The R&B sensation will record another song for SRK and shoot a music video also featuring Kareena and King Khan

Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; October 4, 2010)

Shah Rukh Khan will host singing sensation Akon at Mannat in December. The singer will be in town then to record another song for SRK. Akon, who has been bowled over by SRK and also the concept of his film Ra.1, has gelled well with the composers and loves their groovy tracks.

The last time Akon was in town, he became good friends with SRK and Kareena. They had a great session talking about their different cultures and knowing each other. Akon had said that Mumbai gives him the feeling that he is at home having also done a hit show here. He was taken by surprise when Shah Rukh threw a party in his honour in Mumbai and many people turned up. He felt really special working for SRK and he took back this warm feeling with him to the US.

During the London shooting schedule of the movie, SRK and the production team decided that since the movie had someone like Akon, they should showcase him more. They felt doing another song with him would help. SRK approached him and Akon probably tweaked his schedule to accommodate his trip to India.

When contacted, SRK told BT, “Yes Akon is set to do another song for us. We are just working on it to finalise things. December might be the month. We are excited to have him in our film.”

Sonakshi’s pride goes after a fall

The ‘Dabangg’ girl was embarrassed after tripping on her gown at a fashion show

TNN (MUMBAI MIRROR.COM; September 28, 2010)

Sonakshi Sinha’s show-stopper act at a fashion show on Sunday at a Bangalore hotel reminded many of the song: ‘Show stopper, you’re, a, a jaw dropper’. For jaws did drop when Sonakshi had a fall at designer Gavin Miguel’s show.

The designer, best known for his gowns, gave the Dabangg girl a golden flowing one with intricate embroidery. Unlike most show stoppers who end the act, Sonakshi opened it. And soon after she appeared at the entry of the ramp, she stumbled after missing three steps.

Choreographer Alison Woodham says, “She was aware of the three steps as she watched the rehearsal in the afternoon soon after she arrived. She could have pulled up the gown while climbing down the stairs, which she didn’t. I think she tripped on the outfit.”

But another source from backstage, who refuses to be named, says it had nothing to do with the gown. “One must rehearse before the show. She was very upset after exiting and screamed at one of the organisers, saying, ‘Why didn’t you tell me there were three steps?’ It was embarrassing for everyone, including the designer. Since a showstopper isn’t a model, it’s imperative for her to rehearse,” the source adds.

Sridevi almost trips on ramp at Lakme Fashion Week

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, September 22, 2010 – 13:34 IST

Having celebrities walking the ramp for a designer is old news, but designer Neeta Lulla went with someone who isn’t from the league of Chopras, Kapoors or Kaifs. Instead, timeless beauty Sridevi represented Neeta Lulla’s collection to the T. It was the designer’s 25th anniversary and the collection was inspired by the repository of work done over the years in both pret and couture.

Since it’s been years since Sridevi walked the ramp or made such kind of an appearance in front of a gamut of celebrities she did face a few hiccups. The lady made a smashing entry looking but moving on almost tripped thrice while walking down the ramp. Sporting a silverish -grey body fitting gown, she looked splendid but the train of her dress wasn’t helping matters. Every time she would take a step further the skirt would gather under her feet making it impossible for her to walk on and almost tripping her. Such was the design of the outfit that even when Sridevi came to take a bow with the Neeta Lulla, the designer held on to Sridevi lest she trips again. Such kind of creativity can be fatal.

But the experience of walking at LFW was still something the yesteryear actress cherished.

Lulla’s show boasted of a number of known names right from Rani Mukherjee, Hema Malini, Tabu, Juhi Chawla, Ameesha patel and Yash Chopra. Actors Akshay Kumar, Rannvijay and Vipul Shah too came to the show in retro outfits to promote More >

Ranbir injures Priyanka

A bit too involved in enacting a running sequence for Anjaana Anjaani, Ranbir didn’t notice that Priyanka had fallen and hurt her head and leg very badly

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 09, 2010)

Ranbir Kapoor is living up to the title of his next film Anjaana Anjaani, but in an odd way. Clueless, that while shooting he was running hand in hand with Priyanka Chopra, who had long tripped, fallen and hurt herself, Ranbir continued acting.

