Behind the Scenes – Thank You
0By Nikhil Ramsubramaniam, April 13, 2011 – 13:06 IST
Last Friday saw the release of UTV Motion Pictures’ Thank You, a multi-starrer comedy directed by Anees Bazmee. The film has been shot at some beautiful locations of Canada. We bring you an exclusive look at all the action that happened behind the scenes of the film with the director Anees Bazmee himself giving a running commentary describing each scene. So over to you Anees bhai…
“This is Akshay’s introductory shot in the film where he escapes some goons by jumping off a building using an umbrella. The building where we shot was close to the sea and we used choppers to get a perfect aerial view of the whole scenery.”
“This is the scene in which Suniel Shetty sees Akshay and Sonam embracing each other. We shot it in Toronto.”
“This scene comes immediately after the ‘Razia‘ song where a drunk girl asks Bobby to kiss her…the famous ‘Kiss-na’ scene. We shot it at Filmistan studios in Mumbai where we had put up a big set for the whole song sequence.”
“This is the scene where Bobby feels that his wife Sonam is having an affair with ‘The King’ (played by Mukesh Tiwari). We were shooting in Vancouver and it was freezing cold.”
“In this shot taken during the filming of the ‘Razia‘ track, I am trying to explain Sonam how to get a particular emotion right.”
“The house you see in the picture is shown as Sonam’s house in the film. This is the shot in which Sonam’s mother (played by Smita Jaykar) tells Akshay that More >
Movie Review: THANK YOU by TARAN ADARSH
4By Taran Adarsh, April 8, 2011 – 08:08 IST
Okay, now here’s the first biggie of the season. Major studio, super-successful director, mega budget, ensemble star cast, lotsa glitz-n-glam… Besides, after the stupendous success of films like WELCOME and SINGH IS KINNG, the Akshay Kumar – Anees Bazmee jodi teams up for the third time, promising to complete a hat-trick of enjoyable laughathons. The expectations, therefore, are humungous.
There’s talk that THANK YOU is an extension of SHAADI NO. 1, NO ENTRY and MASTI, besides the Hollywood film THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH. The commonality is that all these films talk of philandering husbands and extra-marital affairs. But THANK YOU is more of a cat-n-mouse game between philandering husbands and a detective, incidentally hired by both the sides – the husbands as well as the wives. Lots of scope for humor and fun moments, right?
BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA.COMBazmee has successfully followed the magic mantra over the years: Garnish light moments with spice [sex], gloss [panoramic locales], a bit of pulsating action and of course, hip-swinging music. Sprinkle gags and punches. Throw logic out of the window. Pack a number of stars in the enterprise. Voilà! The recipe for a paisa vasool entertainer is ready.
But THANK YOU is as inconsistent as the roads of Mumbai. Sometimes, the ride is as smooth as silk. But there are times when one encounters potholes aplenty during the course of this journey. In fact, like GAME last Friday, More >
Over confident Irrfan gets intro trouble?
0By Joginder Tuteja, March 31, 2011 – 16:53 IST
There is something about Irrfan Khan and his various ways with women. After playing a hopeless lover (Yeh Saali Zindagi) and a sadist wife beater (7 Khoon Maaf), Irrfan is donning a new role for his next film Thank You. In this Anees Bazmee directed comedy around infidelity, Irrfan is playing a middle aged womaniser who believes that he knows women in and out and can have a way with them as and when he desires.
“In the film, Irrfan’s takia-kalaam is – ‘Jitna auraton ko main jaanta hoon aur koyi nahi jaanta’ (no one can read women beater than me)”, informs a friend of Irrfan, “He is over confident about this trait of his and this is what eventually leads to trouble in his marital paradise.”
The trouble here is in the form of Rimi Sen who plays his on-screen wife. While Irrfan tries to Mr. Know All, it is Rimi who he can never understand.
“And one fine day when he understands what his wife is all about, uske pairon tale zameen khisak jaati hai (he is totally taken aback)”, laughs the source, “Along with other male leads in the film (Bobby Deol, Suniel Shetty), he too gets into trouble. The difference here being that he was one amongst the trio who never ever thought that he could ever be caught in the act.”
For Irrfan too this is a unique experience because Thank You is the first time ever when he has let his guards down and acted in an out and out commercial comedy. Add to that the fact that he is shown to be More >
Rimi’s not politically correct girl-Anees Bazmee
0By Joginder Tuteja, March 29, 2011 – 15:19 IST
With a flurry of successes right at the beginning of her career, Rimi Sen was one of the hottest newcomers in town when she was launched by Priyadarshan in Hungama (2003). However, allegations of being outspoken and someone who was seldom diplomatic started making the rounds due to which Rimi Sen was lost in oblivion. This is before Thank You happened that has now enabled her to make a big comeback.
