When legendary director and actor, late Raj Kapoor took a stroll on a rainy night with his ladylove Nargis, sharing one umbrella and lip-syncing to Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua Hai in Shree 420, it created history. Now, 58 years later, his son is stepping into his shoes to walk the walk. Rishi Kapoor, who sports a hippie look replete with tattoos on his arms in David Dhavan’s Chashme Baddoor, recently shot a sequence in Goa, replicating the iconic scene and braving the drizzle with him, was Lillete Dubey. However, instead of the lilting romance of the Shankar Jaikishan song, playing at the background was a Rishi Kapoor hit, Tu tu tu, from Bol Radha Bol.

Director Aanand L Rai gives him 25 DVDs of the late filmmaker to help him transform for his role in Raanjhnaa

Garima Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; June 6, 2012)

Playing the role of a Varanasi boy may not be easy for Dhanush, but director Aanand L Rai, who has cast the Tamil actor along with Sonam Kapoor in his next Raanjhnaa, is going all out to ensure that Dhanush gets the nuances of the character right. So much so, that Rai recently gave Dhanush a collection of Raj Kapoor films to help transform into a similar persona.

In the film, both Dhanush and Sonam are shown hailing from Varanasi, but the story shows Sonam finishing her college education in Delhi at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). So, while the actress will spend time at JNU to get into the skin of her character, Dhanush is taking similar lessons from Raj Kapoor it seems.

Rai says, “I want Dhanush to totally transform into a Varanasi boys so I gave him DVDs of movies like Shree 420, Awara and Mera Naam Joker. I want him to notice the peculiarities of the roles, and then give his own touch to them. He is a very perceptive actor and has the astuteness of a director, therefore, it’s easy to explain this experiment to him. Raj Kapoor’s portrayals touched your soul, and that’s what I want Dhanush to also be able to do with this film.”

Dhanush too is working hard to portray the same Dickensian shades which so many of Kapoor’s roles had. He says, “I’m working on a Tamil film right now and whatever time I get from that, More >

Mauli Singh (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 23, 2010)

Lately the unit of Shah Rukh Khan’s much awaited next RA.One seems to have a lot of high profile visitors.

On Wednesday evening, the Russian President, Dmitri Medvedev, who is in town on a political visit, dropped by on the sets of the film. Medvedev wanted to meet SRK and Kareena Kapoor, the grand daughter of the legendary actor Raj Kapoor.

Shah rukh Khan and Anubhav Sinha Magician Franz Harary

It may be recalled that the legendary actor Raj Kapoor is the most popular Bollywood actor in Russia till date. Shree 420 and Awaara were big hits in Russia and songs from the films can still be heard in restaurants in and around Moscow.

A reliable source reveals, “The president was very keen to meet Shah Rukh Khan. Since he is a huge fan of Raj Kapoor, he also expressed his desire to meet the two grandchildren of Raj Kapoor Kareena and Ranbir. He couldn’t meet Ranbir since the actor is shooting in Delhi for Rockstar, but he did catch up with Kareena and SRK while they were shooting a song sequence at the Yash Raj studios. The President saw one shot, chatted with the stars and left.”

A while ago the world’s best magician, Franz Harary, who made the Taj Mahal disappear years ago, was in B town. Since he was in Bombay he was very keen to see a Bollywood film shoot.

I’m shy, lonely, docile, complex, confused and complicated-Ranbir Kapoor

Presenting the dichotomy kid… Ranbir kapoor By Indu Mirani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 05, 2009)

• How much of the real Ranbir do we know?

Probably 30 per cent. And that too from the films I do because it’s only then that I actually give something of myself to the character. But when I am doing interviews, there is a certain amount of a façade. If you are an introvert or shy like me, you need to exude some confidence, some belief in what you are doing. But honestly, I am scared. I am not that confident an actor to believe and think that everything I do will be a success.

I believe, the remaining 70 per cent will eventually come through when I reach a point where I can really surrender to a character. I hope that role turns up some day. As I keep saying, I am very ambitious. I have lots of directors to work with, lots of roles to play. I hope to be a working actor everyday of my life, to be able to go on a set. I really don’t know what to do with my time when I am not on set.

// • When you are not on your Segway that is…

(laughs) I do that every night. It’s my way of letting go. I know it sounds weird and stupid but it’s kind of spiritual. I do it at 2-2.30 in the night. The roads are empty, the weather is great and you just drive through.

• A girl who has worked with you, describes you as a mixture of the three Khans. A bad boy like Salman, charmer like Shah Rukh and focused like Aamir.

That girl might be drunk or on some drug because I am not even close to
