Would love to work with Farah again-Akshay Kumar
0By Subhash K. Jha, January 24, 2011 – 12:16 IST
Before another film with Farah, Akshay is being directed by Farah’s husband Shirish Kunder. “Why just her husband? I’m doing a second film with her brother Sajid Khan and a second film with Shirish. Shirish and I are producing his Joker. But it has nothing to do with the circus.”
Akshay co-stars with Sonakshi Sinha in Joker. “I saw her in Dabangg. It didn’t look like her first film. She was so confident and complemented Salman perfectly. I hope we look as good together.”
Defending TMK Akshay says, “No matter what some people have to say the fact is, our film had the biggest opening of the year along with Dabangg and Golmaal 3. Audiences go to a Farah Khan film to see a Manmohan Desai kind of full-on masala entertainment. To that extent, she hasn’t disappointed. I was doing what Austin Powers does in the Hollywood slapsticks. People seem to love that.”
However, Akshay admits the collections dropped from Monday. “I’m happy that TMK took a great 3-day opening. But I’d have been happier if there wasn’t a drop in the collections on Monday. Only 8-9 other films got such an overwhelming opening this year. That I featured in two such openers this year – Housefull and TMK – is a matter of great happiness.”
Akshay defends Tees Maar Khan. “I don’t regret doing anything. I can’t see the weaknesses in TMK. I respect what Farah does in her cinema. .Why are the trade pundits comparing the collections of TMK with 3 Idiots and More >
Katrina forgets mentioning TMK on receiving award for the film
0By Subhash K. Jha, January 10, 2011 – 11:24 IST
Maybe it was the excitement of winning her first award. But in her thank-you speech on Thursday night after winning an award for Best Actor Popular Choice (whatever that means!) for her performances in Raajneeti and Tees Maar Khan at a recent award function, Katrina completely forgot to make any mention of Farah Khan.
Says a source close to Katrina, “Forget Farah. Katrina didn’t make any mention of Tees Maar Khan (TMK) at all! Though the award was for her two performances in Raajneeti and TMK she only went on and on about Prakash Jha and Raajneeti. Farah who was sitting in the audience and had won an award for ‘Munni Badnaam‘ just looked on without any expression.”
According to a close friend of Katrina it was a genuine oversight. “In all the hustle bustle of the announcement Katrina only heard Raajneeti. She genuinely didn’t know she had received the award for TMK also. When she got off the stage and realized her faux pas Katrina didn’t know where to look. She immediately SMS-ed Farah to apologize.”
A more plausible explanation is provided by another friend of the actress, “She had so prepared herself mentally to treat Raajneeti has her possible passport to recognition, it never struck her that she could get awarded for another performance. TMK just didn’t register.”
While Katrina was going blue in the face offering explanations, Farah Khan seemed perfectly nonchalant about Katrina’s slip-up.

Akshay slams David Dhawan for dissing Tees Maar Khan?
0At Anil Kapoor’s party David Dhawan bitched out TMK. Akki called him up and gave him a piece of his mind. Incidentally David’s son is acting with him
Sonal Chawla and Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 31, 2010)
Anil Kapoor will not forget his birthday party for many years to come.
While there was a hiccup with Salman Khan and a fan getting slapped below his residence, inside there was an occasion to celebrate with Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan bonding warmly after ages.
However the after-affects of the party are still being felt. Apparently David Dhawan made some uncharitable comments about Akshay Kumar’s recently released film Tees Maar Khan and Akshay got wind of the news. But a livid phone call by Akshay did make David apologise.
Our source tells us, “David Dhawan entered the party with his two thumbs down saying ‘Tees Maar Khan pit gayee’. He announced that the reports of the film were not encouraging and that it was a bad film.
The film, which was to be released the next day, was said to be one of the hottest films of this year and the news that the film is not up to the mark has already spread since there were many trials of the film.
However one of the guests at the party told him that he should not say these things considering that Akshay Kumar is also the lead actor of his son Rohit’s film, Desi Boys.
