Sajid Khan to play DJ in Sonakshi Sinha’s song in Himmatwala
1Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 21, 2013)
It’s a little known fact that in the late 80s, Sajid Khan used to earn extra pocket money as a part-time DJ at a suburban hot spot. More than two decades later, he will once again reprise his past role. This time round, for the launch of a song from his forthcoming film Himmatwala. What’s more, the otherwise conservative Sonakshi Sinha, who has done this special number in Sajid’s film, will perform live to the song with Sajid playing DJ.
Explaining how this happened, a source told Mirror, “Sonakshi has done a special song called Thank God Its Friday in Himmatwala. For the launch of this song, Sajid decided to play it at a party place. He called up Sonakshi if she could drop by for a live performance. Sonakshi instantly agreed, albeit on the condition that Sajid would be the DJ.”
It was during his college days that Sajid started moonlighting as a Disc Jockey. “Sajid will do his homework and get a hang of the equipment. Sonakshi will be the centre of attraction at this promotional event, and it will be an evening to remember,” said the source.
Sajid, who is in between his film’s post-production, replied to our text message saying, “Yes, but I am that DJ who only plays requests. As for Sonakshi, she is a great dancer and she is pretty okay with it.”
Meanwhile, the song Thank God Its Friday is a take on the disco culture of the 80s and has all the right ingredients of a heady mix…
Not only older heroines, just-arrived heroines are jobless too
1Where does our male superstars’ obsession with young co-stars leave our just-arrived debutants?
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; February 15, 2013)
So Salman’s found a new face opposite him for Sohail Khan’s film while SRK is hunting for one for Farah Khan’s next. Rumours are also abuzz that Nawab Saif Ali Khan is also looking for a fresh face for his home production. So what happened to Diana Penty who debuted in his home production, Cocktail, just last year? Last season’s flavour? Maybe yes.
2012 saw the grand debut of as many as a dozen newbies. But only a handful of them have any films on their plates this year. So why are our 40- something A-list male superstars so fussy about their co-stars’ age? Is it because of their insecurity about looking older or is it the fear of being overshadowed? After all, their A-list female counterparts too have their platter laden with too many meaty projects. Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma have no dates to spare for the entire year.
Tricks of the trade
Trade experts attribute this to a couple of factors. First of all, the lack of top actresses in Bollywood right now.
Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, “Kareena is already married and Priyanka is very busy. Sonakshi has already done two to three films with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Stars prefer to go for new girls who bring freshness to the project.” This is the reason that every year sees the influx of three to four More >
Check out fun on the sets of Bullet Raja in Kolkata
0Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; February 15, 2013)
Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha may be acting in a film together for the first time but from Day One the two stars bonded very well on the sets of Bullet Raja. The unit was recently shooting in Kolkata’s landmark sites. The mercury may have be rising in the City of Joy but Saif kept everyone cool with his pranks.
Says producer Rahul Mittra, “Saif has a great sense of humour and as we were shooting in real locations, it got slightly tough at times. But he kept us all in high spirits. There is a lot of positive energy on the sets when Saif is around and Sonakshi is a great sport too.” Unit sources state the actor plays pranks not only on his costar but also the producer as well as director Tigmanshu Dhulia.
Says the source, “Both Tigmanshu and Rahul are extremely expressive when the shots are taken. Unit hands keep taking their pictures. Saif and Sonakshi cannot stop laughing while watching some of the candid snapshots of both of them. But it is all done as harmless fun.”

Shatrughan Sinha calls out to ‘Rani Chopra’ on stage
0At a function to unveil the statue of the late Yash Chopra, Shatrughan Sinha’s ‘slip of tongue’ led to a comic scramble
Mumbai Mirror Bureau (February 12, 2013)
Shatrughan Sinha’s ‘slip of tongue’ at the unveiling of late filmmaker Yash Chopra’s statue Monday, not only created a ripple, it also prompted YRF to send out a hurried note, requesting mediapersons to not read too much into it.
Sinha, rather innocently referred to Rani Mukerji as Rani Chopra. By the time, the studio’s damage control team had swung into action, word was out, that perhaps it was a Freudian slip on the part of the veteran actor, and maybe he knew something that the whole world has only been guessing all this while.
While mentioning the entire Chopra family during his speech, Shatrughan said, “Yash Chopra, Pamela Chopra, Uday Chopra, Rani… just now, my wife said I missed out on Aditya Chopra. Rani Chopra ka naam liya hai toh zahir see baat hai Aditya Chopra ka naam bhi… (When I am taking Rani Chopra’s name, then it is obvious that I am taking Aditya Chopra’s name as well).”
Rani, according to reports, covered her mouth in shock. For a long time now, rumours have been rife that the 34-year-old actress shares a close bond with Aditya Chopra, and the duo has already tied the knot in 2012 in a private ceremony but none of them have either officially confirmed their relationship, or their wedding.
What added credence to the wedding theory was Rani’s teary-eyed presence on the stage. As she stood with More >
Sonakshi Sinha demands 5 cr for doing Telegu film?
0Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; February 12, 2013)
Sonakshi Sinha is apparently charging a fee of Rs 5 crore for Krish Jagarlamudi’s Telugu film Shivam in which she will be seen opposite Mahesh Babu.
