Bullet Raja’s next schedule in Etawah instead of Rajasthan

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; April 18, 2013)

The unit of Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saif Ali Khan-starrer Bullet Raja yesterday moved to Etawah in Uttar Pradesh for their next schedule. After wrapping up a long shooting stint in Lucknow, the director was keen to shoot in Dholpur in Rajasthan — where he had shot his earlier project Paan Singh Tomar. But the unit instead decided to move elsewhere in UP itself.

Says a source, “Producer Rahul Mittra’s proximity to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as well as Mulayam Singh Yadav helped them get the necessary permissions soon. The Yadavs hail from Etawah. Thanks to their support, they had managed to shoot at various locations of Lucknow as well.”

Mittra confirms, “Etawah was a better option than Dholpur and more importantly we liked the location. So we decided to shoot there instead. Also it is close to Kanpur and Agra and has better connectivity.”

Meanwhile Commando actor Vidyut Jammwal, who replaced Irrfan in the film, too joined the unit in Etawah yesterday. He will be choreographing the action sequences in the film himself.

Irrfan lands announced on the sets of Bullet Raja; plays Holi

Looks like all’s well between Irrfan Khan and director Tigmanshu Dhulia yet again.

The actor, who was forced to opt out of Tigmanshu’s upcoming film Bullet Raja starring Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, landed up on the sets of the film in Lucknow to celebrate Holi. Eyebrows were raised when the actor arrived with his wife Sutapa unannounced, to meet and greet the Bullett Raja ( that extra t now to be numerologically correct!) unit folk.

Says a source, “Irrfan was keen to celebrate Holi and the success of Paan Singh Tomar with Tigmanshu and producer Rahul Mittra. No one had an inkling of his trip and he just landed on the sets. Everyone was taken by surprise. After celebrating Holi, they played cricket and even flew kites. In the night they partied at a five- star till the wee hours of the morning.”

According to B-Town buzz, Tishu was in no mood to wait for Irrfan, who was facing date issues as the shoot was delayed, for the project. He immediately replaced him with newbie Vidyut Jamwal. This came as a surprise as the director had expressed a desire to work with his Paan Singh Tomar and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangstar Returns hero yet again. Though the film headlined Saif, he had specially created a role for Irrfan as he was keen to have him in his project.

Irrfan was apparently taken aback to see the haste in which Tigmanshu had replaced him.

Adds the source, “Irrfan considers Tigmashu his dear friend and there was no way this incident More >

No breaks for Bollywood between exams and IPL

Bollywood isn’t scared of the exam fever nor the IPL, as films line up for release at the box-office in March and April

Iti Shree Misra (BOMBAY TIMES; March 11, 2013)

While the clamour for an Eid release in Bollywood refuses to die down, there’s never a dull moment at the Indian Box Office (BO) anymore. So much so that even the ongoing board exams and the upcoming IPL are not a deterrent for producers to release films. Take for instance the line-up at the BO this year. While films like Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns and Jolly LLB are braving the exam fever, Himmatwala, Chashme Baddoor, Ek Thi Daayan, Shootout at Wadala, Aashiqui 2 and Aurangzeb, are all releasing during the IPL, which begins from April 4.

Producer Rahul Mittra, who has produced films like Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, says that now filmmakers don’t bother about such issues. “As long as people know that my film is releasing on a particular date, and I’m confident that my audience will come and watch it, time of the release doesn’t matter. The market is great and demand has increased for all types of cinema. Plus the satellite rights fetch us good revenue, so the time of release is not much of an issue. People who like to watch good films, will come to watch one, whenever it is released. Also if you remember, Kahaani also released around this time last year and it did fabulously,” avers Rahul.

Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha may be acting in a film together for the first time but from Day One the two stars bonded very well on the sets of Bullet Raja. The unit was recently shooting in Kolkata’s landmark sites. The mercury may have be rising in the City of Joy but Saif kept everyone cool with his pranks.

Says producer Rahul Mittra, “Saif has a great sense of humour and as we were shooting in real locations, it got slightly tough at times. But he kept us all in high spirits. There is a lot of positive energy on the sets when Saif is around and Sonakshi is a great sport too.” Unit sources state the actor plays pranks not only on his costar but also the producer as well as director Tigmanshu Dhulia.

Says the source, “Both Tigmanshu and Rahul are extremely expressive when the shots are taken. Unit hands keep taking their pictures. Saif and Sonakshi cannot stop laughing while watching some of the candid snapshots of both of them. But it is all done as harmless fun.”

Sonakshi Sinha may not have been able to visit her father’s native Bihar yet, but her tryst with Bengal continues. After shooting at picturesque locations in the outskirts of Kolkata with Ranveer Singh and the crew of Lootera, the Dabangg girl is all set to return to the city – and this time to shoot for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s mafia drama, Bullet Raja.

A source close to the crew said: “Tigmanshu had gone to Kolkata to do a recce and has finalised the locations along with the producer of the film, Rahul Mittra. Sonakshi and Saif are supposed to fly in next week to shoot a song. They will shoot on the streets of the city for seven days.”

The first schedule of the film has been shoot in Lucknow over 40 days. This had crucial scenes of the film, with plenty of action. After this, Saif left for his honeymoon. Meanwhile Sonakshi was wrapping up all her other commitments in the city, that included shooting for Himmatwala among other things.

While Saif sports a rustic look in the film with a moustache and short kurtas withsleeves rolled up, Sonakshi will compliment him in a slick, urban avtar.

