Neil panics during love-making sequence with Priyanka
Aug 12th
By Subhash K. Jha, August 12, 2010 – 11:17 IST
When it comes to love-making scenes, Neil Nitin Mukesh has still a long way to go. So it was discovered when Neil landed up in Coorg last month to play the first of Priyanka Chopra’s seven husbands in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf. During the love-making scene, Priyanka had to put all her acting skills into action to get the shy Neil to perform on par.
Apparently, there are seven love-making sequences for the actress with her seven screen husbands, each of different moods and playing-time.
The love scene with Neil turned out to be somewhat more complicated than he had bargained for. That’s when Neil panicked.
Thorough professional that she is Priyanka, sailed through the love scenes with her other screen husbands. With Neil, there was apparently some awkwardness and much re-takes before, much to Neil’s relief, the shot was okayed.
Neil doesn’t deny the absence of an adequate comfort level with Priyanka. “But that’s because I hardly got to know her before working with her in Coorg. It was like …in and out. We didn’t get to know one another at all. I hardly had time to reach Coorg before we started shooting. There was no time for proper rehearsals.”
Neil can’t help compare his inadequate chemistry with Priyanka to his great rapport with Deepika Padukone during the shooting of Lafangey Parindey.
Lighting up like a cigarette in the dark Neil glows, “Oh, with Deepika it was different. It was just the two of us. We had ample time to know one another before we faced the camera. In Saat Khoon Maaf, I am just one of the seven men in Priyanka’s life. It was almost like Aadmi musafir hai aata hai jaata hai.”
Having said that Neil is all praise for Priyanka and Vishal Bhardwaj. “She is amazing on camera . I just loved watching her give her shots. As for Vishal Bhardwaj just being directed by him is a learning experience.”
Coming back to the love scene in Saat Khoon Maaf, Neil protests, “It isn’t as if I was camera shy. I just didn’t get enough time to get comfortable. I’ve done a love-making scene earlier with Rimi Sen in my first film Johnny Gaddaar.”

Neil smooches Deepika
Jul 25th

Subhash K Jha | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; July 25, 2010)

This is funny. Neil Nitin Mukesh had to kiss Deepika Padukone on screen for their forthcoming film Lafangey Parindey and the actor reportedly got cold feet. Not because he’s a virgin screenkisser and, well, Deepika has the experience of kissing Saif Ali Khan before camera for Love Aaj Kal… but, apparently, because Neil’s had a no-kiss policy in all his films so far. His first director Sriram Raghavan had thrown a fit when Neil refused to kiss Rimi Sen. In his second film, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, director Sudhir Mishra insisted Neil kiss Shahana Goswami. But the actor refused. Even in Jail where there was a love-making scene with Mughda Godse, Neil refused to kiss the sultry actress. But Lafange Parindey director Pradeep Sarkar pulled the plug on Neil’s chastity vow. A source from the set said it was a long, torrid smooch comparable in intensity and duration to the Aamir Khan-Karisma Kapoor kiss in Raja Hindustani. And Neil was nervous! To be kissing the lovely Deepika! Makes us wonder…
Rain, winds disrupt Thank You shooting

Unpredictable climate in Canada messed up the shoot schedule of Thank You; the cast waited for three days before they could shoot
Director Anees Bazmee may have chosen one of the best locations and an ensemble star cast, but he had a bit of a rough ride shooting for his forthcoming film Thank You.
The unpredictable weather played spoilsport, putting the entire shooting schedule in a mess. A crucial scene with the entire cast including Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Sunil Shetty, Celina Jaitly and Rimi Sen was being shot at Telus Science World in Vancouver, Canada. But ‘THE END’ took four long days to be finalised because of the rains and gusty winds hampering the shoot.

