F.A.L.T.U’s Vishnu Vardhan, Chandan Roy Sanyal is on cloud nine after getting rave reviews on his character in the movie. He will also be seen in the Hema Malini’s Tell me O Kkhuda. He feels quite humbled about the fact that not only has he been given this fantastic role, he also gets to share screen space with some of the legends of Bollywood like Dharmendra, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna.

“It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I not only got to see these legends in front of me, who I had grown up watching and adoring, I got to work with them. They were very supportive and I also remember Dharamji telling me how he enjoyed watching me in Kaminey. This was an amazing compliment for me. I had the chance to have some of the most interesting conversations with Vinod sir. While Rishiji was as energetic as always. I hope that I can achieve at least one third of what they have achieved,” he said.

With the reviews Chandan’s been getting, it would look like he’s on the right road.

What is My Friend Pinto all about?

The movie is about this guy called Pinto who comes to Mumbai to look for a friend. He gets lost in the city and the movie revolves around his adventure. The entire movie happens over one night. This is a comedy with a feel good flavour. It’s a film which will make you smile continuously.

The cast is a mixture of veteran actors like Nasseerudin Shah and new actors like Prateik Babbar and Kalki. What is the reason behind this?

Firstly, Nasseerudin Shah is not in the film. This is something which has been printed in newspapers but is not at all true. The cast is Prateik, Kalki, Arjan Mathur, Divya Dutta and Shruti Seth.

It’s a comic film and it needs great actors to perform. The central character meets other people and that’s how the story proceeds. I kept this in mind while choosing my actors. I am very happy with everyone’s performance. Each one of them has done justice to the character.

This is Prateik Babbar’s first lead role. What are your apprehensions and expectations from him?

The only apprehension which I have is audience perception. I know there is a certain section of the audience that really likes Prateik. And Prateik has done an incredible job in the film. I am very happy with him. He has really brought my character to life and I don’t think anyone else could have done it better. So I know I have made the right choice.

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 27, 2011)

It seems that Anushka Sharma is no longer the blue-eyed girl of Yash Raj Films. And it seems that Priyanka Chopra’s cousin Parineeti has taken over. Parineeti, who features in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl, was the latest YRF discovery. Initially, the industry was abuzz with speculation that Anushka would star opposite Boney Kapoor’s son Arjun in Habib Faisal’s next. But now we hear that Parineeti has been considered for the role.

A source told Mumbai Mirror, “YRF has decided that Parineeti is apt for the role. Habib Faisal is also very keen to work with Parineeti. Ditto for Aditya Chopra, who always takes most of the final decisions in YRF. An official announcement will be made in this regard very soon.”

Before she was signed up for Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, Parineeti used to work in the marketing section of YRF Films. However, Aditya Chopra felt she was actress material. “Parineeti is doing an excellent job in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. She has good acting abilities. She fits the role in Habib’s film perfectly,” added the source.

When contacted, the YRF spokesperson said, “Anushka was never an option as the role needs a new girl. No final decision has been taken yet. We shall make an announcement as soon as we finalise the More >

Akki apologised to Jr Bachchan for the uncalled comments made by Russell Peters on his wife Aishwarya

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 27, 2011)

It seems that everyone is taking on the responsibility to apologise for Russell Peters’ potshots at Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s acting abilities.

On September 26, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that Speedy Singhs co-producer, Ajay Virmani, took it upon himself to do some damage control. And now we hear that Akshay Kumar called Abhishek to apologise for the same.

A source revealed, “Akshay said ‘Sorry’ to Abhishek. He respects Aishwarya and the Bachchan family a lot. He is naturally very embarrassed about Russell’s remarks.”

Apparently, Kumar, who made the call last weekend, took Abhishek by surprise. “It was definitely not Akshay’s fault. It was a very kind gesture on Akshay’s part. Abhishek told him to take it easy. After the call, Akshay felt a lot lighter,” added the source.

When previously contacted, Virmani told Mumbai Mirror, “I have no control over what Russell says. What he says is not reflective of our opinion or what the film is all about. Aishwarya is a fantastic actress and a legend.

I apologise for his comments.” Despite repeated attempts, both Akshay and Abhishek, remained unavailable for comment.

The actor has been roped in by producer Farhan Akhtar to fill in for Luke Kenny’s role

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 27, 2011)

The Rock On!! sequel has been talked about at length in the industry. Now, that the sequel has finally materialised, another little secret is out of the bag. Our source told us that the sequel is a journey of the band members to replace the character of Luke Kenny, who dies in the first film. We can tell you that reportedly, this fourth character is going to be played by none other than Sharman Joshi.

