Naseeruddin Shah on sharing screen space with his son Vivaan and more…
Nirmala Govindarajan (BOMBAY TIMES; February 25, 2011)
Working with Vivaan in 7 Khoon Maaf… We are never on-screen together. Vivaan doesn’t figure in my episode; he’s the narrator of the story. But I’m happy Vivaan got this opportunity. I admire Vishal Bhardwaj as a filmmaker — he’s got his head screwed on right and decided to leave Vivaan to his own devices.
Acting isn’t always in the genes… There are great actors whose parents are not actors. Acting is about how you respond to life early on. We all act as children — we pretend to be aeroplanes and trains. Some retain this talent and become actors. Vivaan is a natural. His body is flexible and eloquent. There was a time when in our apartment corridor, he’d play tennis. He’d pretend to be two players and the umpire on his own. He can play all parts and he’s got panache.
Directing The Caine Mutiny for an Indian theatre audience… It’s a play about world war. It’s about the psychology of people under stress, about losing your life any second. The Caine Mutiny is a study of vulnerable human beings under stress. And there’s no absolute truth; all are truthful in their own way. It’s a philosophical stance.
Directing an actor involves… Being able to spot the potential in the actor. I don’t think it’s a director’s job to teach a person to act. A director’s job is to put the actor in a comfortable zone where he feels trusted and More >
Eijaz Khan to play Khalid Mohamed
0Film critic Khalid Mohamed is penning a play on his life and times; TV actor Eijaz Khan has been chosen to portray the role
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 28, 2010)
Not so long ago, film critic-turned-director Khalid Mohammed announced that he was making a film on his own life. The film in question was titled Rutba and Vikram Bhatt had agreed to produce it. Model-turned-actor Rajneesh Duggal had been signed to play Khalid.
But Khalid and Vikram had creative differences and the deal fell through. However, Khalid still nurses a desire to put his life up on stage — the endeavour is to be monikered Kennedy Bridge. TV actor Eijaz Khan, Anita Hasanandani’s ex-boyfriend, has been signed to play Khalid.
Eijaz KhanPooja Bedi’s ex-boyfriend Hanif Hilal, who participated in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3, plays an equally pivotal part in the play.
“Kennedy Bridge is a close version of some incidents, which took place in Khalid’s life. The play is very close to Khalid’s heart. There are some very delicate moments in the story. Some changes will be introduced in Eijaz’s look to suit the character,” says a source.
Khalid has called Eijaz and Hanif to his residence several times to narrate portions of his life to help them get under the skin of their characters.
All the meetings have lasted for nearly three to four hours. Eijaz, who is currently out of the country, remained unavailable for comment.
However, Hanif confirmed More >

Adnan Sami and Roya FaryabiPic: Yogen Shah
The stage had been set. The cake had been baked. The decorations were done. But destiny had other plans. Adnan Sami could not marry his German girlfriend Roya Faryabi on January 31. Adnan and Roya had even flown to Germany on January 28.
While the exact reason for the wedding’s cancellation is a mystery, Adnan and Roya are still believed to be in Germany.
A source said, “Adnan and Roya had got some lovely wedding cards printed for their shaadi. They did a cute photo-shoot together and pasted those pictures on the cards. They had even dispatched the invitations to their friends and relatives.”
When contacted, Adnan’s son Azaan said, “My dad could not marry Roya on January 31 because some formalities had not been completed.”
Have Adnan and Roya broken up by any chance, we asked? Azaan shot back, “No. Why would they break up? I guess they will stay in Germany till they get married, but I really don’t know much.”
Roya, who is a qualified engineer in Munich and works in the communication services, is believed to dote on Azaan and respects Adnan’s mother. Let’s hope Adnan is third time lucky. “He is an eternal optimist who believes in love,” said the source.
Adnan’s friend, Pooja Bedi said, “Roya is a lovely person. The wedding cards were very
More >Priyanka lost Abbas-Mustan’s film bcoz of her exit from Rohan Sippy’s next?
0Abbas Mustan almost managed a casting coup, as Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra were to share the same frame in their remake of The Italian Job. But we now hear that Priyanka has lost out on the role.
Buzz is that it is a consequence of the actress opting out of Rohan Sippy’s new film, starring Abhishek. Priyanka thought she would be cast opposite Abhishek, but ended up with South star Rana Daggubati instead. So, that’s when the actress decided to make an exit.
