Harris Jayaraj’s track proves unlucky for John Abraham

By Subhash K. Jha, April 13, 2011 – 12:31 IST

This is a story that makes you superstitious all over again. A song has brought a big Bollywood blockbuster to its knees. And the producer seething in anger is Vipul Shah who has to repeatedly cancelled the recording and shooting of the song for one reason or another, man-made or otherwise.

What’s with this Southern chartbuster ‘Oeee Re‘ from the Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha that’s proving to be such a stumbling-block for the Tamil film’s Hindi version Force?

To rewind a bit, Harris Jayaraj who had done the hit score for Vashu Bhagnani’s Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein ten years ago had kept away from Hindi films thereafter because of his numerous South Indian assignments…until Vipul Shah coaxed Jayaraj to return to Hindi cinema with Force.

Vipul decided to scrap the entire music score of Kaakha Kaakha by Jayaraj in favour of a completely new soundtrack in Force. So far so good.

But then John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza who play the lead in Force, fell in love with one of the Kaakha Kaakha tracks. ‘Oeee Re‘, it was decided would remain in the remake. Javed Akhtar was given the task of re-writing the Tamil lyrics into Hindi. And the song was to be shot in Kutch this in February.

But a double calamity hit the filming of the song. Kutch was hit by freak rains and worse still Javed was not ready with the lyrics.

Jumping to Javed’s and the song’s defence, Vipul Shah says, “Its true Javed Saab’s lyric was not ready when we were More >

John’s injury won’t delay Force

Despite a recent accident where John Abraham fell on a heap of stones and an injury scare that followed; his Force is well on track. In fact, the film’s producer Vipul Shah states that there won’t be any change in the shooting schedule despite Force being marred with mishaps at regular intervals ever since it was launched late last year.

“Yes, John did meet with an accident but that shouldn’t hamper the progress of Force. We are going ahead with full force. Pun intended”, laughs Shah when questioned if he was now having any nervous bouts due to the recent incident.

Of course Vipul was nervous early on when the incident actually took place a few days back when John had to perform a stunt scene on two moving trains. However, since a major portion of the film has already been shot and Force is well marching towards completion, Vipul is confident that the team would be able to make up for the lost time.

Force is already 90% complete and we would be wrapping up the shooting portions in April. This is pretty much as per what he had originally planned and hence there is no worrying factor”, says Vipul who is happy to have given the reins of direction to Nishikant Kamat of Mumbai Meri Jaan fame.

In fact the filmmaker, whose only other production earlier where he hasn’t been a director is blockbuster Singh Is Kinng, is now devising plans around the film’s marketing and promotion. He is aiming for a release in August/September More >

Yes, I m shifting base to LA-Udita Goswami

Actor Udita Goswami speaks to BT about her Hollywood experience, moving bag and baggage to Los Angeles, Mohit Suri and much more

BOMBAY TIMES (March 9, 2011) Now that you are back from Los Angels, tell us how was the experience? It’s been two days since I’m in India and trust me I already want to go back there. I had a wonderful time.

So was the trip productive in anyway? Absolutely. I was supposed to be there for 21 days but I ended up staying for two months. I had a lot of work lined up for me in India. But when I was invited to the Oscar week festivities, which is a big deal there, I decided to stay on. Honestly, I thought it is a once in a lifetime chance and I shouldn’t miss it. Thanks to my stay there, I met a lot of people from Hollywood, hired a manager, publicist and lawyer. So it was extremely productive.

So are you planning to shift base now? Yes. I have plans of going back there in August or September. I have done my groundwork. I’ve looked at places I could shift to and plan to take driving lessons. My secretary here almost wanted to kill me when I was delaying my return to Mumbai because I was having so much fun there. The only reason that I’m back in India is to work on my American accent.