A source said, “Sharman Joshi is extremely close to Farhan, since they have been school friends. Earlier, Sharman was offered a role in Dil Chahta Hai but somehow, it did not work out. Farhan has wanted to work with him for a long time. It is only now that things have fallen into place and Sharman is finally a part of the Rock On!! sequel. Though they have not collaborated till date, they have been close buddies. They have always discussed scripts and films with each other.”

Though Sharman has been one of the most promising actors, it has been only after 3 Idiots that he has been getting the right projects.

“People have seen the rushes of Ferrari Ki Sawaari and they can’t believe that it is him. Everyone in the industry has always acknowledged that he was a good actor but what they have seen in Ferrari Ki Sawari is outstanding. This was what helped him clinch the role in Rock On’s sequel.”

Sharman Joshi will also be seen next in Vidhu More >

UTV Motion Pictures and Madhur Bhandarkar have asked ace designer Manish Malhotra to design Rs 1.2 crore worth of outfits for the film’s leading lady, Kareena

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 27, 2011)

We have heard of diva antics, but UTV Motion Pictures and Madhur Bhandarkar take being a ‘heroine’ to a whole new level. For their project Heroine, the production house and the director have decided to allot a whopping Rs 1.2 crore of the film’s budget to costumes.

A source revealed to Mumbai Mirror that the film’s leading lady, Kareena Kapoor, will have 130 costumes designed especially for her by ace designer Manish Malhotra.

The source explained, “Kareena plays a diva at the prime of her career. Each scene will have at least four costume changes. Heroine is an extravagant project and they are leaving no stone unturned to make it look as glamorous as possible.”

Reportedly, Kareena is expected to meet with Malhotra next weekend for dress fittings. And apparently, National Award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar will also be present to oversee the costume trials.

The source also informed us that Rs 5 lakh of the film’s budget was previously spent on costumes that the former leading lady, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, wore, during the nine days that she shot for Heroine. However, all those costumes were of no use, as Kareena is a different size.

When contacted, Manish Malhotra told Mumbai Mirror, “I have never made so many costumes for one actress in my entire career, More >

After bidding goodbye to theatre at 89, thespian Babasaheb Purandare, now 90, will be seen in his first movie role in Hirkani next month

Devidas Deshpande (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 27, 2011)

After facing a packed auditorium night after night, what’s a camera and some studio crew to a veteran thespian? Only, we’re talking about Babasaheb Purandare here. In May, the bard of Maharashtra brought the curtain down on a career that spanned six decades, citing age. He was 89 then.

Apparently, quitting theatre was a decision to make time for new pursuits. Now 90, Purandare will debut in his first movie Hirkani – the story of a woman, who goes to Shivaji’s stronghold Raigad Fort to sell milk but overstays and is locked in and climbs down a 1,200-ft cliff to get home to her child.

Reportedly, Purandare will play his familiar narrator role in his silver screen debut, as he had done for 26 years in Jaanata Raja. When contacted, Purandare, who was in Dubai said, “I did exactly what the director asked me to before the camera. Legends are intrinsic part of the history. Some legends can prove true after evidences come to the fore and Hirkani’s tale is one such legend. We don’t know whether she existed, but her tale is a lasting example of a mother’s love for her child.”

Incidentally, the plot of Hirkani is based on a story written by Purandare himself, approximately 45 years ago. This also happens to be the first time that Purandare’s literary work has been scripted for a film.

Latika Mehta (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 27, 2011)

First she wanted to be a director, then a fashion designer. But it seems that Ahana Deol has finally settled on her third choice of career – acting. While her debut in Bollywood has been talked about extensively, it has taken a long time for Dharmendra and Hema Malini’s daughter to decide on her first endeavour in the industry. However, a source revealed to Mumbai Mirror that Ahana has finally found a launch vehicle in Viacom 18′s romantic comedy, which will be directed by Shoojit Sircar.

The source said, “Ahana was very apt for the role. It is a romantic comedy on a road trip. It is not a typical boy-meets-girl story, but a complex love story where the characters discover themselves during the journey. The film is expected to go on floors early next year.”

Reportedly, the filmmakers are still in search of a male lead. The source informed that Prateik was supposed to do the film, but it didn’t work out due to conflicts with his schedule. Apparently now the filmmakers are looking for a fresh face to complement Ahana.

“The film will definitely create buzz because it’s Ahana’s debut film. The makers are looking for the right male lead. In fact, auditions are in process and a male lead will be finalised by the end of October,” added the source.

Apparently Ahana, born into a film family, has been taking More >
