I would love to do a Cameron Diaz-Minissha Lamba

Elina Priyadarshini Nayak | TNN (MUMBAI MIRROR.COM; September 29, 2011)

Bollywood hottie Minissha Lamba is mostly seen doing cute and glamorous roles and it seems the actress is quite happy with it.

But ask her why she is away from doing meaningful and meaty roles and she says, “It’s not that I am running away from serious roles and don’t like doing them. I started my career with meaningful role and have done quite a few serious roles too like in Yahaan, then Shaurya and also in Well Done Abba which was Shyam Benegal’s film. So, I don’t think anybody can say that I haven’t done serious films. But, I largely consider myself an entertainer and want to be someone who entertains people. Moreover, serious roles will come my way in right time, but primarily I want to make people smile with my work.” So, what kind of a film the actress would love to do? “I would love to do a role of an action heroine, someone like Cameron Diaz,” says she.

Desi Boyz and Housefull 2 will be runaway hits-John Abraham

Varun Vazir | MM Online Bureau (September 29, 2011)

After giving two back-to-back flops, the dimple-cheeked actor John Abraham speaks to exclusively to MM.com on his upcoming flick Force, about his experimenting with films, what it was like working with Nishikanth Kamat, his reaction to false stories and his lover boy image!

Your last two films (Aashayein and Jhootha Hi Sahi) did not do too well. What are your expectations with Force? We’ve been smart enough to contain the budget of the film which is very important. If the film does well even on the first three days of its release, we are through. Tomorrow you may watch it and tell me that it did not do too well, I don’t know how a film will do. When I do a film, I put in a lot of hard work and am emotionally connected to that film. Films usually fail because of wrong promotions or because they are bad films. I am happy with the kind of job I did in those two films and I am proud of both the films. Since Force is based on a Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha, how different is the treatment from the original?

The treatment is completely different as compared to the original one but we’ve taken the basic idea of the film that there is a ‘no nonsense’ cop who doesn’t believe in love, yet he falls in love with a girl and kills both the gangster and his brother, who kidnapped the girl. There is a linear storyline but no actual similarity except the romantic bit. There have been many cop-based films in the recent past. How different More >

Akshaye Khanna hurts his back

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 29, 2011)

The shooting of Rumi Jaffery’s political satire Gali Gali Mein Shor Hai came to a halt in Bhopal last week when the film’s leading man Akshaye Khanna hurt his back. This halt stretched out to be an indefinitely delay in the schedule of the film with Khanna’s back pain getting worse.

With the entire unit returning to Mumbai, attempts at making the shooting disruption look like a normal break in schedule too went haywire. The shooting has been postponed longer than expected.

Confessing that it was indeed the lead actor Akshaye Khanna’s back that played villain to their schedule, director Rumi Jaffery added, “Akshaye hurt his back and we had to postpone the shooting in Bhopal for three weeks. We are back in Mumbai. But we resume shooting from October 10. By then Akshaye’s back would hopefully be repaired.”

Talking about what led to the back pain that caused such a delay in their schedule, the director added, “It wasn’t an action sequence. Just a normal shot. Akshaye kept shooting. But as the days progressed his pain got worse, probably because he had to do a lot of outdoor shooting on a scooter. Finally it got so bad that we had to stop the shooting and return to Mumbai.”

Sudhir Mishra’s ambitious project has been put on the backburner, while he focuses on another project

Latika Mehta (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 29, 2011)

From its very inception, the industry has been abuzz with speculation over the casting of Sudhir Mishra’s project Mehrunissa. Many media reports claimed that the film would star Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Chitrangada Singh.

But it seems that there is another project that the director is focusing on. When contacted, Mishra told Mumbai Mirror, “Mehrunissa is still in its final drafting stage. The script will be finalised by October end. How can I cast the actors when my script is not ready? I do not work in such a manner.”

