Ajay Devgn speaks five languages for scene in Himmatwala
1Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; February 18, 2013)
In his upcoming film Himmatwala, you will see Ajay Devgn speaking in five different languages. In one particular scene, Ajay has delivered dialogues in Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and Tamil. He took special training to get the accent and the tone right, says a source. Director Sajid Khan confirms, “Yes, Ajay has spoken in five languages in one particular scene where the heroine (Tamannaah) gets some goons to beat him up. All those guys belong to different regions. One is from Punjab, another is from Tamil Nadu, yet another from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Bengal. They challenge him to a duel in their own languages. That’s when Tamannaah asks Ajay’s character what will he do as he doesn’t understand what they are saying. Ajay not only beats them up but later answers all of them in their respective languages.” Sajid wanted to incorporate this scene specially because it will give an all-India feel. Ajay is said to be fluent in Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi but for Tamil and Bengali, Sajid hired a tutor. “It’s not just a word that he says, it’s an entire dialogue which is why I got a tutor on the sets,” says Sajid who shot the scene in two hours.
Karisma Kapoor dubs in four dialects for Dangerous Ishhq
0Karisma Kapoor plays four characters who speak different dialects in her upcoming film, making the dubbing process extremely long and tedious
By Divya Unny (DNA; April 16, 2012)
Karisma Kapoor is not the one to shoot her mouth off. But looks like during the shooting and the dubbing of her latest film Dangerous Ishhq, she may have encountered situations that forced her to do so. No thanks to her dialogues which came in four different languages, with specific dialect requirements.
Says a source, “Karisma had to speak Urdu, Punjabi, Marwadi, and Hindi in the film. Since her character travels through different past lives, getting these dialects right were extremely important. Her language skills would show where she belongs to and that is a very important aspect of the film.”
Karisma who was obviously not anticipating this much work over dialogue was however provided with as much assistance as possible. Apparently filmmaker Vikram Bhatt himself would sit down with her for language lessons, so that she gets it right.
Confirms Karisma, “It was very challenging for me, though extremely exciting too. It involved a lot of research and learning. It wasn’t simple just talking, but I had to get the pronunciations right. I had to keep it as authentic as possible.”
However, it seems to have been hindering the dubbing process of the film. Adds the source, “It’s been very tedious to dub in these many different languages and obviously it’s taking a lot more time than it otherwise would . More >
My mother loved the idea of mainstream work-Sunny Leone
0Adult film star Sunny Leone is back in India to shoot for her first Bollywood film; hopes audience will look past who she is
Kashika Saxena (BOMBAY TIMES; March 22, 2012)
Sunny Leone is starting on her first ‘regular’ Bollywood film, and she tells BT about stuff you wouldn’t normally expect from a porn star — on how she’s considering quitting the porn industry, the way her parents raised her, watching Hindi films with her mum, and how, while growing up, visits to the temple were a must. Excerpts:
Hindi lessons for Jism 2 I am taking Hindi lessons and slowly getting used to talking in the language again. It’s like riding a bike, once you start using it, it comes naturally to you after a while. My parents spoke Punjabi and we would watch Hindi movies, so I understood Hindi and Punjabi, but they never forced us to speak Punjabi in the house because we were living in Canada.
People will come to watch the film It’s the most amazing feeling that people are responding to me and I really want to do a good job with this movie. When people watch the film, I want them to forget about Sunny Leone and focus on the character. As far as acceptance in Bollywood is concerned, if my fans go see the movie then that’s all I need. I can’t take one man’s opinion and let it hurt me.
Friends from Bigg Boss Pooja Bedi, Sky and Juhi are my friends. Juhi and I recently enjoyed a spa afternoon. I am indifferent to everyone else on the show.

