Sussanne’s swank design store in trouble with BMC
0The Charcoal Project, owned by Rakesh Roshan and run by Suzanne Roshan, has an illegal loft, partitions knocked down, and an office in the parking lot!
Yogesh Sadhwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 12, 2012)
The Charcoal Project, an interior design store owned by Rakesh Roshan and run by his daughter-in-law Sussanne Roshan, has run into trouble with the law. Located in D Mall, off Veera Desai Road in Andheri, the store has violated several building norms. Among other things, the store has an illegal loft in the basement, partitions that have been knocked down, and is using designated parking space as a storeroom and office.
The store was bought from Dev Constructions by actor-turned-producer Rakesh Roshan. It is now run jointly by Roshan’s daughter-in-law Sussanne, and Abu Jani, Sandeep Khosla and Andrew Martin. Located in the commercial part of New Chandra Housing Society, a redevelopment project that was completed in 2008, it occupies the basement, ground and first floors, in addition to a parking podium.
Its violations were discovered recently when residents of the building complained to the BMC. The civic body inspected the store, found the allegations to be true and served a notice to the store to make amends.
“Some of the violations were done by the developer while constructing the premises, and rest by the store management. The basement, according to the plans, was supposed to be 15 feet high but in reality it is well over 30 feet. Similarly, the store is nothing but More >
Baap of all bash on Big B’s 70th birthday?
0Sneha Mahadevan (DNA; July 27, 2012)
Amitabh BachchanWhat’s a birthday in Bollywood without a big bash? And if it happens to be superstar Amitabh Bachchan, it just goes without saying. And if the birthday happens to be a milestone year, it’s simply out of question that the film industry will let the veteran actor go through it without a celebration.
While the actor himself does not believe in throwing big birthday bashes, speculation is that this year, people close to him are planning to make his birthday on October 11 a memorable one, especially since he turns 70 this year.
Buzz in the industry is that preparation for the bash have already started. Says a source from the industry, “Amitabh is not the kind of person to throw birthday parties, even if it means the start of a new decade. In fact, he always prefers quiet family dinners where a couple of his close friends come over and join him. However, this time people close to him are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that his 70th birthday is a grand one. Close friends, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla (fashion designer duo) are said to be in charge of all the planning, including sorting out the guest list, venue and the food.” The venue apparently is going to be a suburban five-star hotel as it’s going to be an elaborate celebration. The designer duo is also apparently designing something special for Big B to wear on that day.

Aishwarya to wear Indian outfits to Cannes?
0Upala KBR (BOMBAY TIMES; May 23, 2012)
Momma B is going to Cannes once again — but can she pull it off sartorially? While the world debates this, BT has got exclusive information on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s wardrobe for the prestigious film festival. Gone are the high fashion gowns this year.
The Bachchan bahu will be sporting a sari and churidar-kurtas from Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla’s classic collections on the red carpet. Incidentally, Big B’s clan wears the designer duo’s creations to most formal events, and their association goes back over 20 years.
A source close to Ash says, “She has decided to ditch designer gowns and go completely Indian at Cannes. She will walk the red carpet on May 24 and 25. While Abu-Sandeep, Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Shahab Durazi were shortlisted to provide outfits, she finally decided to stick to Abu-Sandeep. The sari is off-white with chikankari work and antique gold embroidery. The churidar-kurtas are in beige and cream and classic Abu-Sandeep. Instead of choosing her usual dark colours, Ash has gone pastel this year.”
The actress apparently deliberated for two weeks before taking the final call on her wardrobe. “The kurtas are long and flowy, with one in the anarkali style. Both have heavy zari and gold work on them. Ash feels that India has so much to offer in terms of beautiful, handcrafted ensembles, so why not show them off to the world?”