While the director dismisses the rumours surrounding Mehrunissa, he told us that he is actually shooting for a film based on sexual harassment at the workplace. “The film is about relationships. It discusses the shift in dynamics between a mentor and a trainee, when power and greed are added to the equation.

The plot uses an advertising firm as a background to highlight the issue. We will wrap-up shooting by next month. The film stars Chitrangda Singh and Arjun Rampal,” added Mishra.

The working title of the film is Inkaar. Deepti Naval and Saurabh Shukla are also a part of the film. Viacom 18 Motion Pictures will release the film by next year.

Sanjay Dutt gifts bike to Ranbir on his bday

Sanjay Dutt, who had once wanted to cast Ranbir Kapoor in his father Sunil Dutt’s role in the remake of Mujhe Jeene Do, has now bought the younger actor a Rs 30 lakh bike

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 29, 2011)

Ranbir Kapoor might have left some of his old friends (read Sonam Kapoor, Imran Khan) behind, but he is sure making some new buddies in B’town. The fourth generation Kapoor lad, who turned 29 yesterday, has found a new best friend in the 52-year-old Sanjay Dutt.

Sanjubaba not only dropped by at the surprise party planned at a Juhu nightspot by Rockstar producer Ashtavinayak to wish the young actor but also bought him a bike worth Rs 30 lakh.

A source informed Mumbai Mirror, “Ranbir and Sanjay Dutt are neighbours. They both live around the same place in Bandra. Also, Dutt has seen Ranbir grow up. They work out together at the same gym in Dutt’s building Imperial Heights. Though Ranbir has his own trainer, he had always looked up to Sanju.”

“When it came to buying a gift for Ranbir, Dutt immediately thought of a bike. Sanju knows how much Ranbir loves bikes,” added the source.

This might make a lot of people in Bollywood wonder why their love for bikes went unnoticed by Sanjubaba. After all, a Rs 30 lakh bike is a dream come true for many. However, one may recall, that Sanjay Dutt’s love for Ranbir goes back a long way.

In a past interview with Mumbai Mirror, Dutt, proclaiming his love for the Kapoor boy had mentioned how the young actor should now More >

Abhay Deol insecure with Emraan’s popularity?

Unhappy with his friend Dibakar Bannerjee for showering attention on Emraan Hashmi during Shanghai, Abhay Deol walks out of wrap-up party

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 29, 2011)

They shared a rapport that went beyond a mere actor-director bond. In fact, people who know Dibakar Banerjee and Abhay Deol are accustomed to the two of them pulling each other’s leg all the time. And so, at the Shanghai wrap-up party, when Abhay suddenly got up and told the director, “I’m leaving. There’s no point me staying on. You’ve no time for me”, everyone thought it was another silly gag the actor was playing on Dibakar. But this time around, it seems that Abhay was not joking.

An eyewitness told Mumbai Mirror, “We all heard Abhay say this to Dibakar and we thought this was an inside joke between them, since they are constantly pulling each other’s leg. But Abhay was serious. He walked out and Dibakar didn’t try to stop him, although he looked surprised.”

This incident has surprised many in industry because Abhay and Dibakar’s friendship dates back to when the two worked together in 2008, in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye. Since the film was Abhay’s first commercial success, the actor always seemed to favour Dibakar and his work. And that is apparently why they decided to work together again in Shanghai.

A source revealed that Abhay’s outburst at Dibakar stems from a lot of pent up tension the actor had with his co-star Emraan Hashmi. “While shooting in Latur and Baramati, the crowds More >

Certain people who have recommended Mausam in a trade magazine are themselves unaware of the same

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 29, 2011)

Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor starrer Mausam hit the theatres on September 23. The project remained in the news for weeks before it’s much publicized release. And now, less than a week after its release, the film is back in news. And this time, for all the wrong reasons.

A trade magazine published on Sunday September 25, 2011 had its pages filled with adverts praising Shahid’s performance and Pankaj Kapur’s brilliance in the recent release. Surprisingly, some of the personalities quoted in those very commercials were not even aware that their names had been used. What’s more, even Shahid Kapoor, the lead actor did not know about the publicity campaign.