Only later did he realise that Priyanka, who had stopped running with him a while ago, was actually lying mid-way on the ground with a bleeding leg and an angry look on her face, we presume.

Obviously, Ranbir was caught up, either with acting or something we’re not aware of. Otherwise, such things are unheard of in the industry. Sure enough, the actor was seen apologising profusely to Priyanka later.

Our source from the unit says, “Ranbir and Priyanka were shooting for a scene where they were trying to get away from a situation. Priyanka was wearing high heels and running. Ranbir got involved in the scene and with increased speed, started pulling her, when she  suddenly tripped and fell.

On turning around later, he saw that Priyanka had fallen down and her leg was bleeding. He obviously went out of his way to make her feel comfortable after that.”

Director Siddharth Anand too was witness to this incident and in his version there is an added staircase. He says, “They were running holding hands and there More >

Vidhu Vinod Chopra-new VVIP on the block?

Vinod Chopra’s entourage cordons off a major public road in Bandra to let the producer into a bylane

Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s trip to St Paul’s Road in Bandra caused a traffic jam during rush hour. At around 6pm  on January 18, his security guards blocked the entire road; barring all vehicles and pedestrians from using St Paul’s Road for about 10-12 minutes. Vidhu made a grand entry from the other side, which is a no entry and then drove into a bylane.

A reputed director, who happened to be there at the same time said, “Roads are usually blocked for politicians and that too by cops. Now, roads are being blocked for filmmakers as well. It was shocking. Some private security guards simply blocked the traffic from the other side of St Paul’s Road, which is a one way road. Ten minutes later, Vidhu Vinod Chopra drove along on the wrong side of the one way and only after that was the traffic allowed to ply.”

Didn’t the traffic police object? The director replied, “Normally there are traffic cops but on at day, there were none.”

Vidhu Vinod Chopra remained unavailable for comment. But we wonder, has he forgotten his Munnabhai Gandhigiri lesson?

Karan Johar worked for 48 hours to perfect My Name is Khan

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 10, 2009)

Karan Johar knows that first impression is the last impression. The first look of his much-awaited film My Name is Khan all set to hit the theatres on December 18 with the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar. As a result, Karan is having sleepless nights just to make sure that the first look creates the right buzz about the film.

Karan did not sleep starting Saturday morning to Monday morning as he was busy finalising the first look of My Name is Khan.

A source said, “My Name is Khan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, is one of Karan’s most ambitious film to date more so because it is a subject that he has never attempted to make so far. He also cancelled his trip to LA to finalise the film’s first look over the weekend. He reached office early on Saturday morning to start working on the edit and didn’t stop till Monday morning 7am. He must have barely taken an hour-long nap in those two days. SRK too joined him on Saturday night and they had a meeting about how they plan to go about promoting the film. SRK saw some portions of the first theatrical promo and then left the Dharma Productions office early on Sunday morning. However, Karan continued to work and only left on Monday morning after he was satisfied with the first look.”

Karan remained unavailable for comment. He probably was catching up on his sleep after More >

Katrina fights loneliness pangs

Katrina Kaif fights loneliness pangs by asking her mother to stay with her in Mumbai By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 03, 2009)

After a spate of hits, Katrina Kaif may be riding high on her career front but that is in no way a compensation for leading a lonely life without family in Mumbai. Considering that the Mumbai film industry can get awfully cold for an out-of-town girl and the constant work-related travel in recent times, Katrina had begun to feel the absence of a strong support system in Mumbai.

Living alone also took its toll on her health when last month the actress was diagnosed with jaundice and a low hemoglobin count.

A close friend of the actress said, “To be  alone in Mumbai where no one asks about your health seriously and neighbours don’t even know your name, is bad enough. But for a celebrity like Katrina it’s even worse. People around her presumed she wanted to be left alone when in fact she needed comfort and company during her illness.”

That’s when Katrina made up her mind to call her mother Suzanne Turquotte to Mumbai to be with her. “It wasn’t an overnight decision. She didn’t want to pull her mother away from her social work in Chennai, but being alone was getting to Katrina. Being successful is fine but unlike other actresses her age, she had no one to return home to,” added the friend.

Earlier this week, Katrina’s mom joined the actress in Mumbai. The change in her mood, attitude and lifestyle was almost immediate. She’s now More >
