After an outstanding performance as Chatur ‘Silencer’ Ramalingam in 3 Idiots followed by Dil Toh Bachha Hai Ji, Omi Vaidya will be next seen in action-thriller Players, shot in New Zealand. Despite a busy schedule filled with riveting car chases against Wellington’s hillside terrain, Omi didn’t waste any time in exploring the country’s bounty of attractions along with his co-stars. Talking about his adventure, Omi says, “Filming for Players in New Zealand was a dream come true. Our first location, Wellington, really grew on us as it was big enough to explore, but small enough to not feel lost in. Although it is known as Windy Wellington, I actually enjoyed the weather. The small quaint shops and little streets really promoted us to walk around and explore. And we were lucky enough to celebrate Abhishek Bachchan’s birthday during the Rugby Sevens victory party that happened all night on the streets. That was quite a night! In Auckland, we visited the Casino and got to go to some really nice beaches. New Zealand is such a nice country; it’s hard to keep focused on work.”
Post his Auckland schedule, Omi traveled indulged in white water rafting in New Zealand’s geothermal paradise, Rotorua alongwith his darling wife, Malini, who flew in from USA to join Omi. Omi adds, “The white water experience was amazing. Rafting in Rotorua was a thrill beyond comprehension! Not only did I raft down the highest More >
Chamatkaar for Chatur
0BOLLYWOOD CALLING: Omi Vaidya
Omi Vaidya aka Chatur Ramalingam has kickstarted his Bollywood innings on a successful note
HARSHADA REGE Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; January 11, 2010)
Making it big in Bollywood has been nothing short of a… ahem ‘chamatkaar’ for Omi Vaidya, better known as Chatur Ramalingam who did his best to get Rajkumar Hirnani’s 3 Idiots into trouble. And his effort has paid off big time! On the big premiere night he says, in his heavily-accented Hindi, “I learnt a few lines like ‘Aamir Khanji ke saath kaam kar ke mazaa aaya’ and stuff like that. But to my utter dismay, no one bothered to take any photographs or seemed interested in doing any interviews!” But three hours later, it was a different scene altogether. “It was hard for me to leave the theatre. The best compliment came from Shabana Azmi, who told my mom that ‘He’s the best in the movie’,” he smiles. Now, his ‘chamatkaarchanged-to-balatkaar’ speech has become a big hit, online and over cell phones. Omi, an actor from Los Angeles has been part of shows like The Office, Arrested Development, CSI Las Vegas and Kath and Kim. “Raju offered me the role of an NRI, which was Chatur. And I got it only because of my bad Hindi. His only condition was that I should stop watching Hindi movies and learning the language. And most importantly he asked me to stop exercising because in the first bit that we were going to shoot for the part where I am supposed to be fat, bald and older. I had to pile More >
Movie Review: 3 IDIOTS by FENIL SETA
0Although 51 weeks had passed in 2009, it still seemed incomplete. There was not a single Hindi flick this year which could be happily showered with never-ending appreciation and 5/5 ratings. Thankfully, 3 Idiots has arrived in the final week and given us the much needed ‘film of the year’! To tell you the truth, I am finding it difficult to express my satisfaction and happiness in words. Rajkumar Hirani has come up with an extremely superior product. And like his previous Munnabhai flicks, 3 Idiots also entertains and at the same time enriches! And the enlightment is such that will remain with you for a long time and would not vanish away after coming out of theatre! Needless to say, it’s a must watch!!
The story of the movie: Farhan (R Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) are in search for their college friend, Ranchoddas aka Rancho (Aamir Khan) who has vanished after the convocation. They missed him terribly as he was a special friend. He was different from others. He reaffirmed the simple ideas of life which were left behind by everyone for ‘textbook knowledge’ which results in profitable future. He propagated his ideas in a humanistic manner without fear and thus, challenged even the head of college, Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman Irani). He inspired Farhan and Raju to think out of the box and to not end up mugging knowledge. Watch the film to find out where Rancho had disappeared and why.
