Sanjay Dutt’s Zanjeer shoot stuck thanks to Priyanka Chopra?
1Jigar Shah (MID-DAY; March 29, 2013)
While Sanjay Dutt’s team of legal eagles are leaving no stone unturned to get the actor a reprieve from the Supreme Court, looks like he has another obstacle that is keeping him from wrapping up the schedule of one of his pending films.
Sources say that thanks to Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay has to wait to complete his schedule for Zanjeer 2.0. PC is currently in Miami to shoot for her second music video.
An insider says, “Sanjay is running against time. He began shooting yesterday for his cop film. In the evening he also began dubbing for Zanjeer’s remake, where he plays Sher Khan. The film still needs three to five days of shoot with Sanjay. And that can only happen once Priyanka is back.”
And industry insiders say Rajkumar Hirani, who is directing P.K., has given him a free hand to work his dates for the pending shoot.
Action is a dicey genre-Salman Khan
0Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; January 6, 2013)
Actor Salman Khan on the sets of Bigg Boss DNAThe show Bigg Boss hasn’t exactly been parivarik, though that’s what you have been saying since it began… We wanted it to be that way and to a certain extent it has been like that. But yes, sometimes contestants have gone overboard. However, in real life also people abuse each other but no one takes notice. If someone wants to make a big deal out of it like Imam (Siddiqui), he will do it. Also, you have to understand that if there are no fights, it will not be Bigg Boss. You cannot put a limit on anything. Some people consider this entertainment. Yes, women audiences pull back but the younger generation loves it. It’s a difficult format for the host and contestants. The channel wants it be more expressive and they may be right about it for the ratings but I have a slightly different view. There has to be a fun element but the amount they expect is something I am not comfortable with.
Will you be hosting the next season? Let’s see. They haven’t asked me yet.
Your latest outing Dabangg 2 has also made over Rs 100 crores… Is a third one in the offing? In another 10 days, Dabangg 2 will cross Rs 150 crores. And yes, there will be a third instalment but after sometime. Right now, I have Kick, Sher Khan and the sequel to No Entry to complete.
Since Wanted you have been doing action and masala entertainers. In fact, many others too are cashing in on the genre… There are lots of More >
Cost of creating special tiger more than Sher Khan’s budget?
0Hiren Kotwani (BOMBAY TIMES; January 4, 2013)
On November 20, Bombay Times reported about Sohail Khan’s promise to his brother Salman that he wouldn’t launch Sher Khan till he had found a Bengal tiger, real or animated, like Richard Parker from Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi. Seems the cost of creating such a tiger has further dampened Sohail’s spirits. According to our source, the actor-filmmaker inquired from his contacts in the US the expenditure involved in creating tiger like Richard Parker. “Only creating the tiger and its action was going to cost over 40 crore, which is higher than the regular production budget of a Salman film, minus his fee. So one can imagine the budget required for such a film. Hence, until Salman is assured of the feasibility of such a project, Sohail can’t go ahead with it,” explains our source.
A trendy twist to Sher Khan in Zanjeer remake
0Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2012)
That Sanjay Dutt will reprise the role of Sher Khan in Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of Prakash Mehra’s 1973 blockbuster Zanjeer, had been reported by this newspaper. And now we bring you Dutt’s look in the film.
The actor sports a bright yellow pathani and a trendy French beard in the remake. By contrast, Pran, who immortalised the role in the original film, worea greenish embroidered kurta with a shimmering pink jacket. Add to that, his flaming red beard and moustache gave him a more conventional look.
Elaborating on Dutt’s appearance in the film, director Lakhia told Mirror, “From the time we decided only Sanjay could do this role, he walked onto the sets as Sher Khan. My female assistants got very excited. Navin Shetty and Aalim have worked very hard on his look. He has a huge fan following and we wanted to make him look like a modern Pathan. The last time Sanju Sir played a pathan was years back. As for Pran saab, he was a very senior and established actor when Zanjeer was being shot. It’s the same situation for Sanju today.”
Modern or not, Dutt has quite a task ahead of him as he has to fill Pran’s rather big shoes…
Salman’s Sher Khan canned as he wants Life Of Pi tiger
0Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; November 24, 2012)
The Bengal tiger from Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi (LOP) is reportedly the villain in filmmaker Sohail Khan’s life. Sohail was to make Sher Khan with his brother Salman Khan and use a tiger in it as a lead character along with his superstar brother.
Sources say that when Salman saw the footage of LOP, he was mighty impressed with the Bengal tiger with whom the lead character makes his journey across the rough seas. Our source adds, “Salman was very impressed with the character of the tiger, Richard Parker. He called Sohail and showed him the footage repeatedly and, apparently, even asked him whether the tiger that Sohail had in mind would resemble the Bengal tiger in LOP. Sohail promised his brother that till he got such an impressive tiger, real or animated, he would not launch Sher Khan.”
The film reportedly has been canned, or at least indefinitely postponed. Who’d have thought that an animal making his debut in a Hollywood film would prove to be a thorn in the Khans’ lives?
Sanjay Dutt back as Sher Khan in Zanjeer remake?