A friend of the actor told Mumbai Mirror, “Shahid is flabbergasted. He cannot believe that such a thing has been carried out without even keeping him in the loop. Agar usko thoda sa bhi pata hota, toh use permission definitely nahin diya hota.”

The official spokesperson of the actor added, “Shahid is not aware of these ads. He has been busy with post overseas productions. The producers of Mausam must have put these ads out.”

A source informed us, “At least three prominent personalities who have been quoted in the advert were not informed about it. Some of them learnt about it only on Tuesday, when their friends from the industry called them up. Obviously it was a More >

Tere Mere Phere: Shaadi Ka Season

Yet another wedding film is releasing next week, starring Riya Sen and Vinay Pathak

BOMBAY TIMES (September 20, 2011)

After sharing screen space with Lara Dutta and Minissha Lamba earlier this year, Vinay Pathak romances Riya Sen in Deepa Sahi’s directorial debut, Tere Mere Phere.

Ask him how he gets beautiful actresses to work with him and he says, “I am lucky to be working with them. Riya is so beautiful that one cannot stop looking at her. She is one of the most instinctive actors I know. She switches on just a second before the director says ‘action’. That took me completely by surprise.” Riya says playfully, “He has an easy charm. Others try too hard!”

This wedding-based romcom is like recent hits Band Baaja Baaraat and Tanu Weds Manu. Vinay adds, “It is a wacky and racy film. It is fun but still not a silly comedy. It is a film that everyone can relate to, as roughly half the number of Indians are married and the other half is of marriageable age.”

Riya gushes about her director, saying, “I have done this film for Deepa as much as the chance to work with Vinay. She is a genius to think of our pairing. With Vinay as my co-star, I have mouthed three pages of dialogues in the first shot and given an okay in the first take due to the positive vibes we all shared on the set. Our chemistry adds to the impact of the scenes.”

Their off-screen chemistry too was very much on display at the film’s recent music launch, which had a sangeet theme. Tere Mere Phere is produced by More >

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 29, 2010)

TV actress Rajeshwari Sachdev has delivered a baby boy on May 10.

The actress has been underground since April. Confirming this, Rajeshwari said, “I had gone into a different world. My happiness now is to be seen to be believed. We have named him Devagya,” she laughed.

Four-month-old Devagya is now headed for his first trip and that too out of the country. His mother Rajeshwari is taking him for a trip to chicago. Lucky kid! Says Rajeshwari, “I have to go to Chicago for the Chicago South Asian Film Festival, where my film Seven Days In Slow Motion is going to be screened. It’s a very interesting film, where I play a mother to an eight-year old child.” Preparing for the role, were you? Or did the film inspire the motherhood?

Not only did he gift himself an Audi, the team of Anjaana Anjaani gifted him his favourite ‘Blush’–Ford Vintage

Saumit Singh and Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 29, 2010)

It’s a brand new model and is said to have cost the actor Rs 1.2 crore. The four-wheeler was delivered to his residence Krishna Raj bungalow on Pali Hill on Tuesday morning.

The actor, who had been waiting eagerly outside his house for the car to arrive, wasted no time in zipping off in it for a quick spin around the neighbourhood.

And by the way, the car is a plush two-seater and has a top speed of over 300 kilometers per hour.

And as an icing on the cake, the vintage Ford Classic used in Anjaana Anjaani–a hot favourite of both Ranbir and Priyanka throughout the film and post that too– was especially brought down from the US and gifted to Ranbir by the film’s team.

An eyewitness from the team said, “We had decided that on Tuesday we’d tell Ranbir that it is his birthday gift. And we did. He looked like he had won the biggest lottery in the world”

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala confirms, “There are only three characters in Anjaana Anjaani. Blush(the vintage car) is as important as Ranbir and Priyanka. We decided to make Ranbir’s birthday really special for him. The car means a lot to him.”