Every time I got close to Esha, I was scared!-Arjan Bajwa
0Arjan Bajwa on romancing Esha Deol in their new film
Seema Sinha (BOMBAY TIMES; October 27, 2011)
Arjan Bajwa was petrified of doing intimate scenes with Priyanka Chopra in Fashion, and he was once again in a dilemma when he had to romance Esha Deol in HM Creations’ Tell Me O Kkhuda, that releases today. Besides Esha being his senior, the other reason for his nervousness was that he feared Dharam paaji!
“Every time I got close to Esha for a scene, I would ask her if her dad would be okay. I was afraid he would kill me. And Esha would say, ‘Don’t worry, just do it!’ But I never felt uncomfortable with Hemaji on the sets, as she is a thorough professional,” he says.
Arjan plays a supportive boyfriend to Esha in the film, but Esha bullied and played Arjan’s senior to the hilt during the shoot. “Esha wouldn’t talk much to me on the sets. Hemaji noticed this and scolded her once, and Esha wanted to know whether I had complained about her!” he laughs. Adds Esha, “I was the senior one this time, so I bullied Arjan. I would trouble him a lot and he would just grin and bear it. We have now become good friends and that comfort level comes across.”
Arjan further says, “Esha would get jealous because I would get more compliments from her parents. She would call up and ask, ‘Why are they praising you all the time? What did you tell them?’”
At times Esha would start talking to her mom in Tamil and Arjan would start chatting with Hema in Telugu (he has acted in eight Telugu films). More >
Gulzar gives out lessons to Farhan Akhtar
0The famous lyricist is imparting Punjabi lessons to the actor who will essay the title role in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 24, 2011)
For the first time in his career, Farhan Akhtar decided to do a film outside his home banner, Excel Entertainment. And so, the actor, who essays Milkha Singh in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, has been spending a lot of his time preparing for the role. Now we hear that Farhan, who was taking Urdu lessons from his father Javed Akhtar, has now turned to lyricist and director Gulzar to learn Punjabi.
According to a source the script demands Farhan’s character to speak with an authentic Punjabi accent. “Considering Gulzar hails from Punjab, Farhan decided to learn the language from him. In the film, he needs to have that accent and Farhan wants to make sure that he does it perfectly. Rakyesh Mehra is very impressed by Farhan’s determination to learn the language.”
When contacted, the official spokesperson of the film said, “Farhan Akhtar is going through extensive training. He will be multilingual at the end of this project.”
10 languages used in 1 song of Joker
0By Joginder Tuteja, February 14, 2011 – 10:57 IST
He may have called his film Joker but director Shirish Kunder is dead serious when it comes to his second film. For this Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer that goes on floor this month, Shirish is now all set to film a song which is made of – hold your breath – 10 languages. A dance number, it is sung by Daler Mehendi and is a fusion track.
“That’s right; we have already recorded the song and would be picturising it in the Chandigarh schedule which kick-starts on Valentines Day (14th February). The uniqueness about this song is that it has lyrics belonging to 10 languages – Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam”, says Shirish who has earlier directed Akshay in his debut outing Jaan-E-Mann.
Now an effort like this could well take the song in the record books because as far as Bollywood outings are concerned, the record so far is held by Angrezi Mein Kehte Hai from Amitabh Bachchan starrer Khud-Daar (1982) which had lyrics in five languages – English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali and Punjabi. With the song from Joker bringing in ten languages, it is miles ahead of the competition.
“Well, we are not thinking of any records as of now. What we want is that we should have fun while getting the song on screen and audience should be enjoying it”, says Shirish who is co-producing the film along with Akshay Kumar, “Farah would be choreographing the song.”

Nargis can now walk Hindi, talk Hindi
0Imtiaz Ali loves challenges. In Love Aaj Kal he made a Brazilian girl speak and dance like a desi Punjabi kudi. This time he has cast Nargis Fakhri of Czech Pakistani origin in Rockstar.
Speaking Hindi was obviously a tough task at hand but Nargis too is a determined player. She has surprised everyone by picking up the language quickly.
A source from the crew informs, “Nargis’ command on Hindi was not good and she faced a lot of trouble mouthing the dialogues initially.
Though she was assigned a Hindi teacher and Imtiaz was also helping her with her diction, she would take very long to shoot a scene.
However, on a recent schedule she surprised everyone with her fluent Hindi. She has been working very hard on her Hindi and has shown a lot of improvement over the last few months. Her diction and pronunciation is clear now.”
Like it taught Katrina Kaif, Bollywood has trained Nargis too. It doesn’t spare anyone.

Shahid Kapoor confesses his fondness for the dusky actress
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; January 19, 2010)
It rained 10 different Best Actor awards in Shahid Kapoor’s backyard all through 2010. The accolades came for Kaminey (2009) and the applause carried through for a year. Somewhere in between he had a couple of indifferent films. A dud called Dil Bole Hadippa and an average grosser called Badmaash Company. Both got mixed reactions. That’s when this cutie-pie hero, who has been at the No 4 slot on the Times 50 Most Desirable Men, twice in a row, decided to take a short break to do some serious strategising.
“I was reading scripts every day,’’ confesses the actor. However, he agreed to do just Mausam directed by his father Pankaj Kapur. This March, the shooting should end. And immediately after this Shahid will start work on Kunal Kohli’s next romantic film with his current date Priyanka Chopra. The PC-Shahid romance has gained great momentum in recent weeks after their appearance on Koffee with Karan. Mercifully, he doesn’t shy away from the topic. Admits Shahid, “I am very fond of Priyanka.’’
However, the actor refutes stories of their New Year engagement in Goa. Says he, “As always the media is ahead of both Priyanka and me with their constant speculation. I am not one of those who leads life according to what the press will write or say. I do not let others govern my actions and my thought process. I am okay with being More >
