Vivek Oberoi signed for Swayamvar Season 3?

Has Vivek Oberoi been signed for Season 3 of ‘Swayamvar’, the reality show at a TV channel that had earlier roped in Rakhi Sawant and Rahul Mahajan for Season 1 and Season 2 respectively?
That’s the buzz going around the B-town for the week gone by. While ‘sources’ (?) have claimed that Vivek is a hot contender for the show, considering his single status and popularity amongst women, the fact is something entirely different. The actor, who has seen a new lease to his professional career post Prince, is in no mood to tie the knot in near future, least of all on a reality show.
“This is as ridiculous as it gets”, fumes Vivek’s publicist, “There is no truth to the entire story and is imaginative as it gets. Earlier there were names like Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni spoken around. Then there were some other lesser names also that came in. Now all of a sudden Vivek’s name has cropped up. It isn’t even funny to be laughed away.”
A ‘news’ like this comes at the time when Vivek is looking forward to his upcoming assignment like Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra, Part I of which is aiming for a September release. After that, there is also a Mani Ratnam film which is pretty much on the anvil.
No wonder, conspiracy theories are being discussed in hush-hush tone. Last 12 months had seen an upswing in Vivek’s career with first Kurbaan and then Prince lighting up the scene for him. Just when the actor had got through the ‘let bygones be bygones’ phase and moved on to concentrate entirely on his work and refused to get into any personal conversations, a news piece like ‘Swayamvar’ stands out like a sore thumb.
While Vivek refused to comment on the entire ‘issue’, one wonders whether his silence has yet again made him a soft target for media as well as industry alike? What can be said for sure though is that there is lot more he can be expected to talk about once his film comes closer to release. After all Ramu’s gritty reel world of Rakta Charitra inspired from real life can be expected to make for a far better outing than ‘Swayamvar’ where the difference between real and reel world could be considerably blurred!

Finally it may not be cricketers, but actors who will get into some daredevilry with Priyanka Chopra. The muchtalked about adventure reality show to be hosted by the Bollywood actress, was to star international cricketers. The first two seasons were hosted by Akshay Kumar. The third season was announced during the IPL and even though the names of cricketers were not revealed, there was buzz that Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh and Aussie cricketers Adam Gilchrist and Brett Lee would be part of it.
A thrilled Priyanka, excited to be associated with some of the biggest names of cricket, had said, “I’ve been a huge fan of this show and I’m so looking forward to starting a new innings on television!” As per plans, she was supposed to be shooting in Brazil’s exotic locations in June. But post the IPL and India’s dismal performance at the T20 World Cup, things changed. The BCCI refused cricketers permission to participate in the show and the TV channel sent a notice to the BCCI.
Considering the stalemate, the channel has now started approaching actors like Rahul Bose, Dino Morea, Sonu Sood, Arya Babbar, and Milind Soman among others. There’s also buzz that Brett Lee, who was signed earlier, might just be part of it too and there are also attempts to rope in Jonty Rhodes.
Akshay to host Top Chef?

Akshay Kumar to host a reality show based on the hit American show Top Chef

After hosting Khatron Ke Khiladi, Akshay Kumar is ready to return back to his first love through a new television show. The chef-turned-actor will host his next reality show, which is on the lines of the American competition show Top Chef.
A source reveals, “Akshay was the face of Khatron Ke Khiladi. But then, suddenly one heard that Priyanka Chopra will be hosting the third season of Khatron Ke Khiladi. In fact, there were rumours that Akshay had suggested her name.
After Priyanka replaced him in the third season of the adventure reality show, Akshay had announced that he would be back on television and that he was considering several ideas. Buzz was that the actor was keen to turn producer with his next TV show.”
“The actor has finalised on the idea of hosting Top Chef. Talks are on with a production house and things are slowly but surely getting finalised. Akshay is currently working out the show details including the changes they need to make in the show format so that the new version suits Indian sensibilities,” adds the source.
Akshay immediately agreed to host this show as it’s a fresh format quite unlike the various dance and music reality shows on television. Contrary to the tough image he is associated with, Akshay will project a far more interactive and friendly image in the new show.
According to the show format, there will be a panel of judges, which might include some actors and also professional chefs, and participants from all across the country.
Akshay is currently shooting for Anees Bazmee’s Thank You in Canada. “The show should start by August first week by when Akshay is expected to work out his dates,” adds the source.
The channel neither confirmed nor denied the news. Akshay Kumar was unavailable for comment.

