John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan

While the onscreen chemistry that a hero-heroine jodi shares is usually much-talked about in filmdom, it’s no different for the hero-hero jodis either. And these male pairings are creating as much buzz between filmmakers who are looking to get the right combinations for their films. In that the pairing of actors John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan (post Dostana) still is quite a favourite, while John’s pairing with Akshay Kumar is also one that many filmmakers consider, more so after their hit record together (Garam Masala, Desi Boyz) cemented by their film Housefull 2 becoming a Rs100 crore hit.

According to trade insiders, the fact that John and Abhishek clicked together first in Dhoom and then in Dostana makes them a fave pair with filmmakers who are looking forward to casting them together again. And now there’s even more buzz about the two since there seems to be no fix on Dostana sequel. “Many filmmakers are keen to cash in on the excitement around the John-Abhishek jodi. Both the stars are individually coming from the 100 crore league and are riding high, making the pair even more viable in the market,” confirm trade pundits. What’s more, both of them are even known to share a great equation on sets. As for John’s pairing with Akshay, they reveal that it is being considered the safest jodi in B-Town. “All the three films that John and Akshay have done together have been hits, so More >

Hrithik Roshan’s recent award for Best TV Host has also won him praise from other actors and friends

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; October 5, 2011)

Hrithik Roshan was born with a pair of dancing shoes on. Easily one of the best hotsteppers in Bollywood, the trade and junta are of the opinion that when Duggu dances you stand transfixed.

And so it came as no surprise when the superstar was recently judged Best Host for his non-fiction show Just Dance. The show opened to a good TRP of 4.7 and made Saturday night television viewing a compulsion. And in a new research called Characters India Loves, Hrithik won hands down. Sailesh Kapoor, the CEO of Ormax Media, the agency who conducted the research said, “What works for Hrithik is the immense trust viewers have in his ability as a dancer. When it comes to dance, no other star comes close.”

Hrithik’s best buddy Shah Rukh Khan feels that way too. Says he, “Duggu was wary of hosting the show initially, but he’s done such a fantastic job of it. I was on the show for about 20 minutes recently and I could feel the positive energy he infused into it. Duggu is unsurpassable as a dancer.’’

Filmmaker and TV host Karan Johar adds, “Hrithik has an extremely charming demeanour on television. His connection with the participants is absolutely endearing. He has emerged as one of the most popular hosts on Indian television with this show.”

As for Sanjay Dutt, he concedes, “It is dogged determination and hard work that have made Duggu scale new More >

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara opens to packed houses in the metros

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; July 19, 2011)

It’s a Friday Hrithik Roshan will not forget in a hurry. Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara opened to amazing collections in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, and has reestablished the light-eyed actor as one of the most bankable stars in showbiz. The equity of his forthcoming films has now shot through the roof !

The reason Hrithik is smiling is not this. Duggu is happy that his performance in the film has come in for high praise from trade analysts, reviewers and, of course, his coterie of friends. Says trade analyst Vajir Singh, “Few big actors have the confidence to take on films where they are not hogging the show entirely. With this film, Hrithik has once again proved how good an actor he is. His performance is outstanding and his name features high on the list of the five most bankable stars in Bollywood.”

Shah Rukh Khan, who had a special screening of the film at Mannat over the weekend, says, “Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol share screen space with Hrithik, but he is the protagonist. He has the love and the story. He has emoted amazingly with his eyes and his silences convey everything. He’s rivetting, refreshing and looks fabulous too.”

Karan Johar, whose Agneepath will be Duggu’s next release, is also blown over. Says KJo, “For the first time, Hrithik has done a “slice of life” film. His body language and easy dialogue delivery makes you wonder if there is More >