Abu and Sandy love spoiling me-Sara Ali Khan
0Saif and Amrita’s daughter Sara Ali Khan models Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s new prêt label with mum
Upala KBR (BOMBAY TIMES; April 21, 2012)
India’s couture kings, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla have just launched their very first prêt label. “It’s our 25th year in fashion, and we wanted to mark it by challenging ourselves to create outfits for a new demographic at affordable prices,” says Khosla.
Needless to say, the collection is aimed at the younger fashionista, and who better to epitomise it than 16-year-old ingénue Sara Ali Khan, the daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. A self-confessed Abu-Sandeep loyalist, Sara has been wearing the designers’ ensembles since she was a baby. Says Amrita, “I’ve known the boys for over 22 years, and they are like family to us. In fact, Sara’s very first AJSK piece was this super cute lehenga they made for her when she was barely a year old. The majority of our wardrobe includes AJSK, and we prize their ensembles as timeless classics. I’ve kept all the pieces they’ve given Sara and me and I intend to pass them on as heirlooms to my grandchildren.”
Sara says that she’s never worn Indian outfits by any other designers thanks to her family’s long association with them. “Abu and Sandy love spoiling me, and not just with their clothes. When they were in London recently, they bought me four pairs of shoes, five white shirts and lots of accessories. I just have to say, ‘Sandy, I really like this’ and he gives it to me! 5 film offers in 3 months for Saif-Amrita’s little girl
0Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 18, 2012)
Mirror had brought you the pictures (Jan 4) of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter Sara Ali Khan’s dazzling debut on the cover of a magazine.
Dressed in richly embroidered threads by fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Amrita and Sara were part of a special story on celebrity mother-daughters, who swore by the designer duo.
While Sara had struck a stunning pose for the media, proud mom Amrita told Mirror at the time that her daughter, who is all of 16, is a particularly bright science student, and like all good students, aspires to be a doctor. She was quick to add though that Sara could well turn out to be a sharp-nosed lawyer as well. “The next two years will be critical for Sara as she will finally decide on her career,” Amrita had said.
However, Mirror couldn’t help but observe that Sara, who has inherited her mother’s good looks and her father’s inherent charm, could well go on to become an actress… And so it is that ever since we carried the story around three-and-a-half months ago, Sara has actually been flooded with plum offers to play the leading lady. Mirror can tell you at least five top filmmakers have called Amrita to ask if Sara can play the heroine in their next film.
Reportedly, Sara is doing a photo shoot today with Abu and Sandeep.
Said Amrita, “Please don’t read too much into this. Sara is doing it for Abu and Sandeep’s new pret line. They are like my brothers. Sara and even I are More >
Teen Patti-Greed or goodness?
0MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; March 4, 2010)
Are you led by goodness or by greed? Isn’t it all about your intentions? Teen Patti, produced by Ambika A Hinduja’s Serendipity Films and directed by Leena Yadav, presents a plethora of emotions. The stylishly mounted film with fabulous production values and a star cast headed by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and international star Sir Ben Kingsley, goes from naughty to nice, at times even from wicked to wise. The riveting screenplay and the unusual plot line provides for edge of the seat entertainment. Bringing us to the all important question again — so is life about good intentions or is it about avaricious actions?
Tossing up our set of aces, BT quizzed top-notch celebrities on the fine line between goodness and greed. Says Bollywood’s macho man Sanjay Dutt, “Being cornered is a state of mind. I look for a different way out. I usually weigh which is a better option — greed or goodness? And, then I choose goodness because greed may look seductive but goodness tastes better.’’ Haute couture specialists Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla analyse this question even further and say, “We try to be good with our greed but are perpetually hungry. For us goodness and greed need to co-exist to keep us on our toes constantly. Greed isn’t a bad thing especially if it’s felt for all things More >

Amitabh Bachchan is everywhere, be it films, playing the pop philosopher in a reality show, ads or fashion shows. The actor has agreed to be the showstopper for close friends Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla at their fashion show on October 11, which is also Amitabh’s birthday. Accompanying him on the ramp will be his Cheeni Kum co-star Tabu.
Amitabh confirmed and said, “Yes, I’m walking the ramp for Abu-Sandeep.”
Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla
Sandeep said, “Mr Bachchan has been wearing our clothes for a long time now and we wanted someone who knows our clothes well. And of course, it never gets bigger than Amitabh Bachchan. Besides Mr Bachchan, Tabu is someone who has been wearing our clothes for long too.
We were keen to have both of them together on our show after Cheeni Kum.” And was it difficult to convince them to do that? “Not at all,” Sandeep said. “Both Amitabh and Tabu immediately agreed.”
