A year after Shamin Desai passed away, his wife Priyanka and producers Percept Picture Company had revived the project left incomplete by the filmmaker. And finally, the project that Priyanka calls “their labour of love” is all set for release. Renamed Rush, the film that was earlier known as Raftaar 24×7 will now hit the theatres on October 26. Interestingly, this will also be Emraan Hashmi’s first Eid release (Bakri Eid).
When contacted, Priyanka sounded happy. “It is a big moment for everybody. It was very sweet of Emraan to give us those dates even on days when he was unwell. The release date has been worked out. This is Shamin’s vision and he had shaped the project. I am sure he will be very happy to see his project materialise and hit the theatres,” she told Mirror.
Lead actress Neha Dhupia shared similar feelings. “The loss of a genius like Shamin is irreplaceable. I know he is watching us and hope we do him proud,” said the actress.
After Shamin passed away, the film got stuck. While many believed that the project has been shelved, his wife Priyanka worked hard to revive it. In April 2012, the Emraan Hashmi – Neha Dhupia starrer was revived. The actors, especially Emraan, who was now a more popular actor with a choc-a-bloc calendar, helped Priyanka complete the film. Three songs were shot in Goa and a few remaining portions were More >

According to the source, Emraan Hashmi has been roped in for YRF’s next, to be directed by Parmeet Sethi, who had earlier made Badmaash Company with the production house.
Emraan is currently shooting for Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz 3. And though the formalities of the YRF venture are still underway, Emraan is apparently quite excited about his role.
YRF spokesperson denied that Emraan was a part of the film and simply said, “Parmeet is still scripting the project.”

0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, January 19, 2011 – 15:16 IST
Yet another Bollywood filmmaker has left us for eternal abode which is indeed very sad news. The person in question is Shamin Desai, whose maiden directorial venture 24×7 Raftaar starring Emraan Hashmi and Neha Dhupia, is yet to see the light of the day. Shamin has also worked with Channel V in the past and directed singer K.K.’s popular music-video ‘Pal‘.
B-town celebrities mourned the death of this talented filmmaker on Twitter. Neha Dhupia tweeted, “really sad to hear about the loss of a dear friend and truly one of the most talented directors i have worked with… Shamin Desai RIP.” Rajat Kapoor also wrote, “Shamin Desai…Here is another young director who passed away! Please!”

Director Shamim Desai passes away
0The young filmmaker Shamim Desai is no more. His claim to fame is his unreleased film Raftaar 24×7 that stars Emraan Hashmi, Neha Dhupia, Aditya Pancholi and Sagarika Ghatke. The flick is lying in cans and has been ready for release since more than a year. However, the producers (Percept Picture Company) are unable to give the film a release mainly due to monetary issues (Nagesh Kukunoor’s Bemisaal, also produced by Percept, is also stuck for the same reason while Percept’s Aashayein and Bumm Bumm Bole released after great difficulty and delay).
Its unfortunate that Shamin wont be there to see the day when his first (and last) film of life hits the theatres. RIP.
Anurag Kashyap tweets about the demise of his young filmmaker, “RIP Shamim Desai.. another good , young, unreleased filmmaker is gone.. atleast now someone can release his film..”
Movie Review: ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI by FENIL SETA
0Most of the gangster films that we have seen in Bollywood have all been inspired from real men of underworld. And when makers of Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai give a supposed indication that the film is a kind of biopic on the 2 famous dons, one might wonder-what will this film show that we haven’t seen or don’t know? And as expected, Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai is to a great extent a been-there-done-that affair. However, still it makes for a riveting watch thanks to the brilliant performances and direction and a lot more factors! More about it later!
The story of the movie: The film is set in Bombay of 70s. Sultan Mirza (Ajay Devgn) is a powerful man but on the wrong side of the law. For the poor, he was messiah; for the cops, he’s a smuggler who should be put behind bars and for the bhai-log of Mumbai, he’s the mediator and advisor. Unlike other goons, Sultan doesn’t believe much in bloodshed and wants peace to remain on the streets of the city. He has found a love interest too, Rehana (Kangna Ranaut), a rising superstar of Bollywood. Enters Shoaib Khan (Emraan Hashmi), a ruthless roadside ruffian who gets included in Sultan’s gang. Little does Sultan know that this could be his most fatal mistake!
The first striking and unique feature that you’ll notice about Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai is Ajay’s brilliant characterization which is so different from the rest of the gangsters we have seen on celluloid. Here’s a man who is so bloody rich but yet is More >