Akshay Kumar got wind of all these facts and he called David to give him a piece of his mind. David agreed that he had said all this More >
Patiala House is not a comedy-Nikhil Advani
0By Subhash K. Jha, December 30, 2010 – 11:22 IST
Nikhil Advani had a major dispute with the rest of his team over the content of the first trailer of Patiala House. The dispute caused a critical delay in getting the trailer ready to be attached to Tees Maar Khan (TMK), as per plan. Consequently, the trailer couldn’t make it to all the theatres in Mumbai.
When Nikhil Advani visited a suburban theatre to watch TMK on Friday, it wasn’t only because he wanted to check out his own film’s hero’s latest offering. Nikhil wanted to see the first trailer of his own film Patiala House that was attached to TMK.
To his shock the trailer of Patiala House was missing from the film since it couldn’t be attached in time to all the prints of TMK.
Laughs Nikhil joylessly, “All the prints of the trailers for the Dolby theatres couldn’t be ready in time. So only about 70 percent of the Dolby theatres could show the trailer of Patiala House with Tees Maar Khan. Unfortunately, I landed up in one of the theatres that didn’t have my trailer attached to the film. Can you imagine? The world saw it. I couldn’t.”
Was it a last-minute decision to peg the Patiala House trailer to TMK?
Explains Nikhil, “No no. We had decided long ago to attach our first trailer to Tees Maar Khan. Akshay is a co-producer on both projects. Since Patiala is not a comedy we decided we’d wait for the release of TMK before starting the campaign.”
Then Nikhil blurts out, “All the Dolby prints of the trailer couldn’t be More >
2010: The year of SALMAN
0The actor should be a happy and proud man on his birthday, today. But what about the others?
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; December 27, 2010)
As Salman Khan brings in his 45th birthday today, he has enough reason to yell from the rooftop of Galaxy Apartments. The year clearly belongs to him. His detractors may argue that he doesn’t have Aamir Khan’s acting skills or Shah Rukh Khan’s charisma. However, the youngest of the Khan-triumvirate has proved that he has superstar power in abundance.
Not only did he hit a purple patch with Dabangg, the highest grosser of 2010, he also won hearts with his role as the anchor of Big Boss Season 4. His Being Human work also won him more brownie points than all of Bollywood’s muscle men combined.
Trade consultant Amod Mehra says, “This year will see a total of 237 Hindi movies (including dubbed ones) release till December 31. And, the only two genuine super hits are Dabangg and Golmaal 3. Tees Maar Khan (TMK) is just four days old, so I’m not even including its figures in this analysis. But, honestly, this year if you ask me Khaano mein Khan kaun hai, I would reply Salman Khan. He did have a flop in Veer but he made up lost ground with Dabangg in a major way. He has left his contemporaries gasping for breath because right now he has a superb lead.’’ Analysing the year so far, trade sources say that besides the fact that Salman and Ajay Devgn (Golmaal 3, Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai) had golden More >
Tees Maar Khan to take on pirates
0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, December 22, 2010 – 13:51 IST
Tees Maar Khan (TMK), 2010′s much awaited movie, is all set to take on movie pirates just before its release. Bollywood wants to end the year on a good note and all hopes are on Farah Khan’s next release Tees Maar Khan. This is also the reason why the producers are putting immense pressure on the pirates this week.
Alliance Against Copyright Theft (AACT) has rendered its full support to the producers of the film. Anybody seen in possession of a TMK pirated CD/DVD will be booked under the Indian Copyright Act, 1957. AACT’s enforcement consultants have planned raids at various locations across India to seize pirated goods like inlay cards, DVD writers and other equipment.
Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures who are also the producers of the movie says, “The entire team of TMK is working hard to curb piracy. We are working closely with the authorities to intercept attempts to copy or distribute pirated versions of the movie. It is important for our industry to collaborate with AACT against piracy. We will continue putting pressure on the pirates till the release and post release as well.”