“Rimi was enjoying a dream run back in there in the early part of the decade”, informs an industry insider, “Her line up of films was enviable what with back to back hits like Hungama, Baghban, Dhoom, Garam Masala, Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal in her kitty. The only films that didn’t work for her were Deewane Huye Paagal and Kyun Ki but there too she had the privilege of working with the biggest of stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan.”
The actress even won immense acclaim for her comic timing but surprisingly things started going downhill for her from this point on. No one really knows what exactly transpired but suddenly the industry wasn’t too receptive of her any more.
“She did films like Hat Trick, Johnny Gaddaar, De Taali and Sankat City as well but though her act was appreciated, the films weren’t successful. Also, if one looks carefully, most of these films were small time affairs and hardly gave any impetus to Rimi’s career”, continues the insider.

Vidya Balan’s cameo in Thank You
0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, March 8, 2011 – 18:13 IST
Anees Bazmee’s comic caper Thank You already boasts of a stellar cast comprising of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitly and Rimi Sen. Now also add the charming Vidya Balan to that list.
Vidya may be missing from the film’s promos but she does have a cameo in Thank You, something which the makers wanted to keep a surprise all this while. However it’s not longer a secret. The buzz is that Vidya plays Akshay’s wife in the film and would be seen during certain flashback portions revealing Akshay’s past.
It may be recalled that Akki and Vidya have starred together in two hugely successful films namely Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. One wonders if that was the reason behind casting her in Thank You as well. Whether the Vidya-Akki jodi would prove to be lucky for the team of Thank You is something one will have to wait and watch when the film releases next month.

Akshay, Bobby, Irrfan, Suneil dance with hot babes in Thank You
0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, March 1, 2011 – 16:53 IST
After directing blockbusters such as No Entry, Singh Is Kinng and Welcome, the ‘King of Comedy’ Anees Bazmee is back with his latest comic flick Thank You. The film deals with extra-marital affairs and has an ensemble cast comprising of Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitly and Rimi Sen.
One of the highlights of the film is the chartbusting track ‘Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo‘ which sees the four leading men namely Akki, Suneil, Bobby and Irrfan dancing with some really hot bikini babes. The song itself is a remix version of the yesteryears hit ‘Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo‘ from Feroz Khan’s Jaanbaaz.
The song is set in a night club and has the four actors flirting mischievously with some really sexy international dancers. To spice up the proceedings, the choreographer even came up with a step which sees the actors spanking the dancers on their buttocks.
While Akshay and Irrfan agreed to do the dance step, Bobby flatly refused to spank the dancers on their back side. Says a source from the sets of Thank You, “When Akshay, Irrfan and Bobby were shown the steps for the song, Bobby was very hesitant to do the step. Actually, Bobby is a family man, and refrains from doing any steamy or provocative steps. Even after a lot of coaxing Bobby refused to budge and reasoned out with director Anees Bazmee who finally had no option but to give in to Bobby’s request.” Finally the More >
Thank You Canada schedule goes haywire due to Bobby’s bereavement
0By Subhash K. Jha, October 4, 2010 – 10:53 IST
Personal setbacks and crises often mean losses worth crores for film producers especially if the film is shot abroad. But in the case of Anees Bazmee’s Thank You, where a long schedule in Toronto had to end suddenly because of Bobby Deol’s father-in-law illness and death, the loss runs into not just the production on-hand (Thank You) but also Boney Kapoor’s sequel to No Entry entitled Be Positive.
While Boney has declared his next production would be the sequel to No Entry, Anees shocks by declaring that the script is not even close to being ready.
Says Anees, “While I’ve an idea for the Hera Pheri sequel which I am working on for producer Feroz Nadiadwala I’ve absolutely no idea which way the sequel to No Entry would go. The comedy is the hardest genre to write. And I can’t plunge into a funny film until I’ve the script ready. I’ve just had no time to think about an idea for No Entry Part 2.”
With the Thank You schedule going haywire after Bobby’s abrupt departure from Toronto, Anees is now organizing a schedule in Mumbai to synchronize with the unfinished schedule in Toronto.
Says Anees, “When Bobby had to leave from Toronto we still had one big song and some scenes to be shot. We’ve started the shoot in Mumbai from September 13. The song will come later .”
It was meant to be a big chorus song featuring Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Rimi Sen, Sunil Shetty and Bobby. Organizing the dates of all these actors was More >
