Pradhuman Singh who played Osama in Tere bin Laden talks about his initial apprehension when he had to do the role, how he feels about Osama’s death and other movies he will be part of

Priyanka Dasgupta | TNN (MUMBAI MIRROR.COM; May 03, 2011)

The joke was not on Osama.. but on the war on terror, says Pradhuman Singh, who played the fake Osama bin Laden in Tere Bin Laden. He says even though the film was banned in Pakistan, most people watched it online.

Having played the fake Osama in Tere Bin Laden, what’s your reaction to the news of his death?

The battle has been going on for years. It was a battle between one country and a man. There has to be one winner and one loser. Now, it’s certain that the US has won. But all said and done, no one can shove down our throat the views about one particular person. Nothing is in white and black. It’s all grey. I am no one to judge whether Osama bin Laden’s stance was right or not. I can only offer my congratulations to the US. Yet, I must all add that this whole war has been going on for far too long. It’s not really worth it. There has been too much of infighting going on in Afghanistan.

So, many other countries, including Iraq, have faced the brunt of it all. Were you ever apprehensive about playing the character Noora in the film?

Initially, when I had not read the script, I was a bit apprehensive. I was wondering if it would be a biographical role. After all, Osama has been one of the most radical people in More >

Crew members flee Reema Kagti’s temper?

Aamir Khan’s next film with Reema Kagti loses its members, thanks to the filmmaker’s explosive temper

Noyon Jyoti Parasara (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 26, 2011)

Aamir Khan’s next project with Reema Kagti seems to have hit a rocky patch. While directors had earlier quit the actor’s project half way (remember Taare Zameen Par?), this is the first time that the others are quitting because of the director.

The film that went on the floors less than two months ago is already short of five important crewmembers, thanks to Reema Kagti’s explosive temper.

According to sources from the unit, the director has lost five of her assistant directors so far. “Three first ADs and two second ADs have quit.

The first one to quit was a guy from the US who was working on the film as Reema’s first AD,” says a source from the team.

Even the lure of working on an Aamir Khan project seems to be failing to hold back the members tired of Reema’s behaviour.

Though this seems to be a big problem with assistant directors leaving the scene halfway, a source from the unit chose to defend Kagti, saying, “She is not a bad person but she is obstinate.”

Though Reema, who was busy with the shoot remained unavailable, the film’s publicist chose not to comment on the matter.

BOMBAY TIMES (April 16, 2011)

We never fought or argued and it never got bitter

Sweta Keswani talks to Roshni K Olivera about her relationship with Alexx and why things didn’t work out in their marriage

Sweta Keswani and Alexx O’Neil’s marriage may have ended, but the two continue to remain good friends. Here, the actress talks about how and why things didn’t work out in her marriage and about moving on…

IT WAS NOT MEANT TO BE… “We both married our best friend, which I thought was the best thing to do. Over time, however, we realised that we had different goals, desires and needs for the future. Furthermore, our professional commitments, my long hours on the sets in Mumbai and Alexx’s frequent film shooting outside kept us apart. And after having spent so much of our two-year marriage in different places, we found that we hadn’t created much of a married life together. Nevertheless, I have no regrets; we’ve had a wonderful few years together and so many amazing memories! While Alexx is a great guy and remains my close friend, I realised that I need someone different in my life. We never fought or argued and it never got bitter – which is simply unbelievable to most people! And I am completely at peace with the way things worked out, in fact, I’m extremely grateful to him and our relationship; they helped me to understand my own limitations and shortcomings — things that I can work on in the future. These years and our split have been an empowering More >

Kashmir film kicked off goalpost

Inshallah Football, a film on how the sport becomes a catalyst for youth in the Valley and suggests a solution to the Kashmir problem, has a limited reach due to its ‘adults only’ tag. Is Indian politics at work here?

Aseem Chhabra (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 17, 2011)

Towards the beginning of Ashvin Kumar’s remarkable documentary Inshallah Football, the film’s protagonist Basharat states his case and that becomes the basis of the film.

Basharat is an 18-year-old high school student in Srinagar, a star footballer who has a chance to go to Brazil to play in the minor leagues. But unfortunately, his passport application has been delayed for one obvious reason his father is a former Kashmiri militant, who travelled to Pakistan for training and was later arrested and tortured by the Indian security forces.

Basharat was only two years old when his father joined the militancy and he rightly feels that he is being unfairly punished for something he had no control over.

The passport application of the protagonist, an 18-year-old star footballer, is delayed as his father is a former militant

His father has since renounced the militancy and now runs a legitimate business in Srinagar. The film follows Basharat’s struggle to get a passport. He eventually succeeds with the assistance of the state’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Kangna goes missing with Gerard?

Hollywood actor Gerard Butler did not seem to get enough of Kangna Ranaut after they met on the sets of her film in the US. Is that why he whisked her off to a four-day holiday to an undisclosed location?

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 13, 2011)

The unit and crew of Vinay Sapru’s Happy New Year returned from Los Angeles with some juicy news and without their leading lady Kangna Ranaut, who they say, was away with Hollywood actor Gerard Butler at an undisclosed location.

While news of Kangna’s rendezvous with Butler is doing the rounds, what was not disclosed was Kangna’s impromptu holiday with Butler.

