The singer, who once lent his voice to Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan, is living a life of penury, singing in dingy bars

Humse ka bhool hui jo ye saza humka mili’, Arshad Warsi’s half-brother, yesteryears’ singer Anwar Hussain, sang 31 years ago in the Rajesh-Khanna starrer Janta Havaaldar produced by Mehmood. Years later, these lyrics could well be the playback for his real life.
Anwar, who once shared the mike with Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, is now reduced to singing in bars, where he barely gets noticed, to keep his kitchen fires burning. On Wednesday, when we met him, he didn’t have work because it was a dry day.
The singer says he is utterly disillusioned. Anwar alleges that not just the industry but his own family has turned a blind eye to his predicament. According to Anwar, Arshad is in no mood to help him either. “Arshad doesn’t take my calls. He replies only in monosyllables on text messages. I asked him for a loan, which would have been a great help, but he shot back with a text, saying ‘Sorry’.”
“Even my sister doesn’t help me. Like Arshad, she too is doing very well in her life. I have a small land in Kasara. But surely, I can’t sell that. What will I be left with then?” he adds.
“I make only about Rs 5,000 per month,” says Anwar, who performs at Star Night bar in Santacruz, among others. Anwar also does some stage shows but they don’t come by as frequently. “I have two More >

A Bollywood Quiz question: Who is the most sought-after Khan in the industry today? If your answer is Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, or Salman Khan, sorry you have got it wrong. The name is Azam Khan. And this Khan, mind you, is being chased by Bollywood for all the wrong reasons.

At the last count, this list had 123 entries.Azam Khan in blue with Pervez Damania, Vinay Pathak and Shashant Shah; (below right) the Q7 Audi Khan drives despite his debts

It is an age-old tradition in cinema for directors and lead heroines to be linked and while the stories are most often true, it can also be a case of their being genuinely good friends. The friendship between Sujoy Ghosh and his pretty Aladin heroine Jacqueline Fernandez falls somewhere in between.
Late Sunday evening tongues started wagging when the two were seen together sharing ice creams at a popular ice cream counter at Bandra. Later Ritesh Deshmukh joined them letting some of the fizz out of the gossip. But once started, the gossip just kept growing till several skeletons tumbled out of the closet.
The unit of Aladin thinks that Sujoy bought Jacqueline a Honda Civic worth nearly Rs 15 lakh. An insider from the sets of Aladin says, “Shuru mein Jacqueline rickshaw mein aati thi. Kuch din baad woh Honda Civic mein aane lagi. Unit mein log kahete hain ki woh Honda Civic Sujoy ne usko leke diya. (Earlier Jacqueline would come in a rickshaw. After a few days, she started coming in a Honda Civic. Unit members are saying that Sujoy has given the Honda Civic to her).”
The latest is that Sujoy has signed Jacqueline for three films. Jacqueline confirmed her three-film contract with Sujoy but added, “We have yet to finalise the details.” In More >
