Emraan Hashmi is Cocky
0…And also a Ghanchakkar. Read on to find out why he loves his new nicks

Emraan Hashmi has had three consecutive hits and life couldn’t be better. “I don’t take success or failure too seriously. Although, yes, it is time to celebrate,” he smiles. He has just teamed up with UTV Motion Pictures and director Raj Kumar Gupta for comic thriller, Ghanchakkar.
The actor admits he has met many weird people in his life, but his eccentric character in the film surpasses them all. “What hooked me was that despite the subject being edgy, quirky and out-of-the-box, it is very commercial.”
Writer-director Raj Kumar Gupta says, “It is a cracker of a script.” For Gupta, who has given two hits — Aamir and No One Killed Jessica — Emraan was the perfect choice for the role. “His character is enigmatic. No one can read his mind. Emraan has that quality about him, and is cocky too. Also, he has that aloof urban attitude required for the character,” adds Gupta.
The actor is all praise for the bespectacled director. He says, “Raj is a great storyteller. No One Killed Jessica, was a very well told story. Ghanchakkar is one of the best scripts I’ve read in recent times.”
“Raj goes into minute details. He had all the answers to my questions. I think the film will be a landmark in my career,” he adds. Ghanchakkar is his first film with UTV and it goes on the floors mid 2012.
Vidya Balan in Rajkumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar?
0Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 17, 2011)
Following the announcement of their third collaborative venture Ghanchakkar, UTV Motion Pictures and director Rajkumar Gupta had decided to get Emraan Hashmi on-board to essay the male lead in the film. And now, Mumbai Mirror has learnt that the filmmakers search for a female lead might just be over. Rajkumar’s friend revealed that Emraan's The Dirty Picture co-star Vidya Balan is one of the top names on the list of contenders.
“There are many reasons for Vidya to agree to do the project. First, she is very fond of Rajkumar after they worked together in No One Killed Jessica and since its release he has been pursuing the actress to work with him again. With Emraan playing the male lead in Ghanchakkar, Vidya has another reason to do the film. They worked well as an on-screen couple in The Dirty Picture. Finally, Vidya's friendship with UTV's Siddharth Roy Kapur would be a bonus reason for her to take on the project," explained Rajkumar's friend.
When contacted, Rajkumar admitted his attempts to get Vidya on-board. He told us, "At the moment I am neither confirming nor denying Vidya's role in Ghanchakkar. She is my first choice. It'd be a delight to get her to try out an entirely new genre. She not only jells well with Emraan, but is also apt for the character."
Rajkumar Gupta patches up Bachchans with UTV

The unpleasant Heroine episode is all but forgotten. Though it’s unlikely that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will work with Madhur Bhandarkar in the near future, the process of patching up with UTV, the production house which was to produce Heroine, has begun.
And the man who has unwittingly initiated the healing process between the Bachchans and UTV is the diminutive director Rajkumar Gupta who was very keen from the start on signing Abhishek for the lead role in his next film Ghanchakkar.
Says a source, “There are two protagonists in Ghanchakkar. A male and a female. Abhishek and Vidya Balan were Rajkumar’s first choice from the start. Abhishek fitted the role perfectly. But then he came to know about the differences over Heroine between the Bachchans and UTV. Rajkumar then went to Saif Ali Khan who was also an apt choice for the part. But somehow Gupta had his heart set on Abhishek for the part.”
This is where the Aamir and No One Killed Jessica director took the initiative.
Says a source, “Rajkumar spoke to both the parties and was relieved when they displayed a maturity and professionalism in their attitude. Vidya who is very fond of the Bachchans and her Jessica director also played a part in the patch-up.”
Now Gupta flies to Jaipur where Abhishek is shooting for Bol Bachchan, to finalize the actor.
Speaking with caution, Rajkumar Gupta says, “Yes. I am meeting Abhishek soon. The quirky cocky character in Ghanchakkar is perfect More >
