Sharmila Tagore’s royal plans to marry cinema with polo

0

Soumyadipta Banerjee (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 7, 2013)

Sharmila Tagore is putting together a grand plan to celebrate the two abiding passions of the Pataudis – cinema and sport. Mirror has learnt that she is hosting a film festival in London, and a polo tournament as a highlight of the event. This initiative will be played out in Delhi as well as part of the 2nd Seven Islands International Film Festival, which the Pataudis are patronising.

Said Sharmila Tagore, “The Pataudi Cup (the family Polo tournament organised in Bhopal every year) had to be cancelled this year because some of the horses fell sick. However, we (the Pataudi family) have decided to be the chief patrons of the polo matches that will be played as an inaugural event of the film festival that’s coming up.“ Tagore has been named chief patron by the organisers. She says Polo was introduced to the film festival since the late Tiger Pataudi was an avid fan of the sport of the royals.

We hear the Pataudi family – Saif, Soha, Saba and Kareena – will lend their support to the film festival that was launched last year at Cannes. The first edition was held in Chennai last year with the theme – Women Rising, Against All Odds. The polo match will take place on March 9 in New Delhi which will mark the opening of the festival. The match in London will be held on September 14.

Last year, over 45 films from across 18 countries were screened at the festival, along with panel discussions and interactive sessions with More >

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; March 6, 2013)

When Saif Ali Khan dropped by at Bhopal to check on his begum, he was mighty surprised to see none other than Kareena Kapoor at the airport. Bebo has been shooting at Bhopal for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha and has been away from home for a while.

Sources say the actress had decided to surprise her hubby by coming to pick him up at the airport.

Saif reached Bhopal on a Sunday and Kareena had the day off. No surprises that the couple spent most of the day inside Bebo’s room.

A source from the hotel where Bebo is currently staying states, “She had also decided on the menu for the meal they were to enjoy at the hotel. They had dinner together. The actress was glowing when she went to pick the Nawab up.”

On his return journey too, Kareena personally saw Saif off at the Bhopal airport.

The source adds, “The begum knows Saif’s tastes very well. After all, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” According to sources, Saif feasted on kathi roll, seekh kebab, mutton biryani and diet cola while Kareena enjoyed an assortment of cheese chilly toast, brown rice, yellow dal, and bhindi.

Jimmy Shergill on his back injury, comeback films and co-stars on the sets

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; February 28, 2013)

Jimmy Shergill has been working in the industry for more than a decade now and considers the ongoing phase as one of the best and happiest of his career. In a candid chat, the actor shares with us his equation with Tigmanshu Dhulia, Saif Ali Khan and why he has become choosy.

What has been the recent highs and lows in your career? Two years back, I fell ill and was out of action for more than a year. I had major problem in my neck and spine. After I recovered from it I did Special 26 and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns. I also finished my Punjabi film. I have decided to work with certain people. I am also done with doing cameos! I have to be careful slightly regarding my health too which has been playing quite a bit on me.

How did you cope up with your illness? I was working way too hard. I could not even take out time for my honeymoon… I wanted to work on one film at a time but then I would offered another one which I could not turn down. Then my wife told me that I’m burning myself. Adding credibility to her words, even the doctors advised me that I should be less stressed. So I chose to take break and returned signing amounts to many people though I feel that I should have not taken such a long break.

Kunal Khemu and I are moving in together-Soha Ali Khan

Priya Gupta (BOMBAY TIMES; February 27, 2013)

Soha Ali Khan, 34, gets her looks from her mother and nature from her father. Born to a family of super achievers, she has never felt the pressure to compete with them. With her Oxford and London School of Economics education, she is easily considered the most qualified member in her family. Ahead of her upcoming film Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, she opens up to Bombay Times about the strong bond between her mother and her brother, the similarities in her nature with her abba and her plans to settle down with Kunal Kemmu. Excerpts:

