Viacom18 lays claim on Besharam title?
0Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; February 7, 2013)
Abhinav Kashyap’s big fall-out with the production house Viacom18 Motion Pictures has been widely talked about. Their animosity grew to such levels that the director even walked out with his next project — Besharam — and landed a deal with Anil Ambani’s film company, Reliance Big Pictures.
However, sources say that Viacom 18 has recently staked a claim to the film’s title and has even registered an application to officially own it.
A source says, “Thanks to their differences over budgets and terms and conditions, Abhinav and Viacom parted ways. Ambani’s production house is now producing this Ranbir Kapoor starrer. The first look of the project is out and the title is all over the film’s posters.” In a twist to the tale, Viacom 18 has allegedly now applied for the title of the film at Association Of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers (AMPTPP).
The source adds, “The shoot started in December and the response to the first-look has been good. However in January, Viacom has applied for three titles for clearance — Besharams, Besharam and Besharmi.” An insider from Ambani’s company states, “As far as we know, Abhinav has the title. We have no clue why Viacom is registering the title. It is a known fact that Abhinav and Viacom had issues and their deal fell through.” GP Pande, title executive of AMPTPP, says, “Yes, the title has come to us and we have put up a notice across trade magazines. We will wait for one week to know if More >
Images: Ajay Devgn in Rohit Shetty’s Singham
0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, March 23, 2011 – 16:21 IST
Ajay Devgn is one of the very few men in Bollywood, who practices what he preaches. We will explain how. Ajay, a few days back was chosen as the ‘face’ of Maharashtra Police Department. Well, it seems that Ajay has taken his role very seriously, and this ‘seriousness’ will come all alive in his forthcoming film Singham directed by Rohit Shetty. Even as you are reading this, Ajay is currently in Goa, shooting for Reliance Entertainment’s Singham.
Talking about his role in the film, Ajay said, “It’s a film about men. Singham will mark the return of hardcore raw action to the cinemas with a lot of dialogue-baazi and machismo. It should sock a punch; it will connect to the man on the street because of its simple narrative and terrific action.”
Rohit Shetty on the other hand said, “I have not used a single foreign fighter or imported any foreign equipment for my film. I personally feel indigenous action has a better impact than all the foreign stunts that people are obsessing about these days. As Indians, we identify with our style of raw action, which we have sidelined because some of us have suddenly developed an affinity to the West. To each his own, but for me what works is our own desi action. My hero Bajirao Singham (Ajay) is a simple police officer who is happy to toe the line till he is provoked by baddie Prakash Raj to show his ferocious side. And when Ajay does that, hell breaks loose!”

Ajay’s the new kickass cop in town
0Rohit Shetty’s Singham will see the return of Devgn in a high octane police drama this year
Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; March 23, 2011) After the rocking success of Dabangg, almost every Bollywood superstar is readying to don the cop uniform. Khaki is the most revered colour in Bollywood currently. While Aamir is shooting a suspense thriller on the streets of Mumbai in his policeman’s uniform, Ajay Devgn is scorching the streets of Goa for the adrenaline thumping Singham produced by Reliance Entertainment.
The return of Ajay in his khaki avatar is exciting because he is back to action after an eight-year gap. Says he, “It’s a film about men. Singham will mark the return of hardcore raw action to the cinemas with a lot of dialogue-baazi and machismo. It should sock a punch, it will connect to the man on the street because of its simple narrative and terrific action.”
Director Rohit Shetty, who is at the helm of affairs, has become a force to reckon with in the last five years. His combination with Ajay is also now considered rock solid. This duo has so far delivered four back-to-back hits in the Golmaal series and All The Best. And their return to action is being heralded because both are quintessentially men who speak with their fists.
Says Rohit, “My hero Bajirao Singham (Ajay) is a simple police officer who is happy to toe the line till he is provoked by baddie Prakash Raj to show his ferocious side. And when Ajay does that, hell More >

The action of the film has been designed on an extravagant level. For the very first sequence, the director plans to blow up 20 cars. When quizzed on this particular action sequence, Rohit said, “The scene is set in a parking lot, where a kidnapping takes place. It is a chase scene between Ajay and some gangsters for which we will require to blow up cars. In the shot, there will be about 200 cars out of which we will be blowing up 20 cars.”
The film is being produced by Reliance Big Pictures.

