We get you a sneak peek of the actor sporting a dhoti and a ‘topor’ for his first-ever screen nuptials in Barfi

As if playing a deaf and mute person was not enough, Ranbir surprised many by his rather unusual wardrobe in Anurag Basu’s Barfi. Recently, Ranbir’s old man avtar in a television commercial that was said to be one of his various looks in the film, created a lot of buzz as well. And now, Mirror brings you the look that would perhaps make Ranbir the next best choice for the brand ambassador of Bengal after Shah Rukh Khan. A source from the sets of the film shared a picture of Ranbir dressed as a traditional Bengali groom – complete with dhoti, kurta and the topor.
When contacted, director Anurag Basu revealed that Ranbir’s look was for a swayamvar sequence. “No, I am kidding,” said the filmmaker, thankfully and added, “This is a fun wedding sequence. But I can’t reveal what is happening here. All I can say is that it’s a Bengali wedding and I enjoyed making Ranbir enact the role of a young Bengali man.”
Interestingly, last time we saw an A-list star dressed in traditional Bengali regalia was in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. And the actor, Shah Rukh is the brand ambassador for the state. Recently, in Vicky Donor, lead actor Ayushman Khurrana got married Bengali style on screen. But Ranbir is ready to go a step further.
Interestingly, this is the first time Ranbir will get married in a film. An eyewitness from the sets More >
Divya Pal (BOMBAY TIMES; November 21, 2011)Veena Malik cannot shoot in India, the Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) has said. Its chairperson, Raza Murad, was quoted in reports as saying, “She (Veena) is here on a business visa, which means she cannot earn a living in India. A business visa is valid for 45 days and with triple entry permission. To my knowledge, she isn’t supposed to go outside the city where her visa is applicable. We don’t know how she’s been shooting (for Swayamvar) in Agra. We have not given her work permit.”
However, Veena says, “Whenever I come to India, I make sure I go to the High Commission and provide important visa papers. And my passport explicitly mentions that I am an actress and come to India only for work. Also, my visa states that I can make a commercial presence anywhere, hence I can earn a living in India. As far as my visit to Agra goes, when I move from one city to the other, I make sure I inform the cops. And like everybody, I also pay taxes. So, those who have been saying I didn’t have the permission to shoot in Agra, are mistaken. I did the shoot only when I was given the approved visa.”
She further added, “I haven’t made an official statement about the show yet, aur dekhiye bawaal khadaa ho gaya” she says.
Lots! That’s exactly why this institution is exploited to the fullest on TV. And now there’s going to be a three-crore shaadi on a reality show
Roshni K Olivera | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; February 17, 2011)
If a TV serial is going through a lull, what does the production house do to give it a boost? Well, insert a marriage track, a sure shot way to boost Television Rating Points (TRPs). It’s been the practice since the past two years and it continues to work; in fact now, even more than ever before.
Pavitra Rishta zoomed up to the number one spot as soon as Manav and Archana tied the knot. Chaand Chupa Badal Mein, Pratha, Phulwa, Geet and Saathiya too had dramatic wedding sequences and there was Gulaal, where the protagonist married her kid devar (what could be more dramatic than that?) There are more marriages…
Sanskar Lakshmi and Tere Liye are all ready with band, baaja and baraat. Serial-makers don’t mind spending on their wedding tracks because they believe it’s worth it. As producer-director Rajan Shahi, who’s had lavish weddings in his serials like Bidaai and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, says, “Marriage always sells on TV. People connect with the festivity and emotions involved.” Serials apart, reality shows too continue to feed audiences the shaadi ka laddoo, and the stakes here are only getting higher. Teen Crore Ki Shaadi is an upcoming reality show, where a real life couple planning to tie the knot will be chosen and More >

After ending her relationship with Elesh Parujanwala, Rakhi Sawant’s dreams of marrying an eligible bachelor on national television came crashing down. The controversy queen is now looking at a fresh start with another season of the same reality show.
According to a source from the TV channel on which the earlier seasons were aired, Rakhi is in talks with the channel officials to start preparing for her ‘marriage’. “Rakhi Sawant is now asking the channel to zero-in on some rich and decent guys.
She has asked them to verify each person in detail and also said that she will take personal interest in checking on all the prospective candidates, so nobody can blame the channel later,” says the source.
Apparently, there will be no limits in choosing a groom this time, including that of age. It doesn’t matter to Rakhi how old her groom is.
The actress has apparently asked the channel officials to inform all contestants about her past to avoid problems in the future. Rakhi says, “I want to again do my swayamvar because I want to get married. I want someone rich who can accept all my secrets. I have always been betrayed by people but now I do not want these things repeated. And I think I am going to get him this time because I believe God has made someone special for me. I want someone who loves me, and not my fame or money.”
Wait, didn’t she say she wanted someone rich?