You are the youngest in your family. Were you pampered? I felt it more later in life, than when I was young, that I am the favourite of both my parents. I would not drink my milk and I was quite theatrical and would pick up some kind of an instrument and say ‘why don’t you kill me’ and my mother would say ‘I am just asking you to have your milk’. My father never raised his voice with us or with even my mom, who can drive anyone up the wall. She is Bengali, has fire in her blood, is hyper and impatient. She was a heroine of Hindi cinema and so there was nothing as one slap. We would get eight in a row. Bhai (Saif) was the naughty one and knew how to duck, so she would hold him by his hair. My sister and I were angels in comparison. My mother would, in fact, tell us, ‘you are so good, we were not as good when we were your age’. I almost felt it was a complaint and we should have been naughtier. More >

Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; February 22, 2013)

Saif Ali Khan has finally got his girl. Before you jump to conclusions, the girl in question is model and Tamil actress Divya Parmeshwar who will star in his untitled production that will mark the launch of Armaan Jain. Armaan is Kareena’s cousin.

Our source says, “It has been a long search for the team and hundreds of girls were considered. There was too much back and forth when someone suggested Divya’s name.” Down South, Divya has starred in Ponnar Shankar and is known to juggle her film commitments with her modelling assignments. “Her name has been kept under wraps and will be announced soon. The makers wanted to cast a new girl opposite Armaan,” adds the source.

Saif Ali Khan talks to his shoes

0

Seema Sinha (BOMBAY TIMES; February 20, 2013)

Rumour has it that Saif Ali Khan spends more on shoes than on international phone calls! The actor has a roomful of shoes (about 60 pairs about one-and-a-half year back) ranging from loafers to boots to leather formals. And it doesn’t end there, what irks the Begum, his wife Kareena Kapoor further is her husband’s excessive devotion towards his footwear. The Nawab takes personal care and spends a lot of time in keeping each of these pairs tidily to the point of worshipping, almost talking to them. No wonder then Kareena says that Saif treats his shoes like human beings! Perhaps his royal lineage has something to do with his fetish for shoes.

After Agent Vinod’s debacle, Saif wants to play it safe

Saif Ali Khan, who’s admitted to being heartbroken with the fate of his production Agent Vinod at the box-office, revealed that he now intends to play it safe when it comes to his filmi outings. “As an actor I want to focus more on commercial entertainers, films that are massy and not very niche. That’s the space the audience seems to accept me in the best. So as much as I would like to, I think I’ll stay off the niche fare for a while. It will be a compromise, but that’s the price,” says Saif on the heels of his film Race 2 catapulting him into the Rs 100 crore club. However, Saif is ready to take risks when it comes to his production house. “I don’t think I will be starring in any of my productions any time soon. I want to make a lot of smaller movies with other people and I’ll probably launch a new face, give lesser-known talent a chance through my productions,” he adds. “The idea,” he shares, “is to find that balance in doing commercial fare as an actor that may or may not agree with my sensibilities and at the same time find creative satisfaction through the films that I produce which won’t necessarily toe the safe line.” Apart from working on Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Bullet Raja the actor is busy with his production Go, Goa, Gone at present.

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 18, 2013)

Word just in: Saif Ali Khan and wife Kareena have welcomed a brand new member into their family. Before you jump to conclusions, we’d like to tell you it’s their newest possession – a swanky red convertible, currently ensconced in the couple’s garage.

It was on Friday that Saif was spotted at the Andheri RTO office, filing papers related to his latest purchase. Apparently, the Nawab of Pataudi has a weakness for sleek luxury cars, and has an enviable collection of hot wheels acquired over the nearly two decades he has been around in the film industry.

A friend of the actor told Mirror: “Most of the time, Saif drives his new cars himself. Being a true car lover, he maintains and keeps them in top condition.”

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; February 18, 2013)

Saif Ali Khan has sister Soha to thank for landing a role in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s next film Bullet Raja.

According to Soha, while working on Tishu’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, the director mentioned a script that he thought would suit Saif. Apparently the director wanted Saif to sit for a hearing. That’s when Soha decided to approach Saif on Tishu’s behalf.

Says Soha, “Though his Paan Singh Tomar had not released when we were shooting for our film, Tigmanshu didn’t need any introduction. So I went and told Bhai about it.”

The actress says Saif met Tigmanshu and immediately agreed to be part of it. Soha says, “This is the first time he will be working with a director who I have worked with first. Usually, the situation is opposite.”
