Ask any actor to name his contemporary who has impressed him or her and the answer will be ‘I don’t see other actors’ films.’ Enquire about competition and the reply usually is: ‘I don’t consider anyone competition. I only compete with myself.’ It’s almost as if they are taught these lines at whatever acting school they attend at the beginning of their careers. Which is why Ranveer Singh is such a refreshing change. When asked which of the new actors have impressed him with their choice of films, he talked about two fellow actors at length.
He said, “Ranbir Kapoor. I really admire what he’s been able to achieve in five years. He’s in a position today where he’s picking the films that he believes in and they are becoming successful because he’s established his star value. He’s making very brave choices and his performances are all fabulous. I don’t think he’s ever been bad in any movie. What he’s been doing with his recent films is why I admire him even more. For all the young actors today he’s clearly the benchmark. Amongst all of us right now he’s the only one who is competing with the big boys. He’s making the decision for quality films like Barfi and Rockstar and he’s working for the betterment of cinema and most certainly keeping us on our toes.” Ranveer’s high praise for RK speaks volumes about his confidence. Only an actor who is completely secure can More >

Ironically, while friendship has been an abiding theme in Hindi films down the years, real such alliances don’t seem to last very long in the industry. The latest being Kareena Kapoor and producer Lovely Singh, once known to be the best of buddies, no longer share the same camaraderie.
It’s been a while since they drifted apart but neither of them has come out in the open, till now. “Things are not the same between Kareena and me. We are not much in touch. I guess we are both extremely busy with our work,” Lovely said when quizzed by Mirror. After a pause, he added, “If you really wish to know anything further, let me tell you I was not even invited for her wedding.”
Asked what drove them apart, Lovely refused to divulge details. However, we spoke to sources close to the duo and found that a few common friends had managed to create misunderstandings between them.
A source close to the Kapoor family revealed: “Even Kareena’s mother Babita did not approve of Lovely. She felt he was beginning to wield too much influence on her decisions about her life and career.” Apparently, that’s when Kareena started distancing herself from Lovely and this upset him since it was he who stood by her when she parted ways with Shahid Kapoor and went through a particularly low phase.
The change in equation had one more fall out. Lovely’s brother, Rahul Singh, who used to manage Shahid’s work, was forced to leave the job because of the More >

Life has come full circle for Shahid Kapoor. The actor completed 10 years in B-Town yesteray on the sets of Phata Poster Nikhla Hero produced by Ramesh Taurani. Ever since Rajkumar Santoshi worked with Salman Khan in his 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna, the filmmaker and the star have always shared a special bond.
Santoshi made Salman do a special appearance in his 2009 Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Salman has now also done a cameo in his upcoming film Phata Poster Nikla Hero starring Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz being produced by Ramesh Taurani.
Says a source, “It was Santoshi’s idea to have Sallu in the film. He wanted it to be a surprise element but nothing remains a secret in Bollywood when the rest of the cast starts talking about it. Santoshi told the producers about his idea and they left it entirely to him to co- ordinate with Salman. And there was no way he could have not fulfilled his wish.” For a while now there has also been buzz that Santoshi was keen to make a sequel to Andaz Apna Apna with Salman and Aamir Khan.
Adds a source, “Salman was keen and has even expressed his desire to revisit the comedy but with both the filmmaker and he busy with their other projects, the sequel is on the backburner.”
Another filmmaker who is special to Sallu is Sooraj Barjatya. Their association goes over two decades ago — since his Maine Pyar Kiya days. When Barjatya’s niece Vidhi Kasliwal directed Isi Life Mein, Sallu readily did a cameo in her film.

A decade ago Shahid Kapoor turned vegetarian. He got on to a flight with a book Life Is Fair by Brian Hines (gifted to him by his father Pankaj Kapoor) and when he got off the flight, he never touched non-vegetarian food again. Such was the impact of the book that Shahid even wanted the women he dated to embrace his food habits…
His father, who follows Radha Soami, had been preaching to him for years about the benefits of eating only what is grown in the farms, had no effect on him; but the book converted him. It is written by anauthor for the Indian spiritual organisation, Radha Soami Satsang Beas and it is a karmic justification for vegetarianism. Strangely today, the author who changed the actor’s life does not believe in the same principles that he spouted then.
Hines, who now runs a a blog called Church of the Churchless, says, “Today, I don’t look upon karma and reincarnation as I did thirteen years ago. The only thing I can be certain about is that from this moment until the day I die, I’m not going to be absolutely certain about anything. But here’s the thing: I changed. And I’m still changing. As are we all. Thankfully. Because change only stops when we’re dead. Until then, living leads us in largely unpredictable ways. I’m glad I wrote the book. It pleases me to think that some people have become vegetarians as a result of reading it, or were strengthened in their commitment to remain meatless. Likewise, writing Life is Fair meant a More >

Shahid Kapoor’s pet Kaizer, who the actor has been attached to for nearly a decade, passed away on April 15. A few weeks ago, we had spotted Shahid with his dog at the veterinary specialist’s clinic. Even at that point, he was distraught because his pet’s health was failing. However, for the last four days, the actor has been in a state of depression and has cut off all communication with the outside world. Of course, there is work to attend to but other than that Sasha has been maintaining stoic silences and mourning Kaizer.
Shahid, who lives alone was very attached to his pet and had made it a point to take him to the beach for a game. Or even get him to come and fetch him from shoots whenever he was shooting closer to his home. In fact, he has shot with Kaizer for magazines on several occasions. Our condolences to the actor.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s fascination for Shakespeare’s body of work is well known.
After all, he has adapted not one but two of the Bard’s works on the big screen with Maqbool and Omkara. And sources say the director is all set to base his next on another of the playwright- poet’s dramas. And once again, Vishal has signed Shahid Kapoor for the film.
A source says, “Vishal’s outing (Kaminey) with Shahid last time was a success. However they weren’t on very friendly terms as both had creative differences. Later, Shahid even refused to do Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. But now all’s well between the two.” While some insiders believe that Vishal’s next would be based on Hamlet, some say it could be King Lear.

Shahid Kapoor, who was in South Africa shooting the songs for Phata Poster Nikla Hero, recently got back to Mumbai. And on his return, he was devastated to learn that his pet dog has been keeping very poor health. The distraught actor was spotted at a suburban veterinary clinic and sources said that his pet was suffering from low blood count and has been put on medication. Shahid has put aside everything for a day or so and is monitoring his pet’s health very closely.
