Ajay Devgn-Kareena Kapoor in Shabina Khan’s next?
0Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; May 13, 2013)
Kareena Kapoor will team up with her Omkara and Golmaal Returns co- star Ajay Devgn once again in Shabina Khan’s film. The designer-turned- producer is apparently in talks with the stars for her next project which is likely to take off next year.
A source says, “Shabina is in the process of signing Ajay Devgn. Details of the film are being tightly kept under wraps but the script has been locked in and a director is being pencilled in. The project will go on the floors early 2014.”
Adds the source, “As Shabina is a close friend of Kareena, she is keen to have her on board and she has given her nod to the project.” The source further adds, “Shabina shares a great equation with Ajay Devgn too. This project might also be co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Although she is also designing for several stars, Shabina now wants to focus on making films.”
Shabina earlier co- produced the Akshay Kumar-starrer Rowdy Rathore with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She is also co-producing Gabber with Akshay Kumar which is the remake of the South film Ramanna.
What’s in a name: Funny & not-so-funny incidents of actors with shared names

FARAH KHAN ALI jeweller designer FARAH KHAN choreographer
Farah Khan Ali, the jewellery designer, recently received a mail about the hotel booking which she never did. “ The identity crisis is a part of life now I have changed my name to Farah Khan Ali and I hope the other Farah Khan changes hers to Farah Khan Kunder! I had to call up the manager of this hotel and tell him that they have sent the mail to the wrong Farah. I also receive bare chested pictures of these hot hunks wanting to act in movies and I keep wondering why I am getting these mails.” Farah Khan, the choreographer turned producer has a different set of problems. She says, “I get these invitations from really top haute couture designs and I know they are not for me. She gets a lot of flowers and gifts meant for me. The funniest thing perhaps is when Shah Rukh sent a sentimental message meant for me to her.”
KUNAAL ROY KAPUR Actor-director KUNAL KAPOOR Actor
Kunaal Roy Kapur and Kunal Kapoor also have had their share of hilarious incidents.
Once Kunal Roy Kapur got a call to judge a college fest. As he was out of town he said he won’t be able to. The caller to his embarrassment then asked if someone else from Rang De Basanti team will be able to make it.
“Instead of explaining them the goof up, I simply told them that none of them are free. This keeps happening every once in a while with me.” The other Kunal Kapoor had once mentioned that he gets a lot of calls meant More >
Kareena Kapoor’s friends say she is forgetful
0BOMBAY TIMES (April 21, 2013)
Two of Kareena Kapoor’s actor friends have had a rather strange experience — Kareena invited them to her home for dinner and then conveniently forgot about the dinner date.
One of them recounted how Bebo enthusiastically makes these dinner invitations to friends, including Amrita Ladak, Malaika Arora Khan, Shabina Khan, etc. But when the day arrives, she neither confirms it with the invitees nor does she follow up with them if they are arriving.
One of her male co-stars feels it is deliberate. But the other one says it’s perhaps a case of amnesia. And that Bebo must have genuinely forgotten. Well, let’s give the Begum the benefit of the doubt. And wait and watch what happens the next time Kareena plans a dinner or lunch date.
Akshay-Katrina to team up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next?
0Shakti Shetty (MID-DAY; January 14, 2013)
Almost everybody has a lucky charm in Bollywood. And looks like Akshay Kumar is once again readying to use his. Buzz is that after doing as many as six films together, Akki will once again work with Katrina Kaif. The film, a remake of South film Ramana, will be co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shabina Khan. South film director M Raja is slated to helm the Hindi version.
The last movie that Akki and Kat did together was Tees Maar Khan (2010).
A source says, “Akshay and Katrina have been probably the most popular hit pair in recent times with blockbusters like Singh is Kinng, Namaste London and Welcome, amongst others. Interestingly, in spite of them doing back-to-back films, they were hardly linked with each other romantically.” However, after the lukewarm response to De Dana Dhan and Tees Maar Khan, they decided to take a break. Akshay moved on with Sonakshi Sinha as his new lucky mascot.
The source adds, “The initial talks are already done and the project is expected to go on floors by the end of the year. Shabina and Akshay were keen that the film should have Katrina once again as their fans would love to see them getting back together on the big screen.” Katrina and Shabina remained unavailable for comment.

Now Rowdy Rathore 2?
0Mehul S Thakkar (BOMBAY TIMES; June 23, 2012)
Basking in the box office success of Rowdy Rathore, the makers of the film have already started planning part two. We’ve learnt the next in the Rowdy series will be a prequel.
A source close to the project revealed, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shabina Khan and Ronnie Screwvala of UTV have already started thinking about a second film in the Rowdy series. The idea is to go back in time and portray the life of Vikram Rathore – the death of his wife and his posting in the village.”
According to the source, the film will probably be titled ‘Don’t Angry Me’ – a dialogue that became famous with the first part.
However, with Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Dheva busy with their ongoing projects, the film will only start next year. “After Prabhu’s Namak, he will go ahead with the second part of Rowdy,” the source added.
I’m rowdy at heart-Sanjay Leela Bhansali
0Sanjay Leela Bhansali on his Friday release, future films and his TV show
Upala KBR (BOMBAY TIMES; June 1, 2012)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s production Rowdy Rathore, mainlining Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha and directed by Prabhu Dheva, releases today. The trailer of his next production, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, directed by his sister Bela Bhansali Sehgal, releases with RR. In August, he will direct Kareena Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in his next. He’s also producing India’s grandest television extravaganza, Saraswati Chandra. In conversation with SLB over chai and chaat…
What prompted you to make a massy, commercial film like Rowdy Rathore? I wanted to make a hit film. As a producer, it’s important to make films that are different from my usual style. I wanted to make a film that would entertain people, and I wanted them to go home loving everything — the songs, the dialogues, the action. RR is not my genre, but I wanted to be part of a film that people like watching. Guzaarish changed my perspective on life, and purged me of my fear of death and sorrow. Now I am in a happy, adventurous zone. I want to do different things.