Salman Khan saves the day for Bodyguard team
0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, February 25, 2011 – 15:25 IST
Salman Khan made a heroic entry in a helicopter on the sets of his forthcoming film Bodyguard in Pune. Sallu, who was actually in Jaipur for a charitable event, air-dashed to Pune so that the unit didn’t have to waste a day.
Apparently, on the said day, Salman wasn’t required on the sets since the team of Bodyguard were planning to shoot Kareena Kapoor’s solo portions. However Bebo fell ill and the unit was left wondering what to do the whole day. That’s when Salman being the professional that he is rushed in a private helicopter from Jaipur to Pune so that the crew didn’t have to waste a day.
Narrates a source who was present on the sets, “The shooting had come to a halt since Kareena fell ill and Salman wasn’t expected till much later. A lot of time would have been wasted and nearly 200 people would have been left hanging if it weren’t for Salman’s quick thinking. He air-dashed from Jaipur to Pune and even requested the pilot to halt at the Symbiosis Institute of Management so that time would be saved,”
Producer Atul Agnihotri too confirmed the story, “Salman bhai saved a day’s shooting for us after Kareena fell ill and was advised two days of bed rest. We were canning a song that day and so I didn’t have a supporting cast to fall back on. I requested Salman bhai to return early and he was back by the time we’d finished lunch. And we shot some solo portions with him.”

Will Don 2 shift ahead?
0By Taran Adarsh, January 4, 2011 – 08:34 IST
There’s tremendous speculation about the release date of DON 2. Of course, producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and Reliance Big Pictures had locked 23 December [Christmas weekend] as the release date of the film, since Shah Rukh Khan’s home-production RA.ONE was slated to hit the screens in June, giving a six-month gap between the two releases. But with RA.ONE now arriving in Diwali [that's the buzz in the industry, although SRK hasn't officially announced the release date yet], one wonders whether DON 2 will stick to the date of 23 December.
However, Ritesh Sidhwani denies any postponement of DON 2. “It’s a great period [Christmas weekend], so why should we postpone the film? In fact, we will be through with the filming part in February/March itself. We have ample time to devote to the post-production work and marketing of our film,” Ritesh tells me. But Diwali and Christmas fall in the same quarter, so won’t the promos of the two films create confusion in the minds of the viewer? “I don’t think so. Both belong to different genres, so there’s no question of overlapping,” he clarifies.

Break Ke Baad proves to be profitable venture for its makers
0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, November 30, 2010 – 11:03 IST
Break Ke Baad starring Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone opened to mixed response when it released last Friday (Nov 26). However, the film produced by Kunal Kohli in association with Reliance Big Pictures and directed by debutant director Danish Aslam, seems to be on safe grounds mainly thanks to its correct economics.
In fact the production costs of the film (excluding P & A), 18 crores, had largely been recovered through the sale of satellite and music rights itself and despite the film opening to weekend collections of Rs. 10.5 crore nett, it does seem like a profitable venture for its makers.
Also Break Ke Baad has had some refreshing marketing tie ups, with brands such as Kit Kat, Close Up, Zen Mobile, Venus soaps and Da Milano. These brands have spent money close to the tune of Rs. 2 crores on TV spends in prime slots. The marketing has been innovative, and different, thereby making an impact.
Thanks to its youth appeal, fresh pairing coupled with the right amount of marketing and publicity, the film has even opened to a good response in the overseas market. USA has responded well to the film and Dubai too has received the film well.
Says Priti Shahani of Reliance Big Pictures, co-producer of Break Ke Baad, “It’s true that Break Ke Baad has already recovered it’s production cost, including marketing costs. Being a hype project, the digital rights (satellite, music and video) were sold at More >