A source from the unit reveals, “The entire cast and crew was in Vancouver for a month-long schedule. It was extremely cold but that didn’t stop the actors from successfully managing to shoot their respective scenes. Sometimes if it got unbearably cold, Anees would make use of that time to shoot some indoor scenes. As soon as the weather would be all right he would start shooting outdoors at the chosen locations.”
“We completed shooting all the indoor and outdoor scenes quite smoothly but Anees certainly had a tough time when it came to this particular scene to be shot at the Telus Science World. We were completely dependant on the weather. It was extremely windy the first day so the entire cast and crew waited for sometime but the weather didn’t change. The second and third day it was pouring heavily and the shoot had to be cancelled on both the days. Finally, Aneesji managed to shoot at a location when it was sunny and bright the fourth day,” adds the source.
Anees Bazmee confirms and says, “Yes, the weather did give us some problems while shooting at Telus Science World. Since it was an outdoor shoot and I had to shoot with the entire star cast, I waited for three long days before the weather was suitable enough for us to shoot smoothly.”
Well, Mr Bazmee, don’t bank on any sunny days back home either. The season is turning.

From thrillers, romance, comedy to animation films, UTV has something for all in 2010-11
SHARIN WADER BUTANI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; April 11, 2010)
This is the year of not just sports lovers, but also film buffs. And UTV Motion Pictures has a rocking entertainment plan for 2010-11, starting with Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti based on characters from the Mahabharata. Jha, whose film releases on June 4, says, “They have an understanding team grooved into creative man management, scripting and everything else.” Even Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Aamir Khan’s Aamir Khan Productions have signed up. “We are excited about I Hate Luv Storys starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor that’s releasing on July 2,” says Karan, “Their vision, infrastructure and passion for movies makes them flag bearers for many exciting cinematic possibilities.” While Aamir, who has two co-productions with them in Peepli Live and Delhi Belly, adds, “I have had a long and happy association with UTV in different capacities. It is wonderful to work with them once again.”

The acclaimed Vishal Bhardwaj, who’s also reunites with the production house in Saat Khoon Maaf, admits, “They have the vision to produce films like Dev. D, Kaminey, A Wednesday, Mumbai Meri Jaan and are willing to take a chance on interesting subjects.” Even John Owen is grateful to Ronnie Screwvala and his amazing team of Vikas Bahl and Manish Hariprasad for believing in his project Peter Gaya Kaam Se. UTV has something for kids too. Chillar Party is the work of debutant directors Nitesh Tiwari and Vikas Bahl. Then there’s Paan Singh Tomar — the true story of an athlete who turns into a dacoit. “I think they are a visionary production house. They even funded my research for this film,” says director Tigmanshu Dhulia. Besides the biopic there are two animation films in the pipeline: Arnab Chaudhari’s Arjun: The Warrior Prince, an action-filled mythological saga; and, Soumitra Ranade’s Alibaba Aur 41 Chor which has dialogue by John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. Ronnie and Sanjay Leela Bhansali also collaborate with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in that most anticipated film of the year, Guzaarish. Then there’s No One Killed Jessica, starring Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan. “This is my second film with them. They are one of the best producers in terms of marketing, promotion, distribution, publicity of a film,” says director Rajkumar Gupta. Farah Khan joins the bandwagon with her Christmas release Tees Maar Khan, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Then there’s also Deven Khote’s comedy Phillum City starring John Abraham. Akshay Kumar will once again be seen in Thank You, directed by Anees Bazmee. “Unlike other corporates who put in the money and forget about the project, UTV is involved in the entire process,” says Anees. His film also stars Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Suniel Shetty, Sonam Kapoor, Rimi Sen and Celina Jaitly.
Commenting on the bullish slate, Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures, says, “We have produced some cult and trendsetting films in the past decade and are delighted to be associated with some of the best names to deliver movies that entertain viewers of all ages. We are confident our content will enjoy commercial success and critical acclaim. Hats off to the cast and crew of all our productions, and to our brilliant team that put such a wonderful slate together.”
Movie Review: SANKAT CITY by TARAN ADARSH
Jul 10th
By Taran Adarsh, July 10, 2009 – 10:09 IST
Sometimes, big things come in small sizes…
SANKAT CITY may not boast of stars to lure the audiences, it may not have a colossal canvas [on the contrary, the making is very basic], it may not have a terrific musical score to act as a hook [there are hardly any songs here], but SANKAT CITY succeeds, and succeeds largely, in its endeavour: Make the viewer laugh at the right places.
One walks in with zilch expectations [the promos don't do justice to the product], but when you make an exit from the audi, it’s with the feeling that the 2 hours were well spent.

