As if playing a deaf and mute person was not enough, Ranbir surprised many by his rather unusual wardrobe in Anurag Basu’s Barfi. Recently, Ranbir’s old man avtar in a television commercial that was said to be one of his various looks in the film, created a lot of buzz as well. And now, Mirror brings you the look that would perhaps make Ranbir the next best choice for the brand ambassador of Bengal after Shah Rukh Khan. A source from the sets of the film shared a picture of Ranbir dressed as a traditional Bengali groom – complete with dhoti, kurta and the topor.

When contacted, director Anurag Basu revealed that Ranbir’s look was for a swayamvar sequence. “No, I am kidding,” said the filmmaker, thankfully and added, “This is a fun wedding sequence. But I can’t reveal what is happening here. All I can say is that it’s a Bengali wedding and I enjoyed making Ranbir enact the role of a young Bengali man.”

Interestingly, last time we saw an A-list star dressed in traditional Bengali regalia was in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. And the actor, Shah Rukh is the brand ambassador for the state. Recently, in Vicky Donor, lead actor Ayushman Khurrana got married Bengali style on screen. But Ranbir is ready to go a step further.

Veena Malik not permitted to shoot in India-CINTAA

Veena Malik cannot shoot in India, the Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) has said. Its chairperson, Raza Murad, was quoted in reports as saying, “She (Veena) is here on a business visa, which means she cannot earn a living in India. A business visa is valid for 45 days and with triple entry permission. To my knowledge, she isn’t supposed to go outside the city where her visa is applicable. We don’t know how she’s been shooting (for Swayamvar) in Agra. We have not given her work permit.”

However, Veena says, “Whenever I come to India, I make sure I go to the High Commission and provide important visa papers. And my passport explicitly mentions that I am an actress and come to India only for work. Also, my visa states that I can make a commercial presence anywhere, hence I can earn a living in India. As far as my visit to Agra goes, when I move from one city to the other, I make sure I inform the cops. And like everybody, I also pay taxes. So, those who have been saying I didn’t have the permission to shoot in Agra, are mistaken. I did the shoot only when I was given the approved visa.”

She further added, “I haven’t made an official statement about the show yet, aur dekhiye bawaal khadaa ho gaya” she says.

If a TV serial is going through a lull, what does the production house do to give it a boost? Well, insert a marriage track, a sure shot way to boost Television Rating Points (TRPs). It’s been the practice since the past two years and it continues to work; in fact now, even more than ever before.

Pavitra Rishta zoomed up to the number one spot as soon as Manav and Archana tied the knot. After ending her relationship with Elesh Parujanwala, Rakhi Sawant’s dreams of marrying an eligible bachelor on national television came crashing down. The controversy queen is now looking at a fresh start with another season of the same reality show.

According to a source from the TV channel on which the earlier seasons were aired, Rakhi is in talks with the channel officials to start preparing for her ‘marriage’. “Rakhi Sawant is now asking the channel to zero-in on some rich and decent guys.

She has asked them to verify each person in detail and also said that she will take personal interest in checking on all the prospective candidates, so nobody can blame the channel later,” says the source.

Apparently, there will be no limits in choosing a groom this time, including that of age. It doesn’t matter to Rakhi how old her groom is.

The actress has apparently asked the channel officials to inform all contestants about her past to avoid problems in the future. Rakhi says, “I want to again do my swayamvar because I want to get married. I want someone rich who can accept all my secrets. I have always been betrayed by people but now I do not want these things repeated. And I think I am going to get him this time because I believe God has made someone special for me. I want someone who loves me, and not my fame or money.”

It was Thursday evening, Saumasri Ganguly, known to the world as Dimpy Mahajan, was pleading on the phone. The familiar and assuring voice of her mother was all she needed to break down. “I am all alone here ma, even baba (father) is not supporting me.”

By Thursday evening it was obvious, a battered, bruised Dimpy was fighting a lonely battle.

Indeed, Rahul Mahajan’s metrosexual-but-oh-so-sensitive attitude towards Dimpy Ganguly’s middleclass-bordering-on-bovine simplicity won a lot of hearts but the truth had to surface. Seems like Rahul and Dimpy’s national marriage is troubled already. Else, why is Rahul pursuing his ex-girlfriend Payal Rohatgi?

Apparently, Rahul has been calling Payal incessantly at odd hours for over a month now. He has also been sending her text messages. A source says, “He (Rahul) is indeed pursuing her (Payal), texting her that he’d like to meet her. It seems he can’t forget her.”

Has Vivek Oberoi been signed for Season 3 of ‘Swayamvar’, the reality show at a TV channel that had earlier roped in Rakhi Sawant and Rahul Mahajan for Season 1 and Season 2 respectively?

That’s the buzz going around the B-town for the week gone by. While ‘sources’ (?) have claimed that Vivek is a hot contender for the show, considering his single status and popularity amongst women, the fact is something entirely different. The actor, who has seen a new lease to his professional career post Prince, is in no mood to tie the knot in near future, least of all on a reality show.

“This is as ridiculous as it gets”, fumes Vivek’s publicist, “There is no truth to the entire story and is imaginative as it gets. Earlier there were names like Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni spoken around. Then there were some other lesser names also that came in. Now all of a sudden Vivek’s name has cropped up. It isn’t even funny to be laughed away.”

Rakhi, Abhishek friends again

// // // Item girl Rakhi Sawant and ex-boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi have buried the hatchet. The two are paired opposite each other in the dance show Zara Nachke Dikha. The ice broke when they shot together for a dance sequence on Sunday.

A source present on the sets said, “They danced together after which Rakhi said that Abhishek is the best partner she has ever had.” Incidentally, they were the finalists in Nach Baliye but they eventually lost to Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh.

After a bitter break-up two years ago, Rakhi and Abhishek were not on talking terms. They recently met again for this show after two years during which Rakhi also did a swayamvar show.