• Are you surprised that Rahul’s marriage has hit the rocks so soon?
Knowing Rahul, I am not surprised. He loves to change partners. For him, swayamvar was a gimmick. He offered me big money to participate in the show (pauses).
• Go on… Rahul has been harassing me since the past two months. He has been sending me very odd messages at odd hours. Initially, I ignored his calls and messages, but eventually, I told him to lay off. But he continued.
• What exactly has he been telling you?
He said, ‘I am sorry. We should work out things between us again.’ It all smacked of desperation. But Rahul is not a man of his word.
• How long were you in a relationship with him?
Eight months. I was very serious about him and made a fool of myself.
• Is Rahul aggressive?
Men have that in them if they are under the influence of something.
• Drinks? Drugs?
No comments. Don’t drag me there.
• What do you have to say about the company he keeps?
He is surrounded by people who don’t advise him well.
• You haven’t answered my question. Is Rahul aggressive?
Yes, he is aggressive if and when he loses it.
• How often does he lose it?
(Laughs) I didn’t count. But if he loses it, he is vindictive too.
• Did he hit you?
Yes. It happened just before we went for Bigg Boss 3. I was late by only More >
Harassed by hubby, distressed by dad
Lekha Menon Yogesh Sadhwani and Jayatri Nag (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 31, 2010) Dimpy Mahajan addresses the media a day after Mumbai Mirror broke the story that she had been beaten regularly by her husband Rahul Mahajan
It was Thursday evening, Saumasri Ganguly, known to the world as Dimpy Mahajan, was pleading on the phone. The familiar and assuring voice of her mother was all she needed to break down. “I am all alone here ma, even baba (father) is not supporting me.”
By Thursday evening it was obvious, a battered, bruised Dimpy was fighting a lonely battle.
A family of extremely modest means, the Gangulys had played their parts during her closely followed reality TV marriage. They had taken a leap of faith once, but seemed to fight shy of doing it again.
They wanted her to go back to Rahul Mahajan, the man they believed truly, madly, deeply, loved her.Dimpy showing bruises on her leg after Mahajan hit her on Wednesday night, forcing her to walk out of their house in Worli
A man, who could afford her the life and the luxuries they had always wished for their daughter. “Or else why would Rahul send her business class tickets to return to Mumbai every time she came here for her exams?” questioned Dimpy’s concerned uncle, who lives in the same house as her family in north Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old was visibly in pain. The bruises on her thighs, hands and forehead were raw, More >
Newly-wed Rahul is harassing Payal Rohatgi with too many tinkles, she alleges
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 28, 2010)
Indeed, Rahul Mahajan’s metrosexual-but-oh-so-sensitive attitude towards Dimpy Ganguly’s middleclass-bordering-on-bovine simplicity won a lot of hearts but the truth had to surface. Seems like Rahul and Dimpy’s national marriage is troubled already. Else, why is Rahul pursuing his ex-girlfriend Payal Rohatgi?
Apparently, Rahul has been calling Payal incessantly at odd hours for over a month now. He has also been sending her text messages. A source says, “He (Rahul) is indeed pursuing her (Payal), texting her that he’d like to meet her. It seems he can’t forget her.”Payal Rohatgi
That Rahul had even asked Payal to be a part of Swayamvar cannot be forgotten. At the time however Payal refused Rahul’s offer and told the media, “Please! He is a married man and I am not in touch with him. We used to be friends but that was a long time ago. He also offered to pay me Rs 1 crore to be a part of it. You see, he wanted a friend around. But I was used enough in Bigg Boss 2 to know better.”
Convoluted… yes. But Payal is not willing to take Rahul’s advances lightly anymore. She is not amused, the source adds, “Payal is not liking it at all. She is quite surprised by the number of messages she has received from him in the past few days.
She has categorically told Rahul to stop connecting with her. But he is More >

Has Vivek Oberoi been signed for Season 3 of ‘Swayamvar’, the reality show at a TV channel that had earlier roped in Rakhi Sawant and Rahul Mahajan for Season 1 and Season 2 respectively?
That’s the buzz going around the B-town for the week gone by. While ‘sources’ (?) have claimed that Vivek is a hot contender for the show, considering his single status and popularity amongst women, the fact is something entirely different. The actor, who has seen a new lease to his professional career post Prince, is in no mood to tie the knot in near future, least of all on a reality show.
“This is as ridiculous as it gets”, fumes Vivek’s publicist, “There is no truth to the entire story and is imaginative as it gets. Earlier there were names like Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni spoken around. Then there were some other lesser names also that came in. Now all of a sudden Vivek’s name has cropped up. It isn’t even funny to be laughed away.”
A ‘news’ like this comes at the time when Vivek is looking forward to his upcoming assignment like Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra, Part I of which is aiming for a September release. After that, there is also a Mani Ratnam film which is pretty much on the anvil.
No wonder, conspiracy theories are being discussed in hush-hush tone. Last 12 months had seen an upswing in Vivek’s career with first Kurbaan and then Prince lighting up the scene for him. Just when the actor had got through More >

// // // Item girl Rakhi Sawant and ex-boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi have buried the hatchet. The two are paired opposite each other in the dance show Zara Nachke Dikha. The ice broke when they shot together for a dance sequence on Sunday.
A source present on the sets said, “They danced together after which Rakhi said that Abhishek is the best partner she has ever had.” Incidentally, they were the finalists in Nach Baliye but they eventually lost to Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh.Rakhi Sawant and Abhishek Awasthi
After a bitter break-up two years ago, Rakhi and Abhishek were not on talking terms. They recently met again for this show after two years during which Rakhi also did a swayamvar show.
Abhishek’s mother became quite emotional after watching her son dancing with Rakhi. The source added, “Abhishek’s mother, who was present in the audience, said that Rakhi always was and will continue to be like her daughter.
She said she has left it to fate to decide whether the former couple will reunite, but she definitely wants them to be together. An emotional Rakhi apologised for hurting her. Eventually, Rakhi and Abhishek too forgave each other.”
A rather subdued Rakhi said, “Yes, we have decided to let bygones be bygones. We don’t want any animosity between us as we are working together. It doesn’t mean that we are dating, but we are definitely friends again.”
