Amrita tweets; gets replaced by Manjari in Shreyas Talpade’s next

Manjari Phadnis has stepped in instead of Amrita Rao in debutant director Ajit Sinha’s upcoming film about a common man starring Shreyas Talpade. Ajit was earlier assisting filmmakers Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria. The replacement was necessitated after Amrita claimed on her micro- blogging site that it was untrue that she was part of the project.

Says a source, “ The makers had been in talks with Amrita and she was to get back with her dates after which the memorandum of understanding was to be signed. They waited for Amrita for 25 days to get back.” Producer Narendra Singh confirms, “ It came as a shock to us when Amrita tweeted that she is not doing the film! This after confirming with the director that she would get back on the date schedule.” As reported ‘Shreyas, Amrita together’ ( Hitlist, January 9), the makers were keen to cast the Welcome to Sajjanpur pair once again in a film.

Adds Singh, “But we are now happy with this fresh casting. Shreyas and Manjari essay a Maharashtrian couple and as both are Maharashtrains they will be able to add the original lingo and do justice to their characters. We have already done a photo shoot with Shreyas dressed as a Peshwa and Manjari in a navvari sari. We begin shooting in Agra shortly.”

Soha Ali Khan on real-life heroes, learning on the job and sis-in-law Kareena Kapoor

Shakti Shetty (MID-DAY; January 24, 2013)

She may not be known as a style diva but while in Guwahati, for an event to promote fashion from the “neglected” states of North- East, Soha Ali Khan sounds thrilled.

As an ambassador to the region’s fashion, she’d be part of several workshops too. We caught up with Soha to know about her films, family and the future.

Your upcoming film, Chemistry, with Shreyas Talpade is apparently stuck… Yes it is and I feel bad about it. What else can I do? (Pause) But having worked in films that never released, what I like more is the idea of going to work everyday and enjoying myself with people on the sets. I love the process of making a film more than the final product.

Does Saif Ali Khan play a role in the scripts you choose? As an elder brother, he provides me privileged insights into my work, life, relationship and much more. However, talking about my career, he doesn’t have much of a say. In fact, he hasn’t even watched any of my films. He has seen just half of Soundtrack (smiles).

And how is Kareena Kapoor as sister-in-law? She is how she was for the past five years. She’s lovely and I have immense respect for her as she has two main focuses in her life — one is work and the other is my brother. And she’s balancing both of them pretty well.

It will be shot extensively in Agra including around the Taj Mahal for which the makers have already taken permission.

Producer Narendra Singh states, “We are all geared up for the shoot. Shreyas is looking forward to essaying the character of a common man that he can play with great ease. We are just waiting for Amrita’s dates to begin the shooting.” Amrita has a project with Sunny Deol and another one with Arshad Warsi presently.

The owner of the Veer Marathi team in the forthcoming edition of CCL

Harshada Rege (BOMBAY TIMES; October 31, 2012)

After trying his hand at Marathi film production and making a foray into music with a Marathi song (Inga, for his last release), actor Riteish Deshmukh is now the owner of the Maharashtra cricket team, Veer Marathi, which is one of the two new teams introduced in the third season of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL).

Says Riteish, “CCL wanted to have more teams. They asked me if I was interested in taking on one. Talks were on about adding a Bhojpuri, Punjabi or a Marathi team. We thought about it and decided to go with it.”

The actor, who’s been associated with the league since the first season, used to play for the Mumbai team. On his new role, he says, “I was the vice-captain for the Mumbai team and this is a step ahead. This is a great initiative to have all the actors under one roof, playing against each other. The Marathi team will be a great addition to the league.” And will he play for his team? “I would rather play than own a team. I enjoy playing the game. Hopefully, I will have a larger role to play and eventually get to captain the side.”

When asked about his expectations from his team, Riteish says, “We’ll have to get together faster. We have a short time to get to know each other. But I hope we do well. As more teams join the more difficult it gets.” And will he cheer for his former teammates? “Absolutely, why not?” On choosing the name Veer More >

Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; October 21, 2012)

Celebrity Cricket League Season III is now eightteams strong with Veer Marathi and Bhojpuri Dabbangs joining the fray.

Riteish who owns Veer Marathi and is the team’s captain, said, “I played for Mumbai Heroes for the past two seasons. It helped me create a team of my own. Mahesh Manjrekar and Shreyas Talpade will be a part of the squad and we’re looking for more players to get on board.”

Bhojpuri superstar and Dabbangs’ captain Manoj said, “Our team (which also includes Ravi Kishen) has already been practising for the past few months. Our film industry is popular in UP, Bihar, Delhi, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh. We’ll enjoy good viewership from the North.” Added team owner P Kanakia, “Our clashes with the other teams will be like a India vs Pak match!”

