Ishqiya opened fairly well in the 50-60% region. The collections at some stations of North India were better than the rest of the country. The reports of the film are also good and it remains to be seen how they translate into box office collections but chances are good it will emerge a success.

Rann opened to a poor response around 15-20%. Rann also has fairly good reports and collections could improve but it will need a huge jump if it is to make any impact at the box office as opening collections are just too low.

Veer has done good first week business of around 32.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The film has been aided hugely by Republic Day holiday after which collections dropped markedly. Due to the first five days the film has managed good first week shares. The 8th day has also seen a drop with multiplexes crashing and although single screens are not as bad as multiplexes they still show a noticeable drop. Veer is a hit in circuits like Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan but overall it is likely to emerge an Average/Above Average fair.

3 Idiots adds another 10.50 crore nett to take its five week total to around 192 crore nett. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER

Shahid-Anushka has three kisses in Parmeet’s film?

Anushka Sharma gets to kiss Shahid Kapoor thrice in their film together. Funnily, the former was not jumping for joy at the prospect By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 20, 2010)

Apparently Anushka Sharma has locked lips with Shahid Kapoor not once, but thrice for her forthcoming YRF film, directed by actor-turned-director Parmeet Sethi. While most girls would happily kiss the young star, she wasn’t turning cartwheels at the idea. A source says, “The kisses are not the brush-of-the-lips type. They are full-on smooches.”

Reportedly, Anushka shared great chemistry with Shahid when they were shooting for this film in the States. They had gelled very well and seemed to be enjoying each other’s company very much. And we don’t blame YRF or Parmeet Sethi if they decided on the three smooches because they wanted to exploit that chemistry and have it translated on screen as well.

But Anushka was not comfortable. “Parmeet had to do a lot of cajoling. Finally, he managed to convince her,” our source said.

What about Shahid? Was he okay with kissing Anushka? “Oh, he had no problem,” our source revealed.

As on date, the entire shooting of the film has been completed. The film is in the editing stages. Let’s hope that all the three smooches go unedited in the final print.

MAKING MUSIC: Aadesh Shrivastava at Abbey Road Studios and (inset) Amitabh Bachchan …so Aadesh Shrivastava records his voice against Orchestra’s music at Abbey Road SUBHASH K JHA Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; December 23, 2009) He was meant to be at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in Westminster, London, where the Beatles recorded in 1969… but Paa Bachchan’s crazy schedules prevented him from joining Aadesh Shrivastava for a historic recording of the composer’s peace album there with the internationally saluted London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO). Poor Aadesh, he had to rise to the challenge of synchronising his starsinger Bachchan’s voice with the 68-piece LPO when the two parties were unable to record together. “I had to bring together the two giants of the entertainment business in different parts of the world. It was an honour that I’d have liked Amitji to have shared with me in London. I’m the first Indian musician to record with the LPO at Abbey Road Studios. They agreed to be part of my peace album the minute I mentioned the Bachchan name,” said the Bollywood composer. Now Aadesh intends to translate the Hindi words that the Big B has sung into English. “It’s a peace song and I want Amitji’s contribution to reach a global audience,” said Aadesh. Bachchan’s track Dhara Gagan Chahe written by Sameer Anjaan had to be mixed and dubbed in Mumbai. The legendary actor, naturally, regretted not being able to record it at Abbey Road Studios. “It’s unfortunate I More >