The American version is currently in its seventh season with hosts Katie Lee Joel and Padma Lakshmi.

Movie Review: BIRD IDOL by TARAN ADARSH

In the U.S., the animation industry has come up with some amazing films. In India, the animation industry is still exploring and grappling to gain a foothold.
. BIRD IDOL, directed by Jyotin Goel, is aimed at the kids primarily, but the story featuring birds, is very Bollywoodish. BIRD IDOL has it all too – lovers eloping, their kid winning a music-based show, his love story, the crooked villain and of course, loads of songs.

I strongly feel that you should view animation films exactly the way a kid approaches it. Just keep your thinking caps aside and chances are, you might fall for its charm. BIRD IDOL has some endearing moments, but despite a running time of approx. 100 minutes, it looks like a lengthy exercise. That’s because the film abounds in songs and some unwanted scenes and since they [the songs] aren’t promoted at all, it reverses the impact created by a few interesting sequences.
Most importantly, does BIRD IDOL offer more than what’s being offered round-the-clock on television vis-a-vis animation shows? Will its target audience [the kids] prefer the animation film over popular animation shows on TV? The answer to both the questions is, unfortunately, negative.
BIRD IDOL creates a fantasy world where the birds of Mumbai are as human as the people who inhabit it. They go to school, watch TV, go out on dates and yes, even watch reality shows, especially the musical show known for making stars overnight – Bird Idol.
However, as of now, the birds still play bird music, full of chirps, tweets and the like. A group of four friends [Hummi, Surili, Chidi and Tuktuk] introduce a sound never heard before in the bird world – human music. The music is a hit among the birds and it catapults Hummi’s group to stardom overnight.
But the judges, old-time establishment musicians, begin to worry. What will happen to them? They hatch a plan to sabotage Hummi and his music before it’s too late. Will they succeed? And what does the introduction of human music mean to the bird world?
The animation quality is top notch and the dubbing is in sync. But the problem is that the viewer doesn’t carry the characters home, like I did when I watched HANUMAN.
On the whole, BIRD IDOL is watchable in parts, but the lack of awareness will make the effort go unnoticed.
Rahul Mahajan’s sis to skip his wedding reception

Poonam Mahajan Rao, who did not attend her brother Rahul Mahajan’s reality show wedding to 21-year old Bengali model Dimpy Ganguly, will once again skip another happy moment in his life.
Rahul is hosting a grand reception at a five-star hotel in Kolkata today, but Poonam will not be a part of the function.
When asked why she did not attend the much-publicised wedding ceremony, Poonam had earlier told Mumbai Mirror, “I prefer to sit at home rather than make a show out of things.” Explaining why she decided to stay away from the reception today, she said, “I will be in Nashik. I have a very important programme to attend.
It has to do with the 60th anniversary of a magazine, which my father (late Pramod Mahajan) used to write for. Mohan Bhagwat (RSS chief) will also be there. After that I have a meeting in Jalgaon for three days. Then I will head to Aurangabad for the municipal corporation election.”
But the speculation over Poonam’s absence from the wedding and the reception refuse to die down. Does she approve of Dimpy? And is she in touch with Rahul? “Rahul is my brother. I will always be there for him. My work related meetings are very important to me because I have a professional life as well. I am in touch with him as well as Dimpy,” said Poonam.
Priyanka continues shooting despite sneezing fit

Recently, while shooting for a reality show, Priyanka Chopra couldn’t stop sneezing and that’s when she discovered that she was allergic to dust. Despite being aware of her allergy, the actress continued to shoot for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf in one of the dustiest locations in Kashmir.
A source reveals, “On Friday morning, the team was shooting in an extremely dusty site in Kashmir, which was making Priyanka uncomfortable. But like a thorough professional, she continued to shoot without complaining about it.”
Fortunately for Priyanka, her earlier sneezing experience has made her a veteran at handling the ‘tickly’ situation. The source continues, “During the break, Priyanka started sneezing. Since she has been through this earlier, she immediately took the necessary precautions. But she didn’t mention her allergy to the director. People thought that it was the cold Kashmir weather, which was making her sneeze.”
Once a sneezer, always a sneezer. “After pack-up, Priyanka headed to her hotel where she got some respite, but the sneezing didn’t stop completely. The next morning, her nose betrayed her again but she was fine after she took care of it,” adds the source.
Priyanka didn’t really think it was a big deal and says, “I believe you gotta do, what you gotta do for your film.”

