THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has set new benchmarks for Hollywood releases even though collections started dipping from Tuesday onwards especially for the dubbed versions of the film.

The film has grossed around 41 crore nett over the first week which is by far the highest opening week total for a Hollywood release beating the 27 crore nett figure of 2012.

The 41 crore nett figure is more than the lifetime business of most Hindi releases of 2012. Only 6-7 Hindi releases have managed to do more than 41 crore nett lifetime business in 2012.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has taken the potential for Hollywood films to another level and big Hollywood releases are likely to get even wider releases and now they are the best bet after a big budget Hindi film is a big Hollywood release. The biggest plus for Hollywood releases like THE AVENGERS and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is they have acceptance in the interiors which films like TERI MERI KAHAANI, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR, FERRARI KI SAWAARI etc will never get.

Meawhile,THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN had a huge drop in collections on its eighth day as the film grossed around 1.50 crore nett. The drop from day one is around 82%. The film, however, shall cross the 50-crore-mark at the box office.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN will emerge the third highest grosser from Hollywood in terms of nett collections after 2012 (2009) and AVATAR (2009) with THE AVENGERS (2012) and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 (2011) in fourth and fifth place More >

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN recorded a huge 27.50 crore nett weekend beating all the records of Hollywood films released in India. The records were smashed by such margins that the weekend business of the film was higher than what any other Hollywood film has collected in the first week.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is probably the only real big success in regional languages since 2012 released in 2009. The other Hollywood releases that have done well since have mainly done well in English. The film has chances to be the highest grossing Hollywood film ever in India. It is almost certain to be amongst the top two. Break-up: Friday 8.50 crore Saturday 9 crore Sunday 10 crore ————————— TERI MERI KAHAANI crashed completely in Weekend 2. The film collected Rs Rs 3 crore in Weekend 2, taking the 10-day total to approx Rs 26 crore nett. Ideally, this is actually the figure a film like TERI MERI KAHAANI should have accumulated in its first three days. It’s lifetime business will remain lower than MAUSAM, Shahid Kapoor’s last release before TERI MERI KAHAANI. Flop. ————————— GANGS OF WASSEYPUR maintained very well, despite the ‘Spider-Man’ wave. It collected 4.25 crore in Weekend 2, taking the 10-day total to approx Rs 21.95 crore nett. —————————

MAXIMUM had a dull weekend as it failed to open well and then failed to grow over the weekend. The film grossed around 1.50 crore nett over its first weekend.

The film grossed 35 lakhs nett on Friday, 50 lakhs nett on Saturday and 65 lakhs nett on More >

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN shattered all Hollywood film box office records in India by a distance. The film has put up huge numbers in all its versions be it English, Hindi, Tamil or Telugu.

The first day collections were 8.53 crore nett approx and the previous record for Hollywood films in India stood at just over 5 crore nett. The film has hence smashed the previous record by a massive 70%.

The film may not show huge growth as opening is so strong and Hollywood films tend to grow less over the weekend but still a 25 crore nett weekend is almost a certainty.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has aslo beaten the opening of all Hindi releases of 2012 apart from AGNEEPATH, ROWDY RATHORE, HOUSEFULL 2 and AGENT VINOD

MUMBAI MIRROR (May 11, 2012)

For Spiderman fans in India, who weren’t too happy with their superhero being left out of the Avengers party, here’s some good news. Before the world gets to see The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3, 2012, the film will hit the Indian theatres on June 29. Thanks to Ajay Devgn. Since the makers wanted an uninterrupted run of a few days before Devgn’s Bol Bachchan hits the screen, they decided to push ahead the release of their superhero flick.

When contacted, the spokesperson of Sony Pictures India confirmed the story and said, “29th June is a Friday and that works better for us. Also, it is better for audiences and exhibitors to focus on one big movie at a time. Bol Bachchan is also one of the reasons to reschedule the release.”