Percept to release Emraan’s Raftaar 24X7 in September
0By Joginder Tuteja, June 1, 2010 – 11:04 IST
The situation isn’t really as bad it seemed. Though there were speculations galore around the delay in release of Raftaar 24X7, the fact is that Percept Pictures is pretty much focused on getting the film into theatres in quick time. Come September and this dramatic thriller with media as a central element would be hitting the screens.
As per the production house, the film is ready with the exception of one song which would be shot this month. The film’s release is planned after Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai, another Emraan Hashmi starrer, which is all set for 30th July release.
Till a few days back there was uncertainty around the arrival of the film. There were doubts if the film would see the light of the day since it was announced quite some time, completed in quick time but not quite followed by any concrete announcements around the release plans. However, as things stand today, Percept Pictures continues to be excited about the prospects of this Emraan Hashmi, Neha Dhupia, Aditya Pancholi and Sagarika Ghatge starrer.
Says Sanjay V. Ahire, COO, Percept Pictures, “After a year full of crisis for the entire industry wherein many projects got stuck because of economic and other reasons, Percept Pictures has successfully managed to release three films in the last six months – Jail, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi & Bumm Bumm Bole. This will now be followed by Mallika and 24X7 Raftaar. Percept Pictures plans to release a More >
Emraan-Neha starrer Raftaar 24X7 shelved?
0By Joginder Tuteja, May 29, 2010 – 11:35 IST
Launched with much fanfare exactly two years back with a budget pegged at 25 crores, Raftaar 24X7 was one of those couple of dozen films which came into existence when the industry was at it’s peak. The term recession had not yet made its presence felt and every reputed production house and actor was more than glad to make huge announcements. There was widespread excitement around the film since a 25 crore budget allocated by Percept Picture Company meant that Raftaar 24X7 was all set to be Emraan Hashmi’s biggest venture till date.
All seemed to be quite well during the earlier schedules of the film as first time filmmaker Shamim Desai joined the principal cast of Raftaar 24X7 in Maldives for a ‘test shoot’. This was one of its kinds experiments as the week long trip worth Rs. 1.5 crore was planned to get the cast and the crew familiar with each other.
Says an industry observer, “Those were the days when good money was flowing into the industry. Corporate houses did everything to entice their actors and create an impression amongst the investors that their film was all set to be a lavish affair. No one could foresee that industry was headed for a doom in the year to follow.”
A major schedule of the film was later shot in Delhi where for the first time ever in his career, Emraan Hashmi featured in a guerrilla shoot.
However, there was not much movement in the interim. As things stand today, both Emraan Hashmi and More >

0TWO FILMS WITH SAME PLOT AND ALMOST SIMILAR TITLES!
This year, two films are set to release and both these film’s stories revolve around news channels and sensationalism. These two films are Percept’s Raftaar 24×7 and Ram Gopal Verma’s Rann. While Raftaar 24×7 stars Aditya Pancholi as the media baron and Emraan Hashmi as his favourite protégé and journalist, Rann has Amitabh Bachchan and Ritesh Deshmukh donning similar roles. And about 1 ½ months back, RGV changed the title of his film to India 24×7! So Raftaar 24×7 and India 24×7-two films with same plot now also have similar titles!
Although RGV is very keen to name his film as India 24×7, he may not be able to do it because ‘24×7’ is patented with NDTV channel. This means even Raftaar would have to drop 24×7 from their title. And how come they registered this title when 24×7 is patented with NDTV?
I loved the title ‘Rann’ a lot actually. The word means ‘war’ in Sanskrit and it suits the film as it is based on the war between news channels for attracting greater eyeballs. In RGV’s film, ‘India 24×7’ is the name of the news channel and that’s why he wanted this title.
Rann (let’s call it by its original name!) surely has a lot of chances to be a big hit. Besides Big B and Ritesh, it also stars Gul Panag, Raima Sen, Paresh Rawal, Mohnish Behl, Suchitra Krishnamurthy, Rajat Kapoor, Sudeep and Rajpal Yadav. Every actor in the film is of the view that Ritesh will surely be the scene-stealer in the More >