Considering most of our top actors have failed to make a splash in Hollywood films, why are you willing to take such a risk? For someone like me, who hardly does any work here, I think it’s a good idea to move to LA. The thing that works More >

Kashmera Shah unapologetically flaunts her body

Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; February 26, 2011)

Kashmera Shah has gone super bold for a calendar shoot and flaunted her ‘perfect 10’ body by even going topless. Confident about her curves, Kashmera says, “I have great assets and so I have the confidence to flaunt them. I know that India is very sensitive to nudity. It really excited me to go topless and I told the photographer that I did not want my body to be touched up. I wanted to show people exactly what I have, which I think is beautiful.” The actress informs that she has killed herself to get the fab hot bod that she now possesses. “I have worked out a lot and I have been on diet. I have had raw food through the day. I have killed myself daily from September to January to do the shoot. My friends always know that I will do something out of the box and for this one I have really stretched myself,” says the sex kitten.

The racy calendar titled Kashessentual has been produced by 3rd Rock Entertainment. It will be unveiled at a glamorous party hosted by good friend and socialite Captain Vinod Nair (known for his bashes) on 3rd of March at a city hot spot. The event will be attended by the who’s who of Bollywood, city socialites and industrialists.

Shahid-Priyanka pairing not yet confirmed?

By Joginder Tuteja, February 24, 2011 – 14:15 IST

Is it a professional or a personal decision? One doesn’t know but the fact remains that Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra relationship stays on to be under scrutiny practically every week. The latest is the axe that seems to have fallen hard on the Kunal Kohli film in which the duo was supposed to star together.

“It has been a couple of months since Kunal Kohli announced his next with Shahid Kapoor. In fact this was shortly after his production Break Ke Baad had managed decent business at the box office. Knowing the relationship status of Shahid and Priyanka, he was confident that the lady would consent to the film as well”, says a source.

While Shahid has readily agreed to work on the film, there is still some flip-flop around the girl who would be cast opposite him. Though it was known to one and all that Priyanka has been approached to play the part, the fact that she hadn’t signed on the dotted line always led to speculation.

“It is a ‘kabhi haan-kabhi naa’ relationship between Shahid and Priyanka. Nevertheless, professionals as they are, they won’t allow their personal equation (whether good or not so good) to actually come in their way of making a decision around being cast opposite each other. After all, they are one of the few young ones who are (officially) still single and look good with each other”, says a common friend.

Also, Priyanka is genuinely occupied with Agneepath remake already in progress More >

The acclaimed filmmaker will interpret the Romeo Juliet story with Prateik and the youngest Deol, Hema Malini to produce it

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 11, 2011)

Ahana Deol is all set to make her acting debut this September. Getting her to face the camera is acclaimed director Aparna Sen, known for Mr and Mrs Iyer, The Japanese Wife, and her award-winning debut film 36, Chowringhee Lane.

The new one, produced by Hema Malini, will be an interpretation of the timeless Romeo-Juliet story with Prateik playing a modern-day Romeo to Ahana’s Juliet.

Confirming the developments Hema says, “Aparna has a lovely subject and I’ll be producing it.

She wants to start shooting in September so we need to get everything in place quickly.”

Ahana was supposed to make her debut with Vikramditya Motwane’s Muqablo. But that project has been somewhat delayed. Says Hema, “Ahana agreed to be part of Vikramaditya’s film because he is a friend.

But I think he wants to work some more on the script.”

So what about papa Dharmendra’s diktat that Ahana won’t be acting? The elegant actress laughs it off. “That was just the protective father reacting.

Ahana is a very sensitive girl. Dharamji feels she won’t be able to handle the criticism and the barbs which are an inevitable part of the profession.”

But with almost all the members in the Deol household facing the camera or getting behind it, Ahana, says her mother did not want to be left out. Says More >

Neha Dhupia This stunner is the same babe, who made a stunning Bollywood debut with the Ajay Devgn starrer Qayamat. Further still, she made many hearts flutter and raised the mercury levels with her bold, sensuous act in few films. However, her role in the latest film Phas Gaye Re Obama has made everyone stand up and take notice of this powerhouse of talent.