Incidentally, the film’s cast will have company – Gunday starring Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra too will start shooting there. Seems Kahaani has woken up Bollywood to the charms of the quaint city.

While shooting for a polo sequence in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s sequel to Saheb Biwi…, the actor fell off his horse and injured his left shoulder

Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 16, 2013)

Yesterday evening while shooting a horse riding scene in the capital for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Gangster Returns, Irrfan Khan fell off a horse and injured his left shoulder. An ambulance was called immediately and the actor was rushed to the nearest hospital. Ever since the accident, director Tigmanshu and producer Rahul Mittra have been by Irrfan’s side.

Explaining what happened, an eyewitness told Mirror, “Tigmanshu was shooting at a polo ground in Delhi with Irrfan riding the horse. It was a polo match with loads of other players and a huge crowd was part of the set up. Jimmy Shergill, Mahie Gill and Soha Ali Khan were also present at the shoot.”

Apparently, Irrfan had been training for a day with the horses specifically for this scene. A source close to the actor said, “He did train for a day and was very confident. In fact, even while shooting, he appeared in control. Suddenly, the horse started behaving strangely and flung Irrfan, who fell off the horse and landed on his back. He has injured his left shoulder.”

At the time of going to press, Irrfan was still in the hospital and undergoing MRI tests so couldn’t be reached for comment.

Producer Rahul Mittra reverted to our text message saying, “Yes, there was a small mishap; we are hoping everything is fine and are awaiting More >

Mugdha replaces Neha as item girl in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; January 12, 2013)

Mughda Godse has stepped in instead of Neha Dhupia for the item number in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns. The actress will be shooting for it later this month in New Delhi. After her debut in Fashion, Mughda went on to do a couple of films like All The Best, Jail and Help but none of them exactly helped her make a mark in B- Town. The Pune girl had always stated that she was open to do item numbers and her wish seems to have been fulfilled.

Confirms producer Rahul Mittra, “We have finalised Mughda after Neha expressed her inability to do the item number. Mugdha is a good dancer and she will surely add to the oomph factor required for the song.” As reported ‘ No great shakes’ (Hitlist, January 10), Neha had opted out due to date issues.

The actress had been pencilled in for the shoot in August last year. But the shoot was delayed and now when the makers decided to film it, the shoot schedule was clashing with her other commitments.

Neha’s assignments include Rensil D’Silva’s Ungli and as a mentor in a comedy reality show Nautanki.

Neha opts out of doing item number in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns

Neha Dhupia is no longer doing the item number in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns date issues.

The actress had been pencilled in to add to the oomph factor in the costume drama.

Says a source, “Neha was keen to be part of the sequel, but the dates of the song shoot were clashing with her other commitments. The makers were not willing to adjust the dates as they had already planned a shoot schedule in New Delhi. At the same time she could not adjust her other commitment. As a result the only way for her was to opt out.”

As reported ‘Shake it baby’ (Hitlist, August 20), Dhulia and producer Rahul Mittra were keen to have her perform on the dance track as they did not want any of the cast members to get jiggy for it. The original plan was to shoot it in September in Jaipur but the shoot was delayed till now.

Adds the source, “Neha was always keen to do an item number and had been open to the idea all these years. She may have danced in her films but always wanted an item song to her credit. Her wish however seems to have remained unfulfilled.” Incidentally, Neha had done a dance number in 2008 in the Pakistani film Kabhi Pyar Na Karna that starred Moammar Rana, Zara Sheikh and Veena Malik. However, not many are aware of it.

Jazzy B to render title track of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; January 8, 2013)

Jazzy B has been roped in to render the title track of Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns. The bhangra singer will also feature in the promotional video.

The film is a costume drama shot in Devgadh Baria in Gujarat. The idea to incorporate a peppy track in the revenge thriller was obviously to have a foot-tapping number for the film.

Jazzy B, who was signed for the film over the weekend, will record the track shortly.

Says producer Rahul Mittra, “We wanted a Punjabi kind of a song in the film. The Jugni track of the first part was well received so we decided to incorporate another Punjabi song in the sequel as well.” UK- based Jaswinder Singh Bains, more popularly known as Jazzy B, has released several bhangra albums as well as collaborated on soundtracks.

Kangna Ranaut bags Revolver Rani?

Kangna Ranaut gets into gangsta mode for an upcoming revenge drama

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; November 8, 2012)

Kangna Ranaut is all set to get into gangster mode. The actress has been pencilled in for debutant Sai Kabir’s upcoming flick Revolver Rani that revolves around a female outlaw. The project is being produced by Tigmanshu Dhulia and Rahul Mittra — who earlier made Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster together.

Says a source, “Kangna was recently signed for the film. She will be seen as a gun-toting character in the revenge drama. The film, set in the hinterlands, will have her essay the title role. Considering that she has done the dark ‘ n’ dreary to comedy to chic roles, she feels this will showcase her in new light.” Like Dhulia’s Irrfan- starrer Paan Singh Tomar, this gangster flick will also be shot in Madhya Pradesh.

Interestingly this is the same project for which there was earlier buzz that Tabu was to essay the pivotal role. But it seems that they opted for Kangs instead.

The film’s writer-director Sai Kabir had penned the dialogues in the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Lamhaa and the screenplay for the Shahid Kapoor-Vidya Balan film Kismet Konnection. He was slated to make his debut as director with Chemistry, a film produced by Shreyas Talpade featuring the actor along with Tanishaa and Soha Ali Khan. The film though shot in Paris has yet to see light of day.
