Kangna ranaut on trial
0Mumbai Mirror pins the actress down with seven prickly questions
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 25, 2011)
Charge 1:
Films in which you haven’t played an edgy character, haven’t clicked.
It would be wrong to say that. Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai did well. But yes, that was more of Ajay Devgn’s film.
But how long could I go on playing those whacko characters? I kept getting similar roles but yearned to play other characters and I reached a pint of desperation.
I used to cry and wonder why I was not being offered roles, which could do justice to my talent. I could see that those roles were going to girls who had boyfriends and contacts at the right places. I couldn’t make friends.
I was lonely. Nobody was even recommending me. Instead of unwinding, I would often be researching drug-addicts or schizophrenics.
Thankfully, times have changed. Today I am in very happy space. I am playing a flirtatious girl in Rascals and Sanjay Dutt’s secretary in Dhamaal 2.
Charge 2…
You said nobody was recommending you. But today, Ajay Devgn does. (Interrupts) That’s not true. In fact now, Ajay and I are thinking of not doing films together for two-three years. We are taking a break from each other professionally.
That’s how Ajay also feels. We can’t make our on-screen chemistry repetitive.
Charge 3…
Its’ said that you use names of A-list actors to add to your brand equity.
If I could win so many awards- there are close to twenty lying in my house- without More >

I’m going to be in Lok Sabha in five years-Rakhi Sawant
0
Rakhi Sawant has bigger plans, she wants to become a politician now
Akash Wadhwa (BOMBAY TIMES; October 9, 2010)
There’s simply no stopping Rakhi Sawant, from shooting her mouth off that is. And this time round this unbridled item girl has big plans of joining politics, no less. “Rakhi Sawant Hindustan ki beti hai,” claims this item girl who has dabbled in charity in the past. She adds, “Five years from now and you will see me sitting in Lok Sabha. I have everything that a politician should have.” Was cleaning the Mumbai streets a step in that direction, we wonder.
But the unstoppable doesn’t stop here, as she has an opinion on Baba Ramdev joining politics too. But “Main rajneeti ki kursi sekna nahi chahti hoon, like others” is all she was ready to comment on the Yoga guru having his own political outfit, and the smart ones can read between the lines.
Ask her from where she would like to contest elections and she quickly replies, “Kanpur. Usse mera purana rishta hai. Ek time pe wo mera sasural hua karta tha. So, what better place to start my political career from a place which is so close to my heart.”
And Rakhi seems to have started understanding a bit of politics, she says, “Ab Shiv Sena ko hi dekh lo. The party workers are creating a ruckus over Bigg Boss 4 contestants being from Pakistan. Did anyone ever think why did they did not do anything to another show which has contestants from India and Pakistan competing with each other.?” More >
Bigg Boss shenanigans: TRP teasers or genuine?
0By Subhash K. Jha, October 5, 2010 – 11:21 IST
The shocking shenanigans of conman Devender Singh, alias Bunty, on the new season of Bigg Boss, comes as no shock to director Dibakar Banerjee who has made a film based on Bunty’s life.
Dibakar feels something was not quite right with Bunty. “I met him in jail for the film very briefly. I couldn’t make head or tail of his behaviour. Later, the jail authorities told me he had a problem with authority.”
Dibakar wonders if the whole thing with Bunty is a publicity stunt. However, a reliable source from the channel confirms that Bunty has been sent packing for good. “There’s no question of his coming back. He has abused and violated the basic rules of the show. He abused the girls and broke the mike and camera. We had to persuade him out of the Bigg Boss house. We offered to send him back home to Delhi. But he refused to take our offer. As far as we are concerned, he’s out of show for good.”
The other school of thought is that Bunty was brought into the Bigg Boss’ house as in-house counterpart to the host Salman Khan.

Unearthing the truth behind IMPAA election scandal
0Why is this election turning into an Agatha Christie whodunit? Read this to figure out…
Nazia Sayed (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 27, 2010)
After its vice-president received death threats to withdraw her nomination from the upcoming IMPPA elections, the cops called in Harish Sugandh for interrogation. What makes it Hitchcockian is that Sugandh happens to be a close associate of Shiromanee. It’s election time at IMPPA.
A member said, “There is something fishy here. How can someone who has called to threaten you also offer you money? We have all spoken to the police and they are looking in it. It might be a classic case of trying to gain sympathy from other members. We all are also wondering how Harish Sugandh, who is a close associate of Sushmaji, has been called for interrogation. We all think that it is a publicity stunt to gain sympathy.”
Another member said, “Let us just wait and watch. We all know who is here to work and who wants to gain from this election drama. Why would anyone threaten Sushma Shiromanee and since when has the IMPPA elections become relevant to the underworld? There is definitely foul play and we all are waiting for the investigation to end and find out who is behind this call and the motive of the call.”
Sushma Shiromanee (Yogen Shah)Confirming Harish Sugandh was called in for questioning, KMM Prasanna, DCP Zone IX, said, “We have called in various people from both the sides for questioning and some are yet More >
I want to say sorry to Shah Rukh & Karan-Priyadarshan
0By Subhash K. Jha, February 16, 2010 – 09:31 IST
The prolific Priyadarshan’s reputation after his television appearance calling the conflict between the Shiv Sena and Shah Rukh Khan a publicity stunt, has put him in the ‘block’ list of many important cell phones in Mumbai.
Predictably, Priyan pleads innocence. “I was quoted out of context. I’d never speak like that about Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. They’ve both been very nice to me. If I’ve hurt either of them I apologize to them publicly, and would like to add that in any conflict between filmmakers and politicians I’d naturally and inevitably support my own fraternity.”
Priyadarshan wanted to call his new film with Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu and Akshaye Khanna Ishaq. In fact he had all but finalized the title when to his horror Priyan found out that a film entitled Ishqiya is already out.
“Vishal Bhardwaj beat me to it!” laughs Priyan. “He took the title Ishqiya. And once that was out, there was no point in calling my film Ishaq. So we’ve named it Garam Hawa after M S Sathyu’s classic.”
Priyan hopes to live up to the title of Sathyu’s film. “I’m not such a bad filmmaker, you know. If I’m the director of De Dana Dan I’ve also made Kancheevaram.”

Hirani, Bhagat lock horns on Day 2 of ‘3 Idiots’ row
0Mumbai: The 3 Idiots drama off screen is becoming as engrossing as the film’s on-screen performances with the issue of opening and closing credits hogging the limelight.
On Wednesday, writer Chetan Bhagat blogged claiming that 70% of the film had been inspired by his book Five Point Someone (FPS). He also complained the script was not shown to him before release and that he was hurt because the producers did not acknowledge his contribution to the film in the opening credits.
On Saturday, director Raju Hirani refuted all charges levelled by the writer. He showed documentary evidence of the contracts signed by him with the production house. He also showed a non-disclosure agreement signed by Bhagat and categorically denied the charge that he was not shown the final script of the film.
“Pre-release, the makers of the film made statements that it was only loosely inspired by the book. After release, those who have read the book and seen the movie find the film to be an adaptation of FPS,’’ Bhagat blogged.
He also stated that his family was upset after they didn’t spot his name in the opening credits of the film and also the story credit was not given to him. But Hirani clarified that the rights of the novel, with complete authority to alter the text to suit the screen, was purchased by them. He said the contract clearly stated that Bhagat’s name would be in the end-rolling credits and the agreement was signed in More >