On the heels of Priyanka Chopra filling in for Akshay Kumar in the third season of television reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi, comes news that a leading general entertainment channel has offered Kareena Kapoor a reality show too. The show, should the actress accept the offer, will reportedly be titled Main Kareena Kapoor Banna Chahti Hoon. And the reigning Bollywood diva will have to travel the length and breadth of India to meet various contestants who aspire for an Bollywood innings.
While the modalities are still being worked out, news has it that Bebo herself is flattered with the concept. And even more flattered with the remuneration being offered. However, she can’t even think of a television debut till late 2011 because she has just started filming RA 1 with Shah Rukh Khan in Goa. Simultaneously, from April 7, Kareena will also start work on Golmaal-3 in Goa. And, on May 20, she is likely to begin Agent Vinod with Saif Ali Khan in Mumbai. In September, Bollywood’s No. 1 actress begins a film with National Award filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar.
Kareena, who was in New Delhi yesterday for with some brand related work, said, “Honestly, between films and endorsements, there is absolutely no time for television.” Adding that she was not at liberty to comment on the news of her being offered the reality show. Kareena said, “I will consider television perhaps after a year-and-a-half or two. I have been offered a television show in the past, too. But I haven’t bitten the bait because my film career is rocking. Television is an option that I definitely find exciting, but I would much rather concentrate on one thing now. So it is films for the moment.”

Akshay Kumar, over the two seasons of Fear Factor, made his mark as the charming host who dealt with the competing girls firmly. Replacing someone as fit and macho as Akshay was not an easy task, but now Priyanka Chopra takes on the mantle of the host for the third season. She will guide and goad 13 cricketers, who will be at her beck and call on the show. This also marks her small screen debut.
A source said, “The channel wanted a new face. That’s when someone suggested Priyanka’s name. Talks have been going on for some time and now it has been made official. Negotiations are also on to rope in some top cricketers for the show. Priyanka was selected as she has made her mark in action roles in films like Don and Drona and is probably one of the fittest actresses in Bollywood today.”
The need for a new host was precipitated after the format of the show was changed. Perhaps the producers of the show hope Priyanka’s chemistry with the cricketers will work for the show. Confirming the development, Ashvini Yardi, the programming head of the channel said, “When you combine Priyanka’s glamour, mass-appeal and athleticism with the energy and adrenaline of the cricketers, you get the perfect equation for a show like Fear Factor.
Akshay took this show to great heights with his inimitable style. So far you people had seen 13 haseenayein with ek khiladi. This season, get ready to witness 13 cricketing khiladis and ek haseena.”
Priyanka, of course, is delighted to take up the challenge. She said, “The show fits in perfectly with my personality. I have been a huge fan of Fear Factor and thoroughly enjoy watching it. I am looking forward to my innings on television. It’s exciting to be a part of a concept which is unique and feature some of the biggest names in cricket.”

Shraddha Sharma and Raja Chowdhury have called off their relationship

Controversial actor Raja Chowdhury and item girl Shraddha Sharma have broken up.
Both of them had been going steady for nearly a year now and were even supposed to get engaged by the end of this month, but things went kaput after Shraddha found Raja cheating on her with two girls. His escapades were caught on camera by the team of a reality show.
When contacted Shraddha Sharma said, “This is shocking for me. It’s all over between us. He is constantly calling me but I don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore.
Many of my friends warned me about getting into a relationship with him, but he always showed how caring and nice he was. He called me and told me that he was under the influence of alcohol but that’s no explanation.”
Speaking about dealing with the trauma Shraddha said, “I guess everything happens at the right time. I am busy doing films down South. One of my films Jeeva has just released and I am shooting for one more film Jaye Ho. I am also doing a couple of reality shows, so life is busy – it will divert my attention from all this.”