0After having worked his dates out, Sanjay Dutt is back in the Bollywood remake of Zanjeer
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; October 25, 2012)
After much ado, Sanjay Dutt is back in Apoorva Lakhia’s Hindi remake of Zanjeer. Dutt will be playing the iconic character of Sher Khan, which was originally essayed by Pran. Earlier, the actor had opted out of the film and was replaced by Arjun Rampal.
There were also rumours doing the rounds that Sonu Sood was to play the same part but our informers tell us that he will now be doing the Telugu version of the film instead. Lakhia says, “I am so blessed that Sanju sir will be playing the role of Sher Khan while Sonu, who has a huge market and is a big star down South, will be doing it in Telugu. Ram Charan Teja is playing Amitabh Bachchan’s role in both the films.”
A source adds that Teja, who is a family friend and gym buddy of Dutt, was extremely happy to be working alongside the actor. Teja even apparently called Dutt after signing the project. Lakhia says, “Earlier Sanju sir had some date issues. We approached him with the script again and he suggested some changes that we made. Dutt’s manager and his team managed to work out the dates for us this time. We start shooting next month.”
Deepika Padukone-Kareena Kapoor war intensifies?
0Aakansha Naval-Shetye (DNA; October 15, 2012)
Actresses Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have crossed paths often enough to be considered as professional rivals. Most recently, Ram Leela —a film that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had first offered to Kareena fell into Deepika’s lap, after Bhansali reportedly dropped her as he didn’t want a married heroine.
Sources claim that date issues was the real problem. In either case, it turned out to work in Deepika’s favour, who bagged the role beating her peers. Then again, after Kareena turned down Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor’s yet-to-be-titled film opposite Emraan Hashmi, it is apparently Deepika who has been roped in for the lead role. And now, it seems like the tug-of-war between the two Bolly hotties continues for Sohail Khan’s Sher Khan as well.
The makers are yet to lock a heroine for their film starring Salman Khan in the title role. And according to sources, both Kareena and Deepika are said to be in the running for it.
An insider reveals that while Deepika’s pairing with Salman will be a fresh one and she too has expressed a desire to work with the Khan, Kareena’s name figures very high on the list. “Deepika has often admitted that she is keen to work with Salman and there’s no doubt that the pairing will be a fresh one too. Also she’s proven to be a strong actress herself, so she’s definitely a name being considered,” says the insider.
Talking about Kareena, the source adds that her super-success at the box office, clubbed More >
Salman-Sanju, Anil-Sajid locked in bitter title wars
1Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; September 8, 2012)
‘What’s in a name?’ said Shakespeare — implying that a rose, even if it is called by any other name, will still smell as sweet. Well, Bollywood doesn’t subscribe to this view. Time and again two or more filmmakers/actors have been locked in bitter title battles. Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan are reportedly in a silent war because Salman’s next film is titled Sher Khan and Sanju’s next is called Sher.
A source confirms, “Sallu is upset with Ashtavinayak and Sanju because they have called their film Sher knowing very well that Salman has registered Sher Khan for his banner a long, long time ago. The titles are very close and quite naturally Sallu is feeling let-down.’’
On the face of it, Sanju and Sallu are very cordial and even share a cuppa whenever their paths cross like it did on the sets of Son Of Sardaar. However, you cannot deny the undercurrents between these two actors. Even music composer Himesh Reshammiya had to reportedly walk out of Sher because he owes allegiance first to ‘bhai’ (Salman) and ony then to the rest of the industry.
Two other heavyweights who are currently warring are Anil Kapoor and Sajid Nadiadwala. Anil’s producer-beti Rhea has registered Herogiri as her title, while Sajid has registered Heropanti for his film in which he introduces Tiger Shroff. Very little difference, haan? Anil is candid enough to say, “Yes I have conveyed my displeasure to Sajid and he has promised to look into it.’’

Sanjay Dutt replaces Arjun Rampal in Zanjeer
0Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 27, 2012)
Pran had immortalised the role of the crook with a golden heart, Sher Khan in Prakash Mehra’s 1973 blockbuster Zanjeer. And though initially, Sanjay Dutt was reportedly set to reprise the role in its remake, it was Arjun Rampal who bagged it. And now, back from a miraculous physical makeover, Dutt is back in his pal Apoorva Lakhia’s film.
Mirror found out that on Saturday afternoon, Arjun opted out of the project. “Yes unfortunately I am opting out of Zanjeer. The dates were clashing with Nikhil Advani’s film. It was getting too cut-to-cut for me. The only window I had this year for Zanjeer was in July. But that got pushed ahead. Now it would be unfair of me to ask them to wait until next year for my dates. Sher Khan is an iconic character. Any actor would be happy to play him,” the actor told us.
Needless to say, the role went back to Dutt – the first choice for Sher Khan.
According to a source close to the project, the neo Sher Khan will be a lot different from the character reprised by Pran in 1973. “This Zanjeer needs two well-built guys. The confrontation between Vijay and Sher Khan in the original Zanjeer was aggressive and violent but the brawn quotient was missing. Pran saab was obviously not expected to fight bare-backed and Bachchan Saab never took off his shirt. This time Ram Charan Teja and his on-screen Sher Khan slug it out bare-torsoed. That’s why Arjun Rampal with his lithe build was selected. Sanjay Dutt More >
