Movie Review: THANK YOU by FENIL SETA

Anees Bazmee, as a director, shot to stardom with Deewangee and No Entry, both films which were terrific entertainers. Bazmee’s next, Welcome, also went a long way in making him the new hotshot director. However, his next 2 films, Singh Is Kinng and No Problem hugely disappointed the viewers although the former did commercially very well. Anees Bazmee movies became synonymous with the illogical haphazard cinema. This hugely affected the prospects of his latest film Thank You. The film already was in danger because its lead actor Akshay Kumar’s prestige has taken a beating with his recent films and also the promos sadly haven’t excited the viewers. But surprise! Thank You works and brings a smile! Bazmee seems to have finally abandoned his slapdash direction and comes up with a pretty neat entertainer!

The story of the movie: Raj (Bobby Deol), Yogi (Suniel Shetty) and Vikram (Irrfan) are based in Toronto. They are friends, business partners and also share common obsession-cheating on their wives. Yogi’s wife Maya (Celina Jaitly) had caught him red-handed with a girl and hence Raj and Vikram’s wife, Sanjana (Sonam Kapoor) and Maya (Rimi Sen) are also suspicious of their hubbies, especially Sanjana. Hence, she hires a detective Kishan (Akshay Kumar) to find out the truth. Kishan is known for bringing erring husbands on the line but in this particular case, he finds it difficult to do his job as the trio is very smart in fooling their wives. Moreover, More >

Movie Review: THANK YOU by TARAN ADARSH

Okay, now here’s the first biggie of the season. Major studio, super-successful director, mega budget, ensemble star cast, lotsa glitz-n-glam… Besides, after the stupendous success of films like WELCOME and SINGH IS KINNG, the Akshay Kumar – Anees Bazmee jodi teams up for the third time, promising to complete a hat-trick of enjoyable laughathons. The expectations, therefore, are humungous.

There’s talk that THANK YOU is an extension of SHAADI NO. 1, NO ENTRY and MASTI, besides the Hollywood film THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH. The commonality is that all these films talk of philandering husbands and extra-marital affairs. But THANK YOU is more of a cat-n-mouse game between philandering husbands and a detective, incidentally hired by both the sides – the husbands as well as the wives. Lots of scope for humor and fun moments, right?

BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA.COM

Bazmee has successfully followed the magic mantra over the years: Garnish light moments with spice [sex], gloss [panoramic locales], a bit of pulsating action and of course, hip-swinging music. Sprinkle gags and punches. Throw logic out of the window. Pack a number of stars in the enterprise. Voilà! The recipe for a paisa vasool entertainer is ready.

But THANK YOU is as inconsistent as the roads of Mumbai. Sometimes, the ride is as smooth as silk. But there are times when one encounters potholes aplenty during the course of this journey. In fact, like GAME last Friday, More >

Baadshah Khan proved once again who is the real King of tinsel town by hijacking what was meant to be Akshay’s day

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 01, 2011)

The King Khan has done it once again. Shah Rukh Khan has just proved who the real Baadshah of Bollywood is by snatching away all the media attention on a day which should rightfully have been Akshay Kumar’s.

On Thursday, Akshay along with Suniel Shetty was promoting their film Thank You in a bus on Bandstand. Slowly word spread about it. And the bus (see pic 1), which was to give couples free ride at the place to promote the film, had the entire media surrounding it and chanting the names of the two stars inside it.

Now, when we talk of Bandstand, we cannot forget Mannat. And incidentally, the only parking space available for the bus was right outside Shah Rukh’s famous home. The crowd drew the actor himself along with his wife Gauri and a few others out of their rooms into the balcony. (see pic 2) And then the fun started!

Within five minutes, King Khan, who saw the media outside, came out of the balcony on to the now familiar terrace from where he waved out to the crowd below. (see pic 3) And magic! The entire media gathered to cover the event with Akshay and Suniel immediately moved to get a glimpse of Khan.

Explaining the events, a source ruminated, “We don’t know what made SRK do that. Was it deliberate? Maybe, he wanted to take the limelight away from Akshay. In the More >

The Amazing Spider Man’s Proto-Goblin straddles not just Bollywood and Hollywood but also juggles the art of Ang Lee with Hindi naach-gaana

Kunal Pradhan (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 27, 2011)

In the back seat of his Prado, Irrfan Khan slips off his chappals, and allows his long legs to straddle over the front seat.

He digs out a pouch of tobacco, and rolls himself a tiny, wrinkled, runt of a cigarette. To his right, sitting nonchalantly on a sheaf of papers is the script of Life of Pi, directed by Ang Lee and co-starring Gerard Depardieu.

Ten minutes ago, he was at a radio station, talking about his upcoming Bollywood release, Thank You, touted as a typical multi-star comedy that encourages viewers to leave their brains at home.

The irony of this contrast is not lost on Irrfan. He breaks into a sly smile, his eyes light up, and he puffs a little deeper the moment you start pointing it out.

Each day is a series of important conversations for Irrfan these days. He talks about the things he always wanted: phone calls from top directors; positive reinforcement from peers; interviews with the New York Times; fans saying they love him; and encounters with divas such as Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman.

Along the way, he’s picked up adjectives. Everything is ‘wonderful’, More >

Thank You trio get embarrased at party

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 23, 2011)

Bobby, Suniel and Irrfan hosted a raunchy Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo party yesterday afternoon at Madh Island.

The venue turned into temptation island with alcohol, hot women and even a dance performance by bikini clad beauties.

The three leading men however, chose to remain unaffected, due to the presence of shutterbugs on the scene.

The dancers were supposed to perform with the three stars but the men were uncomfortable doing the jig in front of the lensmen.

It was only after the hot girls were off the stage that the actors felt comfortable and carried on with the party.

Akshay, Bobby, Irrfan, Suneil dance with hot babes in Thank You

After directing blockbusters such as No Entry, Singh Is Kinng and Welcome, the ‘King of Comedy’ Anees Bazmee is back with his latest comic flick Thank You. The film deals with extra-marital affairs and has an ensemble cast comprising of Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitly and Rimi Sen.

One of the highlights of the film is the chartbusting track ‘Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo‘ which sees the four leading men namely Akki, Suneil, Bobby and Irrfan dancing with some really hot bikini babes. The song itself is a remix version of the yesteryears hit ‘Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo‘ from Feroz Khan’s Jaanbaaz.

The song is set in a night club and has the four actors flirting mischievously with some really sexy international dancers. To spice up the proceedings, the choreographer even came up with a step which sees the actors spanking the dancers on their buttocks.

While Akshay and Irrfan agreed to do the dance step, Bobby flatly refused to spank the dancers on their back side. Says a source from the sets of Thank You, “When Akshay, Irrfan and Bobby were shown the steps for the song, Bobby was very hesitant to do the step. Actually, Bobby is a family man, and refrains from doing any steamy or provocative steps. Even after a lot of coaxing Bobby refused to budge and reasoned out with director Anees Bazmee who finally had no option but to give in to Bobby’s request.” Finally the More >