Vishnu Vardhan Induri, founder and Managing Director, CCL, concluded, “With new teams on board, CCL is no longer dominated by teams from the South. Last season, four of six teams were from the South.”

Don’t need to work to pay my bills-Nana Patekar

The actor has made an exception for Priyadarshan]

BOMBAY TIMES (September 28, 2012)

How was it working with Priyadarshan? I have wanted to work with Priyan for more than a decade, but nothing materialised. He approached me for Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal and gave me a narration. When I asked for the script, he said, ‘You have to eat and beat. That’s it’. I keep teasing Priyan that whenever I become a film director, I will cast him as an actor. I hope he is reading this.

And Shreyas Talpade? His theatre background gives his talent an edge. But why only Shreyas? I enjoyed working with all my co-actors like Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Shakti Kapoor and Razzak Khan. Irrespective of the film’s outcome at the box office, what is important are the moments we have spent together. The profit from the movies belong to the producers, but the moments are purely ours.

You are doing very few films. Is that deliberate? It is because my reason to work has changed. A man works either for money or satisfaction. I have earned enough and don’t need to work to pay my bills. As far as satisfaction is concerned, I am yet to get a role that conveys a message to the people at large. So, I have decided to do a film only when I find a reason to be part of it creatively. Otherwise, I choose to be elusive and absent.

Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal produced by Percept Pictures releases today.

Shreyas-Madhhurima’s bittersweet moments

Parag Maniar (BOMBAY TIMES; September 16, 2012)

Shreyas Talpade and Madhhurima, the lead pair of Priyadarshan’s Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal (KDM), had a blast shooting for the film.

Shreyas recalls a funny incident, “I challenged Madhhurima to have bitter gourd juice everyday on the pretext that it is the most potent health tonic. She, in all her adventurous spirit, took it on willingly and actually drank the juice everyday. This was one of many pranks I played on her and she took it all happily. Hats off to her sporting spirit!”

The actress later gave Shreyas and the unit members a taste of their own medicine. “She got us bitter gourd-flavoured ‘sweets’, which were in fact stuffed with chillies and passed these on as prasad. She had the last laugh too, I guess! She is the sweetest co-star I have worked with,” says the actor. The two are now looking forward to more fun during their forthcoming promotional tours.

Keeping the festive mood of Ganesh Chaturthi in mind, gold coins with KDM engraved on them, are going to be distributed during the promotional events of the film.

Produced by Percept Pictures, Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal releases September 28, 2012.

Why is ‘Joker’ not being promoted?

Just 15 days away from the release date, there hardly seems to be any noise around the promotions of Shirish Kunder’s forthcoming film

Jigar Shah (MID-DAY; August 15, 2012)

The King and the Queen are in their places, but looks like the Joker has gone into hiding. Even with a superhit jodi like Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead, close on the heels of their last Rs 150 crore blockbuster Rowdy Rathore, it appears that no one wants to make hay while the sun is shining.

Just 15 days left to promote the film, surprisingly, most of the members of Shirish Kunder’s cast and crew other than the aliens are too busy with other professional commitments.

Who’s busy doing what

Akshay Kumar He is not just acting in the film but also co-producing it. Akki appeared on the finale of a children’s dance reality show recently but instead promoted his other home production OMG Oh My God, which is releasing much later. There was not a word about Shirish’s film. He is also busy shooting for his other home production with Himesh Reshammiya, Khiladi 786.

Sonakshi Sinha She appeared on one reality show to promote the film. Though Akki was in town, he didn’t come along.

The aliens Last seen promoting the film at a Lower Parel mall

Chitrangda Singh While Chitrangda has done one item number in the film, she went to Delhi to promote the film.

Minissha Lamba The actress’ spokesperson says Minissha has no knowledge of any promotional activity.

After much delay, Sunny Deol’s next film is all set to roll again; Shreyas Talpade joins the cast

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; June 27, 2012)

Neeraj Pathak’s Sunny Deol-starrer Bhaiyyaji Superhit that was plagued with production problems now gets a fresh lease of life. The film is back on track with an addition to the cast — Shreyas Talpade. The actor has been included instead of Tusshar Kapoor, who opted out due to date issues.

As the project was being continuously delayed, Tusshar decided to walk out as his other projects were being affected. Says Shreyas, “I essay the role of a writer and have a distinct look in the film. I am super-excited about it as it is an action-comedy.” The film, which has Sunny essay a double role, also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Arshad Warsi, Ameesha Patel and Prakash Raj.

Producer Fauzia Arshi who was involved in a dispute with director Neeraj Pathak has sorted out the issues. The shooting resumed yesterday in the city. The film had been stalled after an initial spell of shooting in Mahabaleshwar due to budgetary reasons.

There had also been buzz that the film was being shelved and another producer was taking over the film. But Fauzia says, “I am happy that the project is on. My co-producer and I have made it roll again.”