How did RR happen? My co-producer Shabina (Khan) asked me to see the Telugu film Vikramarkudu on which RR is based. I found the plot wonderfully entertaining, and felt it was a film that needed to be produced in Hindi. I am extremely proud of what we have made. It is entertaining, beautifully-crafted and has great action and songs. My mother More >
Post brawl it’s bonding time for SRK
0Mirror gets you what transpired between former rivals SRK and Akshay during the IPL match between Kolkata and Pune
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 21, 2012)
Not all’s wrong with the current season of IPL. During Saturday’s match between Kolkata and Pune, all heads turned as Shah Rukh Khan walked purposefully toward archrival Akshay Kumar, going on to slap his shoulder in a friendly way. The spectators in Pune looked even more surprised as the two actors sat together, locked in a private conversation that lasted 15-odd minutes.
All thanks to producer Shabina Khan, who had accompanied Akshay for the match. Shabina, we believe, walked up to Shah Rukh Khan to say hello. When Shah Rukh asked her about Akshay, he was told that the actor was only a few seats away. SRK did the unimaginable: he immediately got up and headed toward Akshay.
“This is when all eyes turned,” revealed an eyewitness, adding that Shah Rukh praised Akshay for the promos of Rowdy Rathore. Interestingly, Shah Rukh has had a rather rocky relationship with the film’s producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ever since Om Shanti Om and Saawariya released on the same day two years ago, the duo haven’t exactly been on friendly terms. True, Shah Rukh had congratulated Bhansali after seeing Guzaarish, going on to tell him that Devdas was Bhansali’s best film till date.
Coming at this juncture, Shah Rukh’s camaraderie with Akshay in full view of nearly 50,000 people can be construed as a continuation of the actor’s More >
Akshay-Sonakshi meets the real-life rowdies
0A gang of similar real-life characters selected through a contest will promote the film in their respective cities, along with lead pair Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha
Parag Maniar (BOMBAY TIMES; May 12, 2012)
A nationwide contest to hunt out the roughest rowdies was held as part of a unique marketing strategy by UTV Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali Films. Though tough on the outside, they had to be softies and do-gooders at heart. Cities like Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai and New Delhi were scoured.
“The aim is to get the ‘rowdy gang’ to promote the film with Akshay Kumar, in each city,” revealed a source.
An announcement was made on a radio channel by RJs, calling for “hidden rebels” to be a part of Akki’s gang. Those who succeeded in bringing out pent-up frustration and put it to good use would be winners.
Callers shared their experiences on air. The source said, “The hunt also gave contestants an opportunity to act out their rowdiness. For instance, a notorious member of a residential society kept littering the compound of the building. Tired of this, a resident complained aur usko jo jhada hai… a contestant blasted the litterer and his nonsense came to an end!” Five such characters have been shortlisted from each city and now are part of Akshay’s ‘gang’.
When contacted, Shikha Kapur, Senior VP, Marketing, UTV Motion Pictures, said, “The gang that we have selected across India add colour, drama and muscle to the action-packed events. They More >
It takes 3 girls to replace Karisma
0Amrapali Sharma (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 5, 2012)
It takes three girls to replace one woman. Especially, when the woman is Karisma Kapoor. Prabhu Deva’s search for an item girl in Rowdy Rathore ended up with three item girls, Maryam Zakaria from Agent Vinod, Mumaith Khan of Munnabhai MBBS’ Dekh Le fame and Shakti Mohan, winner of television reality show Dance India Dance Season 2.
When contacted, Prabhu deva confirmed the developments, saying, “Yes, we have shot the song with three talented dancers. Earlier, we were planning with one but then we thought the song will look good even with five dancers. It’s a peppy dance number in a village set up.”
Earlier, Mumbai Mirror had reported that Karisma Kapoor was the first choice for the item song. However, a source close to the film revealed that Kapoor had issues with her costumes for the song in Bhojpuri style so she refused.
“She was recommended by the film’s co producer and her friend Shabina Khan but it didn’t work out,” the source added.
Reportedly, later, Jiah Khan was approached but everyone was surprised by her sudden weight loss when she came for the rehearsals. “Losing her curves was not suitable for the song. After two days of rehearsal, she was dropped by the director Prabhu Deva himself,” the source added.
When asked about Kapoor’s refusal and dropping Khan, Prabhu Deva told this newspaper, “You know, it happens. Things change. There were discussions but sometimes, things don’t work More >
Rowdy Rathore’s satellite rights sold for 35 crs?
0Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 29, 2012)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s last film Guzaarish failed to do too well at the box office. Despite that, the filmmaker’s upcoming project Rowdy Rathore has been sold for a staggering Rs 35 crore, say sources from the trade. Perhaps it’s the Akshay Kumar magic that has worked for him this time around.
This is happens to be the highest that Bhansali has received for any of his films till date. Interestingly, even Akshay Kumar’s films in the past had not generated such a high price. His film Housefull, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala fetched the highest satellite price for the actor so far.
Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Bhansali, who had been in talks with broadcasters over the satellite rights of the film directed by Prabhu Deva, sealed the deal last week.
While UTV’s CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur remained unavailable for comment, a source from the production house confirmed the story. Rowdy Rathore is coproduced by Bhansali, UTV and Shabina Khan.
