TEEN THAY BHAI had a disastrous weekend. It collected approx. Rs. 2.30 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup [rough estimates]:- Fri 60 lacs, Sat 80 lacs, Sun 90 lacs. Below the mark!
THANK YOU meanwhile collected approx. Rs. 7.5 cr in its second weekend. Breakup:- Fri 1.75 cr, Sat 2.5 cr, Sun 3.25 cr. Total so far: approx. Rs. 37 cr nett. The dull response to ‘Teen Thay Bhai’ helped ‘Thank You’ marginally, but the overall figures are below the mark. While the single screens contributed to the revenue, the multiplexes remained dull.

Last week’s release THANK YOU collected approx. Rs. 30.5 cr nett in Week 1 [official figures issued by UTV]. Breakup:- Fri 5 cr, Sat 6 cr, Sun 7.5 cr, Mon 3 cr, Tue [holiday] 3.5 cr, Wed 2.5 cr, Thu [holiday] 3 cr. Ideally, given the cast of the film, plus in view of the fact that the film teams the Akshay – Anees Bazmee combo after two Blockbuster Hits, besides the holidays throughout the week, the film should’ve collected at least Rs 50 cr to Rs 55 cr in Week 1. The business is thus below the mark.

THANK YOU collected approx. Rs. 18.1 cr in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 4.85 cr, Sat 5.75 cr, Sun 7.5 cr. Ideally, the film should’ve had at least Rs 25 cr + weekend, in view of the fact that it’s the first biggie of 2011 and also has had a wide release, with plexes performing a good number of shows. The business was better at single screens of mass circuits, but the multiplexes were not up to the mark.

Vidya Balan, besides being a natural beauty, is also known for her associations with social causes. After having endorsed many leading products, Vidya has now been signed as brand ambassador of WWF’s ‘World Earth Hour 2011′, something which Abhishek Bachchan did last year. This year, the World Earth Hour is scheduled to take place on Saturday March 26 between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm.
For starters, Earth Hour 2011 aims to show the actions that people, businesses and governments world-wide are taking to reduce their environmental impact. Thereby establishing and encouraging others to join an interconnected global community engaged in dialogue and resource sharing that generates real solutions to environmental challenges. The highlight of Earth Hour 2011 will see the world’s most iconic landmarks go dark for one designated hour, as hundreds of millions of people transcend race, religion, culture, society, generation and geography, switching off their lights in a global celebration of their commitment to protect the one thing that unites us all – the planet.
With Vidya coming on board with the ‘World Earth Hour 2011′, it only gets brighter by the day!
