Commando, produced by Reliance Entertainment and Vipul Shah’s Sunshine Pictures, is expected to release early 2013.

Raj Kundra to act in his own film

Based on mixed martial arts, the film may star John Abraham

Prachi Kadam (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 23, 2012)

In June this year, we told you how Sriram Nene along with wife Madhuri Dixit is now ready to explore the realms of film production. Looks like Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra isn’t too far behind. In fact, Kundra, who launched a television series earlier this year, is ready with a script for his next project. Mirror has found out that the story is based loosely on the Hollywood hit Warrior. And the producers have also got a Hollywood writer on board for the project.

Incidentally, Kundra’s production house ESM already announced a film titled Dhiskiyoon earlier. However, it is only for this project that Kundra would be a hands on producer. “In the first film, except for the budgeting, I wasn’t involved much. For this project, I plan to take more interest in every aspect of filmmaking. This film will be based on MMA,” Kundra told Mirror.

This will also be Kundra’s first film appearance. “Sanjay Dutt and I will surely do a cameo as the chairman of the league. As for the lead roles, we are approaching John Abraham and Vidyut Jamval. For the female lead, we plan to cast a fresh face,” revealed Kundra.

The film is slated to go on floors in January 2013 and will hit the theatres by the end on the year.
