Dreaded gangster ‘Ravi Pujari’ allegedly called Sushma Shiromanee asking her to step down from the forthcoming elections

It’s so sad. After Mumbai Mirror’s August 14 report, Sushma Shiromanee, Vice President, IMPPA (Indian Motion Pictures’ Producers Association), received a second death threat yesterday at 12.06 pm, warning her that if she valued her life, she should step down from the forthcoming IMPPA elections, scheduled for September. The difference is that this time the caller introduced himself as gangster Ravi Pujari.
Two aspirants are contesting the IMPPA elections: T P Agarwal, the current President and Sushma Shiromanee. A shocked Sushma told Mumbai Mirror, “I received a phone call this morning from a man who claimed to be Ravi Pujari. He offered me anything between Rs 50 lakh and Rs four crore, asking me not to contest for the IMPAA chief’s post.”
Sushma ShiromaneeAn ‘or else’ did follow this benevolent offer. “The caller said I will be killed if I did not heed the warning. He said he was acquainted with T P Agarwal. He told me, ‘T P Agarwal ka IMPPA mein rehna unke liye faidemand hoga’,” added Sushma.
Last week, Sushma had filed a complaint at the Khar police station as well as the Crime Branch. She had even met the Home Minister, R R Patil then, who assured her of safety.

Mel Karade Rabba is an earth shattering blockbuster with an extraordinary first week in Punjab and a few stations of Haryana. The collections of the film fell just 20% on Monday from its Sunday collections and the weekdays were rock steady with little falls. The weekend collection was 90 lakhs approx and weekdays added another 85 lakhs approx giving a weekly total of 1.75 crore. The distributor share is 1.15 crore approx
In one week the film has shattered all records for Punjabi films Even lifetime business records of all other Punjabi films have been shattered in just a single week. Both single screens and multiplexes are recording humungous collections.
An indication of the astounding success of the film is that in a C centre Bansal – Baghapurana the Hindi All Time Blockbuster Ghajini grossed 58,000 in week one while Mel Karade Rabba has grossed 1.50 lakhs approx at the same cinema. Infact the first day alone was nearly 34,000 at Bansal Baghapurana. These are just unbelievable collections as Ghajini itself was a huge blockbuster in Punjab.

// // // News that Shah Rukh Khan has had a lunar crater named after him, Shah Rukh Khan Arago B, has turned out to be just a bit of moon shine and nothing more.
It has emerged that a UN Outer Space Treaty explicitly forbids any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the moon or a planet, since they are the common heritage of mankind.
However, an enterprising American entrepreneur from Nevada, Dennis Hope, claimed to have found a loophole in the treaty and has sold everything from real estate to crater names to millions of people around the globe.
His company, the Lunar Geographical Society, was started in 1980 and he is the self-proclaimed head of the Lunar Embassy. In the last 20 Years Hope has made around nine million dollars.
Hope lets users claim their stake over craters by using his his web site www.fullmoonatlas.com to track named and unnamed craters. People pay the price for the crater and then receive a certificate and a picture of the crater they buy.
The Shah Rukh Khan crater is allegedly located in the Southern Mare Tranquillitatis (3.4° N 20.8° E), its diametre is 7.0 kilometers with a depth of 140 metres and has no record of who the buyer is.

After winning accolades in PAA, Amitabh Bachchan will now be seen in two diverse films [RANN, TEEN PATTI], enacting equally diverse roles. While Bachchan enacts the role of a media moghul whose word is considered gospel truth in RANN, he enacts an equally challenging role in TEEN PATTI.
It’s a known fact that Sir Ben Kingsley also plays a crucial part in TEEN PATTI, but there are murmurs that Hollywood heavyweights such as Pierce Brosnan and Richard Gere also appear in cameos. “That’s completely true. There’s no reason why we would keep them under wraps if they were part of TEEN PATTI. But the fact is, they aren’t,” TEEN PATTI producer Ambika Hinduja tells me.
Another news doing the rounds is that the film has gone over-budget, from Rs. 12 cr. to Rs. 20 cr. “Not true again. I’d like to clarify that the budget of the film was never Rs. 12 crores. Also, the film was completed within schedule and there was no question of the budget hitting the roof,” Ambika sets the record straight.

