‘Bholi Punjaban’ of Fukrey, Richa Chadda, is not so bholi

Richa Chadda is facing a lot of confusion as the trailer of her next film Fukrey produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani has resulted in this flutter. Richa Chadda’s character name in the film is Bholi Punjaban; she plays a broker in eastern Delhi as opposed to her last onscreen appearance.

A source says, “People keep asking Richa Chadha after Gangs of Wasseypur how can anyone name her Bholi? Her character in GOW got her a lot of appreciation and lauded for her excellent performance. She was bold, spewing slang words and handling being a gangster wife and mom.

She has been introduced to the world of cinema as anything but Bholi and nowhere is said to be Bholi so people are surprised and she is getting all kind of reactions.” When contacted Richa Chadda simply says, “Bholi Punjaban is different from Nagma as Nagma was a gangsters wife and here Bholi is a gangster. She’s young, ambitious, quirky, hostile and endearing. She is fun and you will expect something every time she will be on screen. Unlike Nagma, she is young and sexy and she knows she is sexy but doesn’t make a deal out of it. In short, she is anything but Bholi!”

Several B-Town celebrities wear their vegetarianism proudly on their sleeves. And Richa Chadda is a staunch veggie, refusing to touch meat even for her film commitments.

For one of the scenes in Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey, the actress had to be shown eating meat. A source from the sets says, “Richa was supposed to gorge on chicken tikkas in one of the sequences. But the actress is a strict vegetarian and the crew had to arranged for soya nuggets made to look like cooked meat.

Sources say the actress is so strict about her eating preferences that she doesn’t even touch eggs.

The source adds, “There was no question of us asking her to eat chicken. The soya was cooked so that it looked just like real chicken.” According to Richa, it was her unconditional love for animals that made her go veggie. She says, “I love animals and I feel a vegetarian diet is the best for any human being.”

Back when she was a 14-year-old, Richa Chadda wanted to meet acting guru Barry John because “he had trained Shah Rukh Khan.” Finally, he took her on as a student and all those years of working hard under his tutelage culminated in Richa’s brush with Bollywood.

Says Richa, “When I was 14, I wanted to learn acting. I had heard he was SRK’s mentor.” The actress last met her coach along with Mira Nair at the premiere of Salaam Bombay.

A source says, “She meets up with her mentor whenever it is possible. Richa is also a part of Mira Nair’s Reluctant Fundamentalist, whose trailer and poster released at the same event.” Speaking about her bond with Mira and Barry, Richa says, “The connection we share is very strong.”

The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2013 on Sunday saw a lot of first timers like Kalki Koechlin, Richa Chadda, Tom Alter, Vidya Malvade, Rajneesh Duggal, author Gregory David Roberts and wife and restauranter Nikhil Chib and wife Natasha. Besides them, the usual favourites — John Abraham, Anil Ambani, Milind Soman, Rahul Bose, Tara Sharma, Ashmit Patel and chef Sanjeev Kapoor — were spotted in their sporty best.

The themes at the marathon, as always, were causes like save the girl child, women empowerment, education, save the environment, support for the physically impaired. However, the recent gangrape incident and the nationwide uprising that followed it, seemed to have been given a miss.

They say no pain, no gain. In spite of a nagging knee injury, Richa Chadda says she will take part in a walkathon on Sunday. The doctors have given her strict orders not to run but looks like the actress is all set to throw caution to the wind.

Richa, who had an accident on the sets on her forthcoming film while performing a stunt, even got operated a month back due to the seriousness of the injury.

A source say, “Richa had been asked not to perform heavy- duty exercises — not even running. She’s been following the doctor’s advice by making sure she doesn’t harm herself in the name of fitness. However, when she recently got an opportunity to be associated with an organisation that works for rehab from addiction of drugs and alcohol, she decided to participate in the 5 km walkathon in the city.”

Turns out covering the distance has become a weekend resolution for the actress and she’s more than glad to be part of the social initiative. “I’m health conscious and avoid stressing myself unnecessarily but these events don’t happen again and again in our city. Clicking a button on social media is one thing and getting out there under the sun to support a social cause is totally another. So, I signed up for it,” smiles Richa.