// // // Perhaps Bachchan Jr, who is also part of the Italian Job, is not too pleased with her decision? Whatever the reason, Priyanka has lost out on The Italian Job remake as well.
A source says, “Priyanka was keen to work in Rohan Sippy’s film. They had worked together in Bluffmaster and wanted to be paired with him again, but it turned out to be a role with South star Rana Daggubati. So she chose to opt out, citing date problems. Rohan was aghast and grumbled about her to his friend Abhishek. This, in turn, upset Abhishek. Apparently, the actress chose to instead work in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Ek Bataa Saat.”
This incident was the last straw in the Abhishek-Priyanka relationship, which was already distressed. The source adds, “The cracks started developing in the Abhishek-Priyanka relationship More >
Aamir to perform on stage
0Aamir Khan will take the stage after 10 years. On January 15, the Bollywood superstar, currently riding a wave of success with 3 Idiots, will record his part for a concert that is being put up by the Cine & Television Artistes Association. Aamir only agreed to do this concert because it is for a cause.
Johny Lever, the President of the Cine Artistes Association says, “Our association has completed 50 years. I have personally requested Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and several other Bollywood biggies to perform for us. We need funds to rehabilitate and provide resources to junior artistes who are finding it hard to make ends meet.”
Shah Rukh Khan Aamir Khan Akshay KumarIt is said that after 1992, when Mithun Chakraborty personally initiated a huge concert to raise funds for artistes on the fringes of the film industry, there has been very little done to keep the focus on getting the junior artistes enough funds.
A trade source says, “This time Kiran Kumar and Johny Lever have taken it upon themselves to personally involve the biggest names in showbiz to contribute to the cause of the under-privileged.”
Johny says, “Each and every artiste that we approached has agreed.’’ Apparently Aamir has also sent out personal text messages to all the big names More >
Salman 'Uncle' abandons shooting to entertain kids!
0Trust Salman Khan to do the unthinkable. While most actors would think twice before packing up an important shooting schedule to please a cluster of clamouring kids, Salman did not hesitate to do just that. On Tuesday, Salman Khan abandoned his patchwork shooting for his period film Veer at the Khans’s farmhouse in Panvel and rushed to Mumbai to entertain kids at a children’s event.
On Tuesday late evening, while in the middle of the shoot, Salman received a call. When he hung up, he called for his car and informed the crew that he had to leave immediately. Fearing a family crisis, unit members rushed to his side only to be told that he needed to drive back from Panvel to a gymkhana in Mumbai to entertain a large number of kids.
A charitable organisation had organised a children’s nite at the gymkhana. The kids had been constantly asking for an appearance by their favourite star, Salman Khan, but the organisers ignored their request. However, during the event, on Tuesday evening, the kids became adamant and refused to perform on stage until Salman uncle was called to dance with them. In desperation, one of the organisers somehow got hold of Salman’s number and called him up.
A close friend of Salman said, “Salman is always doing such things. He simply stopped shooting, got into the car and rushed from his farmhouse in More >
Sujoy uses Big B's 20 year old line in a song!
0Aladin
Amitabh Bachchan will be seen dancing to a folk number in Sujoy Ghosh’s film Aladin. What’s interesting is that it is an old folk song recreated for the film and incidentally, it’s the same song that Sujoy Ghosh had heard Amitabh sing at a stage show two decades ago.
Our source said, “Bachchan came up with an impromptu two-liner song that he sung on stage for his fans some 20 years ago. Sujoy made note of the same and last year, while working on the music for Aladin, he requested music composers Vishal and Shekhar to incorporate those lines into a full song. The talented musical duo came up with a peppy number O Re Saawariya. When Bachchan heard the song, the legendary actor found the tune familiar but couldn’t recollect where he had heard those lines. He was pleasantly shocked when Sujoy told him that it was actually his (Bachchan’s) own song and reminded him about the concert that took place 20 years ago.”
O Re Saawariya is a fun number that reminds you of the foot-tapping tunes of the 1970s and 1980s. The song features Jacqueline, who is trying to woo Ritesh Deshmukh, while Amitabh Bachchan keeps popping into the scene at various points. The song is choreographed by Bosco Ceaser and Saroj Khan.