According to a source, “Sonakshi had limited dates but she liked the script. She was also keen to do a period film so she gave her consent.” Apparently, Krish began writing the film three years ago, which is also when he first saw Sonakshi in Dabangg. He wanted to narrate the story to her back then, however, the actress was not keen to do South films at that time. Later through Prabhu Deva, Krish managed to meet Sonakshi and sign her.”
Check out Saif-Sonakshi shooting for Bullet Raja in Kolkata
0Jayatri Nag (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 9, 2013)
The Kolkata schedule of Tigmanshu Dhulia’s upcoming film, Bullet Raja started on Friday with a full-day shoot at Hedua Laha Bari. It is one of the oldest heritage buildings of North Kolkata and the shooting started around 9.30am with the lead pair– Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. The area was cordoned off for the shoot and it was only after the pack up at 5 pm that locals were allowed to enter the vicinity. Next, Dhulia will shoot a song sequence in the narrow lanes and by-lanes–so much a characteristic of North Kolkata. Apart from this, the crew is also scheduled to shoot at Princep Ghat and Kumartuli– two all-time favourites among filmmakers. In the film, the Dabangg actress plays an urban chic in love with a guntoting gangster, played by Saif. This is the second time Sonakshi is shooting in West Bengal. A few months back, she was in the state to shoot for the Ekta Kapoor-Anurag Kashyap co-production Lootera, where she is cast opposite Ranveer Singh. While Saif, who is quite a frequent visitor to the city, last shot Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal with Giselli Monteiro in one of the most unassuming locales of South Kolkata. The team will soon have company with the Gunday team of Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh arriving in the city as well.
Sonakshi Sinha gets kissing orders from Milan Luthria
0Soumyadipta Banerjee (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 4, 2013)
Sonakshi Sinha maybe heading for her maiden on-screen kiss. Director Milan Luthria has managed to convince the Dabangg actress, who has so far shied away from doing any intimate scene, to share a lip-lock with her co-star Imran Khan in her upcoming film Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Again.
“The makers of the sequel thought it was important to include such a scene, to match up to the steamy scenes of the Emraan Hashmi starrer. So, the original script of the sequel had a sensuous scene between Imran and Sonakshi,” a source said. However, now the intimate scene might be toned down and reduced to a smooch. “Milan had few rounds of discussions with the actors. Although, Imran was game, Sonakshi needed some convincing,” the source added.
Though Imran has done some risqué scenes in the past, Sonakshi always had had her reservations. However, the scene was an integral part of the script that she has decided to make an exception. While Sonakshi refrained from commenting, Imran’s spokesperson said: “Imran Khan understands the requirements of a script and will not shy away from a kiss if the script demands so.”
Saif-Sonakshi to shoot Bullet Raja song in Kolkata
0Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 25, 2013)
Sonakshi Sinha may not have been able to visit her father’s native Bihar yet, but her tryst with Bengal continues. After shooting at picturesque locations in the outskirts of Kolkata with Ranveer Singh and the crew of Lootera, the Dabangg girl is all set to return to the city – and this time to shoot for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s mafia drama, Bullet Raja.
A source close to the crew said: “Tigmanshu had gone to Kolkata to do a recce and has finalised the locations along with the producer of the film, Rahul Mittra. Sonakshi and Saif are supposed to fly in next week to shoot a song. They will shoot on the streets of the city for seven days.”
The first schedule of the film has been shoot in Lucknow over 40 days. This had crucial scenes of the film, with plenty of action. After this, Saif left for his honeymoon. Meanwhile Sonakshi was wrapping up all her other commitments in the city, that included shooting for Himmatwala among other things.
While Saif sports a rustic look in the film with a moustache and short kurtas withsleeves rolled up, Sonakshi will compliment him in a slick, urban avtar.
Incidentally, the film’s cast will have company – Gunday starring Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra too will start shooting there. Seems Kahaani has woken up Bollywood to the charms of the quaint city.
Bullet Raja has music by Sajid -Wajid.
Skin show just for attracting attention is a strict no-no – Sonakshi Sinha
0Jayoti Soor (DNA; January 20, 2013)
Sonakshi SinhaSonakshi Sinha doesn’t mind her ten-day holiday in Phuket being cut short for work, and confesses that she might be turning into a workaholic looking at her packed schedule ahead. She also clarifies that contrary to rumours, there has been no fallout with Salman Khan.
You have been the face of Sohail Khan’s Celebrity Cricket League and the news is that you have been dropped… My schedule is really packed and they understand that I will not be able to attend the matches, as I will be busy shooting for my films. We are like a family. I had to cut down my 10-day holiday to Phuket to just four days and strangely I did not mind it. In fact, on the fourth day, I started feeling restless.
Does that mean you are turning into a workaholic? (Laughs) I might be. The fact is that I love my work and have no room for anything else in my life right now.
After matching steps with Prabhu Dheva in Oh My God you recently shot for an item number Thank God It’s Friday for Sajid Khan, you seem to becoming a hot favourite for item numbers… I did Go, Go, Go Govinda as it was a fun Janmashtami number, and who would not like to shake a leg with Prabhu Dheva? The current item number that I shot for is a 80’s disco number and has a retro feel to it. I got hooked onto it because Sajid said item toh hai but there is no skin show.
Are you averse to skin show even if the role demands it? I can’t comment on how others operate. But, I have certain More >