Richa Chadha and Neil Nitin Mukesh are apparently having a rollicking time shooting for their next film Ishqeria in Mussoorie. And according to our sources, the two actors are apparently dabbling in some ball- play after their day’s work is over.

The two actors are shooting on a school campus and have been playing basketball with some kids from the academy. A source says, “When the actors get bored, they go play with the children. The two end up reminiscing about their childhood days.” The actors are apparently also feasting on noodles and momos in their free time.

Speaking from Mussoorie, Richa says, “I am having a blast. I am having a lot of fun with Neil. We play games, eat together and even go on long walks.”

Contrary to reports, actor Neil Nitin Mukesh hasn’t opted out of Ishqeria, his new romantic film with Richa Chadda. The actor continues to shoot for the movie in the interiors of Mussoorie and has been regularly writing about it on his microblogging page too.

Neil had reportedly left the film because of differences with the director, Prerna Wadhwan, who also makes her debut with this venture. A friend of Neil maintains, “Considering the locations they are shooting at, there were some production issues. Consequently, there were certain creative differences between Neil and Prerna, but that’s part of any teamwork.”

The friend adds that the actor and the director resolved their differences within a few hours and resumed shooting in the hill station.

BOMBAY TIMES (October 9, 2012)

Actor Nikhil Dwivedi visited Delhi’s Tihar Jail to meet the two criminals on whom his next flick, Tamanchey, is based. Eager to meet the inspirations behind his movie, Nikhil approached the jail authorities.

A source said, “Nikhil was curious to meet the two criminals, who fell in love while living life on the edge. Tamanchey is a love story starring Nikhil and Richa Chadda in the lead. The plot is based on the life of the two lovers.”

The source also trashed the Abu Salem-Monica Bedi rumours. “People are under the impression that the film is based on the love affair between underworld kingpin Abu Salem and actress Monica Bedi. That is not true. The movie is about a real-life couple who are currently serving their sentence in Tihar jail.” Nikhil was in Delhi to complete some patchwork for the film recently.

There’s no escaping branding in Bollywood and Richa Chadda experienced her share immediately after the release of Gangs Of Wasseypur. The Delhi girl says she was immediately typecast as someone who should portray strong female characters. In fact, she says that someone “very correctly” told her that she’s become an “arthouse pin-up now”. She adds, “I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing, but it is certainly not something I have encouraged, or something that I mind. I’m still not so experienced to think that I have a certain branding or positioning in the industry.”

But, she is now ready for some change and it starts with a romcom that she has signed with Neil Nitin Mukesh, being directed by debutante Prerna Wadhawan. Confirms Richa, “It’s an untitled romcom, where I play another strong female character, who looks at love in a slightly different way. The writer of the film is also a woman, in fact, my senior from St Stephen’s college in Delhi. I’m very excited to be finally doing something fun and my age, rather than playing Nawaz’s mother!”

When Richa Chadda couldn’t respond to Nikhil Dwivedi during an intimate scene in ‘Tamanchey’, tomatoes came to the rescue

Shakti Shetty (MID-DAY; September 27, 2012)

When the hero and the heroine of yesteryear films kissed, two flowers artfully concealed their intimate moment. Looks like in the present times, tomatoes have replaced the roses. And who’d know that better than Richa Chadda and her co-star Nikhil Dwivedi!

Buzz is that the two actors can barely stand each other’s company. And given that Richa and Nikhil had to shoot for an intimate scene in their upcoming film Tamanchey, the film’s makers decided to invest in some tomatoes. Our source says, “Directed by Bharat Ratan, the film is based on the underworld love story of Abu Salem and Monica Bedi and has Nikhil and Richa playing lovers. And during a lovemaking scene, the actress simply refused to let Nikhil get too cozy with her.

After several takes that couldn’t capture the essence, the filmmaker had to find another way. In the end, tomatoes were bought in to make the scene as romantic as possible without the actors getting too close to each other!” A crewmember states that Richa initially had apprehensions about shooting the sequence. But when the idea of having tomatoes on the sets was explained to her, she promptly agreed.  “It was the first time that she was doing an intimate scene.

She wanted to make sure that the scene was shot aesthetically. But since the intimate sequence wasn’t happening as per the More >