Further Farah adds, “In the last three years the biggest hits have released on Christmas, and with TMK we are confident of continuing the trend. Over the last month we have been appealing to the audiences to refrain from buying pirated copies of the movie. Our enforcement team is keeping a More >
Akshaye’s character in TMK does a spoof on SRK?

Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; November 30, 2010)
BT would not like to hazard a guess on the relationship status between Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan, but the buzz in Bollywood is that the choreographer-director has mercilessly spoofed the Bollywood Badshah in her forthcoming film Tees Maar Khan. It is said that Akshaye Khanna’s role in the film is completely modelled on SRK. And the references to the superstar are as bold and direct as they can be. Trade pundits don’t find this unusual. They say the film was written by Farah’s husband Shirish Kunder, who doesn’t see eye-to-eye with SRK, and naturally — the script-writer would have lampooned the Bollywood Badshah given the opportunity. So, Shirish’s script has Akshaye suffering from a terrible back ache for which he has to constantly go to London for treatment. And, there’s Akshaye in his opening shot talking about showing off his six-pack and going topless for a scene, which will remind viewers of SRK’s Dard-e-Disco number in Om Shanti Om. Also, there’s an international filmmaker coincidentally named Danny who comes to meet Akshaye and is kept waiting for six hours before Akshaye declines his film offer. Anil Kapoor, who plays a cameo in TMK, then replaces Akshaye in this international film that wins an Oscar and Akshaye is shown regretting his decision. Which is really what happened when Danny Boyle approached SRK for Slumdog Millionaire with the role that Anil More >
No joke, Akki to romance Sonakshi!

Bollywood’s Khiladi No.1 has another ace up his sleeve
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; November 22, 2010)
Akshay Kumar is getting into the fourth gear of his promotions for Tees Maar Khan that is releasing worldwide on December 24. Simultaneously his banner Hari Om Productions, that has given us entertainers like Singh is Kinng, De Dana Dan, Khatta Meetha, Waqt — A Race against Time, and Farah Khan’s Three is Company have signed Bollywood’s youngest girl Sonakshi Sinha for Shirish Kunder’s Joker.
Shirish says, “Joker will be India’s first 3-D magnum opus. And the reason why I’ve signed Sonakshi is because she is ideally suited for the role. Also, Akshay has acted with almost every heroine on the scene. Sonakshi and he are a fresh pair; the casting is already creating ripples.’’ Says the Khiladi himself, “Joker is not a super-hero film. It is not about me wearing some clown’s clothes or being part of a circus. Why it is called Joker is something you’ll have to wait to know. However, I can tell you, it is going to be one of the most technically advanced movies made in India. Children and adults are going to love it. The story moves from a village to NASA and well after that there’s some suspense involved.’’
Even as he gears up to romance the Dabangg hottie, Akshay says that 2011 will be as action packed as any other year in his career. Says he, “I have Patiala House, Thank You, Joker, my international film — Rob Lowe’s Break-Away More >
Sonam replaces Katz in Thank You
0SUBHASH K JHA Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; February 4, 2010)
We know Katrina Kaif is the main lead in Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan and she’s no longer doing Anees Bazmi’s Thank You. But not many know that that Sonam Kapoor had also been approached for Tees Maar Khan. Since Farah and Anil Kapoor go back a long way, it seemed logical for Sonam to step into Farah’s domain, especially since Sonam and Akshay have been keen to work together. For reasons best known to them, Farah and Sonam couldn’t come together for TMK. But there’s buzz that Sonam and Akshay are likely to share screen space in Anees Bazmi’s light-hearted love story Thank You.
Apparently, after Katrina politely declined the offer, Anees approached Anil for Sonam’s dates.
Says Anees guardedly, “Yes, after Katrina didn’t work out, we’ve approached Sonam. Her father and I have not only worked in No Entry and No Problem, we’re close friends and Sonam is almost like family.”
Anees decided on Sonam after watching her in Delhi 6. “She’s really got what it takes. My film needs a beautiful delicate girl who’s strong from inside. Sonam fits the bill. And Akshay will pair very well with her on screen.”