If that wasn’t enough, this talented actress has a body to kill for. Neha, being the daughter of military personnel has always been someone who More >

Ajay Devgn returns to Santoshi’s Power?

0

After walking out of Rajkumar Santoshi’s next in September last year, the actor it seems had second thoughts

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 22, 2011)

Ajay Devgn, who had walked out of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power is apparently back in the film now. We thought the actor had left the project for good when he quit the project in November last year.

This also caused the film schedule to go completely haywire. In fact, post that the industry was abuzz with rumours that the film was shelved following Ajay’s exit. But all rumours can be put to rest now because this multi-starrer is back on track.

Ajay Devgn (Satish Malavade)

Our source said, “The film was launched with a grand mahurat in September last year and boasted of an ensemble cast of A-listers like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn amongst others. The cast stays the same and Amisha Patel will play the female lead.

Apparently, Ajay walked out of the film earlier, as he did not want to work in multi-starrers.

Added to this were his dates, which were choc-a-bloc with several other films that he had signed in the interim. However, after much persuasion from the producer of the film Firoz Nadiadwala, Ajay returned to the film.

Firoz met Ajay on Thursday evening at Filmistan studios. The actor had gone there to promote his upcoming film Dil To Baccha Hai Ji on the TV show Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa.

Apparently, Firoz offered him another film apart from Power. And for both More >

Salman’s ready for Dabangg 2

But Arbaaz and Abhinav need to get their act together for Dabangg 2

Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; January 7, 2011)

Want to know the asli reason(s) why Dabangg 2 is being delayed? No, it’s not because Salman Khan has no dates. That’s abominable, to think he won’t make time for the sequel of a home production that has been his biggest hit. The truth lies elsewhere. There is huge bidding going on for the film. Two major cinema corporations are locked in battle over who will bag the sequel. One has made an offer for Rs 110 crores, the second is willing to buy the first corporation out, apparently money is not a criteria.

A trade source adds insight into what’s happening, “Arbaaz Khan has been flooded with offers, the latest math is that he has been offered Rs 16 crores for the remake rights, this kind of money is enough to tempt a saint.” However, even as the bids get higher for the sequel that will have Salman, Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz, Malaika Arora Khan, Sonu Sood and Vinod Khanna, the buzz is that the film’s original director, Abhinav Kashyap — whose labour of love Dabangg was, is now acting pricey.

Bollywood sources say Abhinav has been signed by a leading film corporation for Rs 5 crores for his next film. He will be paid another Rs 5 crores during the making. So his market value stands at Rs 10 crores. Obviously, Abhinav now wants a price hike to direct Dabangg 2. And one for the reasons why the sequel is in a limbo is More >

Year of the double‘Ks’-Katrina & Kareena

1

Katrina ended the year as an item number; Kareena reigned supreme as an actress

Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; December 30, 2010)

The year separated the men from the boys. Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Rajnikant showed that they could stand up and deliver. Likewise, 2010 also proved the supremacy of the two Ks — Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, over their lesser contemporaries. Both girls now charge a price equivalent to some of the heroes. Bebo’s advantage over Kat is that she can act. And she has the Khans serenading her on screen. Katrina started the year with a decent performance in Raajneeti (a hit) and ended the year as an item girl. “Her Sheila ki Jawani is the highlight of Tees Maar Khan,’’ says trade analyst Taran Adarsh. As for Kareena, she proved her acting mettle in We Are Family (a flop) but ended the year as one of the heroes of Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3. The film is the fourth highest grosser of all times — 3 Idiots, Dabangg, Ghajini and G-3. “And Kareena is on par with the heroes of the industry,’’ says trade consultant Amod Mehra. “When it comes to the ‘act’ in the actress, Kareena is the best of this current lot,’’ he says. The third K in the business, Kajol, was feted for her performances in My Name is Khan and We Are Family. But her teaming up with her husband Ajay in Toonpur Ka Superrhero is now passé. Deepika Padukone had four flops, Karthik Calling Karthik, Lafaangey Parindey, Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan More >