Butler is not new to Bollywood ladies, in fact he is known to get rather misty-eyed with them. After he was spotted partying with Priyanka Chopra at her Yari Road apartment, where he reportedly went down on his knees pleading with her to marry him, he said, “I don’t mind marrying an Indian girl…too bad Priyanka already has a boyfriend.”

At LA, after Butler met Kangna, sources from the unit say, that the two took this casual bonding to the next level. They did not just party after packup, but took off to an undisclosed place on the day the schedule for the film ended.

A source from the unit told Mumbai Mirror, “Kangna was with Butler at the airport. She was supposed to come back with us in the same flight. But she didn’t. Possibly, the two got into another flight. She did not tell anybody from the unit where she was headed.”

Actor approached for desi version of Survivor

Roshni K Olivera (BOMBAY TIMES; March 24, 2011) John Abraham might just be the next Bollywood star to make his TV debut. The actor has been approached to host the desi version of the popular reality show, Survivor. The show is likely to go on air in a couple of months and many TV actors have already been tapped to participate in it. While the talks with John are still on, there are two more names doing the rounds — Ajay Devgn and Arjun Rampal. “The channel’s considering these two stars as well, to host the show. It’s after all the biggest show for them,” says a source. Both Ajay and Arjun have made their foray into television, but only as judges (Ajay judged the show Rock and Roll Family with wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja and Arjun was a judge on Nach Baliye 4). So who will eventually host Survivor among the three? Well, with their ‘fit and fab’ image, all of them seem perfect for the job.

ABOUT SURVIVOR In this show, a group of people are marooned on an island. Apart from being voted out, often contestants get eliminated owing to medical conditions such as injury or infection as the show is physically very challenging. The last two or three survivors face a jury composed of the last seven, eight, or nine players voted out. That jury interrogates the final few and then votes for the winner of the game. The American version has been very successful. It’s considered the mother of More >

Somy Ali with whom Salman shares old passions, deep friendship and a common love for charitable causes, joins him for a ten-day holiday in Bangkok

Bharati Dubey and Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 16, 2011)

Salman Khan and the entire unit of his forthcoming film Ready returned home on Tuesday morning after a 40-day schedule in Bangkok. And with them came the big news:

There’s a new woman in the star’s life. Or rather, she has made a comeback in the star’s life.

Fed up going back and forth with Katrina, it seems Sallu is giving his old love a second chance. Somy Ali with whom he shares old passions and an abiding friendship joined the  star during the last leg of the shoot, much to the unitwallahs bemusement.

While the rest of the crew stayed at Hotel Sukumvit, Sallu and Somy stayed at the luxurious Hotel Landmark.

Ali, who is based in the United States, arrived in Bangkok end of February and stayed on till the star’s return to Mumbai.

“She and Salman spent a lot of time together after the day’s shoot would get over.

“All through her stay Salman was very protective of Somy. She did not come on the sets but he was with her all the time after the shoot.

Hip-Hop meets bhangra in Joker

By Subhash K. Jha, March 12, 2011 – 11:13 IST

Though Sonakshi Sinha would like to believe that she is as grown-up as the rest of the cast shooting on location in Chandigarh for Shirish Kunder’s Joker, the truth is, she is treated as the baby of the Joker family. And the unit pampers her no end. When they heard her get wistful about not having done any modern dancing so far, choreographer Farah Khan, who was in Chandigarh to shoot a pucca desi number, decided to pamper Sonakshi.

It was meant to be a hardcore desi number shot in the lush sarson fields of Chandigarh. But then, hip-hop came into it. How come?

Akshay Kumar’s song-and-dance with Sonakshi Sinha was shot in Chandigarh last week. In the middle of the song, a hip-hop section was introduced, much to Sonakshi’s delight, since this was her first attempt at something so desi ever since she started shooting for Dabangg.

Says a source, “Sonakshi was very keen on trying western steps. She was looking forward to grooving in Joker. But when the first song and dance in Joker turned out to be a desi item she was disappointed. Shirish and Farah then decided to add a hip-hop section.”

Farah Khan confirms the inclusion of hip-hop in the gaon ka gaana. “It’s a situation where Akshay Kumar has returned home in Punjab from the US. There’s a celebratory song and dance. It does have a very special hip-hop section.”

By Devansh Patel, February 28, 2011 – 13:30 IST

At 6 o’clock this morning, a million alarms went berserk in India that woke up the million Oscar enthusiasts, and their Monday blues came to an end as soon as they switched on their television to watch the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, Live. But on the flip side, what really opened their eyes was the moment they all had least predicted. At the Oscars, India’s hottest celebrity couple, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were seen looking bold and beautiful.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was wearing a brown gown designed by Armani and Abhishek was seen wearing the Oscar trademark black suit with a bow tie. India’s most well known face in Hollywood, Aishwarya quoted, “We were on our holiday in the U.S when we received an invitation to attend the Oscars too. Armani is a dear friend and I had to wear this dress designed by him.”

On asking who they found to be on their wish list of winners, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan quoted, “Colin and I are very good friends and we did a film together called The Last Legion. So I am predicting Colin Firth to be my favourite to win the Best Actor Oscar. We have seen the film and I loved it.”

Abhishek Bachchan adds an Indian touch too. He said, “My wife and I are representing India. And we are fully going to support A.R. Rahman with whom we both have worked in the past. I hope he wins the Oscars in the two category he is nominated this evening.”
