Rajesh Khanna steps out into the balcony of his iconic bungalow to reassure his fans
MUMBAI MIRROR (June 22, 2012)
Reports that former matinee idol Rajesh Khanna’s health may have worsened have whipped up a frenzy of sorts on television and the Internet, not to mention the mad rush of fans and media persons waiting outside the superstar’s bungalow Aashirwad.
Hence, it was heartening to see ‘the original superstar of Hindi cinema’ step out into his balcony, along with estranged wife Dimple Kapadia and sonin-law Akshay Kumar, to greet the crowds. And while the actor looked weak and frail; a mere shadow of his former self, the victory sign he flashed was perhaps a reassurance that he is better now.
On June 20, we had told you how Khanna had stopped eating and was being attended by doctors every day, and how his family has been by his side throughout. With 15 consecutive super hits in the late sixties and early seventies, Rajesh Khanna earned the distinction of being the ‘first superstar’ of the Hindi film industry. Recently, he appeared in a television commercial shot by adman-turned-filmmaker R Balki.
Yesteryear Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna, who was said to have stopped food intake and fallen critically ill last night, is hale and hearty, according to his son-in-law Akshay Kumar.
Akshay, who is married to his daughter Twinkle, today visited the 69-year-old actor at his residence Aashirwad where he made Khanna wave from his balcony at the mediapersons waiting outside.
His estranged wife Dimple Kapadia was by Khanna’s side.
“He is absolutely fine, healthy and hearty. It was all rumours that he is unwell. On the contrary, he is more than fine. The information that you people have got is absolutely wrong,” Akshay told reporters outside Khanna’s residence.
Khanna’s manager had last night said that the actor is unwell.
Earlier in April, Khanna was admitted to hospital following uneasiness and weakness.
The veteran actor, considered Bollywood’s first superstar, has acted in over 150 films. Fondly called ‘Kaka’ by his fans, Khanna ruled the industry in the 1960s and 1970s with films like ‘Aaradhana’, ‘Anand’ and ‘Bawarchi’.

Dimple is constantly by his bedside, daughter Rinke to fly down
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 20, 2012)
Rajesh Khanna has been battling ill health for quite some time now, and according to latest reports, the former matinee idol’s condition may have worsened. What is heartening to see however, is that in the autumnal star’s hour of need, his family and friends are busy rallying around him, giving him all the love and attention he requires.
A close friend of the actor told Mirror, “He is hardly eating. People around him are pushing him to eat. He has gone extremely weak. Doctors are attending to him every day.”
The friend revealed that Dimple Kapadia, who had separated from the star in 1984, has been by his side all through his illness. She visits him at Ashirwad, his bungalow on Carter Road, every day, to tend to him. The bungalow was being renovated for years, but since April this year, Khanna has been spending more time at the address from his heydays. “Dimple arrives at Kakaji’s (as Khanna is fondly called) place around 1.30 pm and does not leave before 10 pm. It is physically daunting for Dimple, but it is clear she still cares for Rajesh a lot,” said the friend. And he is also very warm and receptive toward her. Recently, he even gifted his daughter Rinke Khanna a BMW. “Actually, he purchased the car from his recent earning for the TV commercial he shot. It was a very sweet gesture,” said the friend.

Erstwhile B-Town superstar Rajesh Khanna, is reportedly terminally ill. He has been in and out of a Bandra hospital for the last year. He recently fell ill again and estranged wife Dimple Kapadia was spotted keeping vigil. Kaka, as he is popularly known, did step out to do a fan commercial endorsement recently with Cheeni Kum maker R Balki. But an insider confirms, “He is far from well.’’
Vinod Khanna, one of Indian cinema’s best looking actors, biggest superstars and an ex-Member of Parliament, is also allegedly ailing.
VK, who quit cinema in his prime to become a disciple of Bhagwan Rajneesh (Osho) is said to be on a poor health wicket but refuses to get hospitalised. VK was spotted twice in March this year; looking dapper in a white cotton shirt and trousers. He came to the prayer meets held for Fardeen Khan’s sister Sonia, and Mona Shourie Kapoor. VK was committed to play Sanjay Dutt’s elder brother in Soham Shah’s Sher. And at the mahurat of the film, one spotted Vinod’s staff checking out Sanju’s costume because he had to make an identical one for the ’70s superstar. We wish both the legends a speedy recovery.