3 Idiots Has 17.50 Crore Nett Fourth Week

3 Idiots has grossed 17.50 crore nett in its fourth week as per early estimates. This is easily a new record smashing the previous record of Lage Raho Munnabhai of 7.75 crore nett.
The four week business of 3 Idiots is now nearly 183 crore nett and the distributor share is 94-95 crore.
3 Idiots should also set a new record for the fifth week which at the moment is 6 crore nett set by Gadar in 2001. This week will see the release of Veer but still 3 Idiots has plenty of screen time at multiplexes. Single screens could show larger falls as Veer will take up most of the good single screens that were screening 3 Idiots.

Shekhar’s Paani is ready to roll in Spain

Shekhar Kapoor flew into Chennai earlier this month to record his first song for Paani, officially flagging off his first feature film undertaking since the sequel to Elizabeth two years ago.
Says Shekhar, “Paani is now completely on. We start shooting in April 2010. We’re at a pre-visualisation stage. And I needed Rahman’s song for that. Since it is located in a futuristic city, I’ve artistes in Los Angeles, Singapore and India creating my city.”
While the film is set in futuristic Mumbai, Shekhar plans to shoot in Spain. “I’ve had a big offer from Spain to shoot the film in their country. They too are fascinated by the water theme. It’s a massive project. Otherwise it wouldn’t interest me.”
The film will star newcomers in the lead. Says Shekhar, “The girl has to be a 17-year old French-Canadian who lives in the Upper City (the posh area) of Mumbai. And the young Indian boy is a desi Leonardo DiCaprio who’s a water revolutionary.”
The film is a forbidden love story. “The girl’s father is the global head of a water company. We need another girl, a smouldering entertainer like Shakira, who’s a big star in the Upper and the Lower City. Then there’s an Oracle called Amma.”

Gangster threatens producer over film

Mumbai: Film producer Ravi Kapoor has received a threat from gangster Ravi Pujari for ‘allegedly’ showing his wife in an objectionable manner in his forthcoming film.
Kapoor has produced a film—World Cupp 2011—which seeks to expose cricket matchfixing and the role of the underworld. One of the scenes shows Pujari’s wife consuming liquor and laying bets on a match. Kapoor said he received a call from the elusive Pujari who abused and threatened him. He wanted all references to his wife to be deleted from the movie, failing which he threatened to eliminate Kapoor.
“My maiden movie is based on real-life incidents and it is shocking that the underworld is now censoring Hindi movies,’’ Kapoor said on Monday. “Luckily, I recorded the telephone conversation so I have proof of the threat. I have complained to the crime branch,’’ he added. Pujari is based in an undisclosed foreign location from where he is conducting his operations, said sources. He was earlier with Chhota Rajan, but is on his own now. He has, in the past, targeted director Mahesh Bhatt and noted criminal lawyer Majid Memon.
The film uses the original names of gangsters like Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan, Ravi Pujari, Chhota Shakeel et al. It also deals with Pujari’s attempt on the life of Bhatt.

Shiney’s lawyers try to pick holes

Mumbai: Shiney Ahuja’s legal team tried to create more holes in his alleged victim’s claim that she was raped between 3 pm and 5 pm in his Andheri house on June 14. The Bombay high court on Wednesday was hearing the bail plea of actor Shiney Ahuja who is accused of raping his domestic help. The court will pass its order on Friday. Though the domestic help claimed to be raped between 3 pm and 5 pm, the records from the phone company showed that she was speaking on her cellphone between 3.15 pm and 3.45 pm, said Shiney’s lawyers Shirish Gupte and Srikant Shivade on Wednesday. The fact that the girl only mentioned the word “atyachar (torture)’’ in her statement on oath before the magistrate and not “rape’’ was also discussed. Justice A P Deshpande asked for the dictionary meaning of atyachar and Gupte said it, in no way, meant rape. But public prosecutor Sangeeta Shinde said the 20-year-old domestic help’s FIR and medical evidence pointed at rape and that atyachar had to be construed in the context of the incident. The judge found it strange that neither the girl’s nor Shiney’s clothes had semen or blood stains on them given that she had worn her clothes “immediately after the alleged forcible sexual intercourse’’.
