Panchkula: Residents of this Haryana town will soon have a new neighbour— Madhuri Dixit. The actress spent the weekend in Chandigarh, visiting the house being built at the foothills of the Shivalik mountains.

The plot, which is now worth Rs 8 crore, was allotted to her by former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal from the CM’s discretionary quota in 1996. The plot is spread over 450 square metres. Its worth at the time of allotment was Rs 2, 77,746.

Madhuri’s 3-BHK house is likely to be ready by October this year. Neighbours and those working on the house said the actor visited the plot along with husband Shri Ram Nene and sons Arin and Ryan on Saturday afternoon. “She came with her husband and kids for around 15 minutes and assessed the progress made so far,” said Rakesh Gupta, who is involved in the construction work.

Madhuri joins the league of celebrities who are looking for a suitable plot in the hills to construct their house. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also constructing her dream house in the Chharabra village of Himachal Pradesh, about 12 km from the capital city of Shimla. She got the previous structure razed last year after being dissatisfied with the construction. Work on the plot recommenced in March .

“About three months ago, Madhuri Dixit wanted to sell off the plot but later changed her mind and started the construction work,” said Hira Mani, a real estate agent from the area.