Comedies, today, can be segregated into two categories — Brain-dead entertainers and intelligent comedies. Films like JAANE BHI DO YAARO, BHEJA FRY and SANKAT CITY fall in the latter category.
Let’s be honest. Not all of us can think whacky or come up with a crazy madcap comedy like SANKAT CITY. It requires a wild and imaginative mind to come up with one and most importantly, execute it with panache. Debutante director Pankaj Advani gets its right on both the counts. Sure, there are glitches in the narrative, but Advani compels you to sit and listen to the story he intends narrating.
Final word? Don't give SANKAT CITY a miss just because the film doesn't star the Khans or Kumars. This 'City' is worth a visit!
Guru [Kay Kay Menon] is a small-time car thief. Ganpat [Dilip Prabhawalkar], who owns a dilapidated garage, is his partner-in-crime. Guru robs cars and Ganpat gives them a make-over in order to sell them for tidy profits.
One night, Guru chances upon a swank Mercedes parked outside a brothel, unattended. He steals the car and takes it to Ganpat. While working on the car, they discover a sum of Rs. 1 crore in it. They are delirious with joy at the unexpected turn of events. Little do they know what’s in store, for the car and the money belong to a gangster/loan shark called Faujdaar [Anupam Kher]. What happens next?
It takes time to get a hang of things, but once the characters and their traits are introduced at the very outset, the goings-on become one joyride. The assorted characters and the way they are integrated in the storyline, as also the way they’re inter-connected, makes the film stand out.
If the first hour is akin to a roller coaster ride that you enjoy to the optimum, it’s the middle of the second half that bothers you. That’s because things stagnate and even get monotonous for a few minutes, before the climax strikes again.
SANKAT CITY is more like a relay. One incident leads to another, so on and so forth and it keeps you involved and entertained for most parts. But the most stunning sequence is reserved in the pre-climax when a bulldozer runs over a bagful of currency. A brilliant sequence!
SANKAT CITY is embellished with super performances by each and every member of its cast. Anupam Kher [terrific], Kay Kay Menon [excellent], Rimi Sen [first-class], Dilip Prabhawalkar [splendid], Chunky Pandey [very good], Manoj Pahwa [effective], Yashpal Sharma [first-rate], Hemant Pandey [perfect], Rahul Dev [good], Virendra Saxena [wonderful], Srivallabh Vyas [nice], Sanjay Mishra [decent]… every actor deserves praise. It’s as if the roles were tailor-made for them.
On the whole, SANKAT CITY is a small little gem that deserves a watch. Yes, there’s a bombardment of new films week after week and chances are that this film may get sidetracked thanks to the invasion of biggies, with the multiplexes sidelining it to embrace the biggies. But here’s a request to all cine lovers and also multiplexes, from this writer. Give this one a chance. Let’s nurture it well, so that genuine efforts like SANKAT CITY don’t go unnoticed

Rimi Sen to put on 160 Kg for SHOWMAN?
Jun 29th
| June 29, 2009 12:01:40 PM IST Sampurn, Bollywood Trade News Network |
Rimi Sen will now soon be seen playing an obese woman in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s upcoming next, SHOWMAN starring Govinda, Celina Jaitley and South star Harish alongside. Rimi has been asked to put on an astounding 160 kg for her role. But well, it seems, most of her weight shall be added up by padding.
About the film, Rimi says, “It will be too early to reveal anything more but I can assure you that the role is very interesting. Most of my time went in just putting on and removing the make-up.”
SHOWMAN is being directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia who has to his credit the critically acclaimed HAASIL and CHARAS. Incidentally, SHOWMAN was earlier titled KING CON and was the same film which was in news for Govinda’s whimsical ways on the sets. Govinda plays a smooth talking con man in the film and both Celina and Rimi play his love interests.
