On the big screen, the downpour signals the hero and heroine to break into a song and get wet. But off screen, Mumbai’s recent monsoon fury has thrown Bollywood totally out of gear.
The incessant showers have played spoilsport disrupting the shoot of several films. The shoots did not start as planned while several of them, especially at Film City, began late due to the bumper-to-bumper traffic on the roads. A few shoots even got cancelled. Several film events had to bear the brunt too. They were either cancelled or postponed at short notice due to the downpour.
Shah Rukh Khan was to launch a mobile game of his upcoming film yesterday. The event was scheduled for 2.30 pm but the timing was pushed back to later in the day due to the heavy rainfall.
On Tuesday, Kiran Rao and Anand Gandhi were to interact with the media about their recently released Ship Of Theseus. However, there were only a handful present as most could reach the suburban hotel where the event was held.
Arjun Rampal and Nikhil Advani were to ride with 60 bikers on Sunday morning as part of their recent release D-Day’s event. But it got cancelled as it was heavily raining all day. Harbhajan Singh was to unveil his single Hindi album on Tuesday which got postponed to the next day, and eventually the event got cancelled as the cricketer was unable to board a flight from Delhi due to the heavy rain.

While there had been a lot of hoopla about a community rath yatra in Ahmedabad attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, it looks like it managed to pose some problems for the makers of an upcoming film Issaq starring Prateik and Amyra Dastur.
According to sources, the cast was supposed to touch down in the city for their film promotions on Wednesday. Their tickets and accommodation had been arranged for much in advance. However, with news about Modi’s impending trip, all plans had to be cancelled on Tuesday night.
A source says, “The team was supposed to hold a press conference, visit a school, a mall and a discotheque in Ahmedabad.” According to insiders, the city was almost turned intro a fortress with security arrangements for the politician. “It would have become a logistical nightmare for anything else to take place in the city,” adds the source.

Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet is set for a Bollywood adaptation. The movie, titled Issaq, directed by Manish Tiwari, stars Prateik and debutante Amyra Dastur.
About his lead pair, Tiwari says, “We wanted someone young for the character of Bachchi, more so since Shakespeare’s Juliet was just 14. What made me choose Amyra was her headstrong personality, which is an integral part of Juliet’s character as well.” As for his desi Romeo, he says, “I wanted a new-generation Romeo. I think the passion, restlessness and frustration in Prateik gels with what I had in mind for the character of Rahul Mishra.” The movie, produced by Jayantilal Gada, Shailesh R Singh and Dhaval Gada, is set in Varanasi.
Explains Jayantilal, ”We liked what Manish narrated. He had already decided to cast Prateik with a new girl. And when we saw what he had shot, we were happy.”
Issaq, presented by Pen India Pvt. Ltd, releases July 26.

He may have split with his British girlfriend Amy Jackson months ago but that doesn’t stop Prateik from getting stuck with yet another Amy.
Sources say that the actor has been cast opposite a new girl called Amy Dastur in his next film Issaq directed by Manish Tiwary.
Also, buzz is that keeping Prateik’s earlier romance in mind, the makers decided to change the 20- year- old’s name from Amy to Amyra.
An insider says, “ A few months after their film Ekk Deewana Tha released, Prateik and Amy parted ways. They had been dating for a while and had even inked each other’s names on their bodies. The makers wanted to avoid confusion between the two names.” The identity of the girl was being kept under wraps even while the film went on the floors in Varanasi.

Ever since there was buzz about Amy Jackson and her Ekk Deewana Tha co-star Prateik going their separate ways, Amy disappeared from Mumbai and B- Town. But seeing her of late in a commercial for a Mumbai skyscraper that claims to be the world’s tallest residential tower has put her back in the spotlight.
Amy has been away from Mumbai as she has been busy shooting for her South films that are being shot simultaneously with long outdoor schedules. She is slated to be back in the city this weekend and has meetings lined up for potential B- Town projects.
Says a source, “She had been shooting for Vamsi Paidipally’s Telugu film Yevadu which stars Ram Charan Teja. Then since October she was in China for two months shooting for Shankar’s Tamil film I with Vijay. As soon as the schedule wrapped up late November, she went back to Liverpool where her folks stay for a short break. Last week she was in Amsterdam with her pals attending her favourite music group, Swedish House Mafia’s concert.”
Adds the source, “Amy is now in Chennai for the next schedule of Shankar’s film which will again take her to different parts of the globe as Shankar loves to shoot at world renowned sites.” Meanwhile Amy is looking forward to be at home in Mumbai for a while after months.
Actor is slated to play the nerdy- geeky detective in the upcoming dark thriller, after equations have apparently changed between the producer and Prateik
Shakti Shetty (MID-DAY; October 20, 2012)
When it comes to casting an actor, choosing and chasing is an everyday story in B-Town. Turns out Anshuman Jha has found himself on the right side of this routine as he has effectively substituted Prateik in Amit Chandrra’s forthcoming film.
There was buzz doing the rounds that Prateik was supposed to be cast in the project but equations have apparently changed between the producer and the actor. As a result, Anshuman is slated to play the nerdy-geeky detective in an upcoming dark thriller. Moreover, Amit feels that the Bollywood newbie fits the role to the T.
“Anshuman’s acting abilities are known but his screen presence is something special. His simplicity and energy makes him incredibly easy to work with,” adds Amit who produced KLPD, Anshuman’s most recent film.
Incidentally, the actor has also signed one more film deal with Amit’s production house. However when we speak to him, Anshuman downplays the ‘replacement theory’ and states that he’d rather focus on his work. “As of now, I just want to concentrate on good scripts. That’s my ultimate aim.”
The actress feels her boyfriend is more of a hindrance than a help
BOMBAY TIMES (August 9, 2012)
Amy Jackson is just as ambitious today as the other famous British import Katrina Kaif was nine years ago. However, the only headlines she’s hit has been because of her on-off relationship with B-Town actor Prateik. And since neither Amy nor Prateik have nothing much going for them professionally, their PR machinery has been leveraging stories of their real-life romance.
One can argue that Prateik has nothing substantial to speak of as far as Hindi cinema goes. After fabulous breaks in Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na; Dhobi Ghat, Dum Maaro Dum, My Friend Pinto and Ekk Deewana Tha, he has no prize projects today.
Care or not, everyone knows that the lovebirds were together in London; or that they were taking a break, etc. It’s the mysterious nature of their relationship that is keeping it alive.
However, this, too, may end.
Amy has bagged Robot director Shankar’s next I and is reportedly in no mood to continue her relationship with Prateik. She even finds him a hindrance rather than a help in her life and career. Says a source, “Amy is not kicked about the fact that Prateik hangs around her set. She certainly thinks of him as a friend, but she sees no future with him otherwise.’’
The fact is that Prateik’s not doing any films he can recommend Amy for. We hear that she wants her man to move ahead career-wise, just as she has begun to. She even bagged the Shankar project opposite Tamil More >
Youth-centric movie series directed by Bejoy Nambiar to feature cameos by actors and musicians
Seema Sinha (BOMBAY TIMES; July 15, 2012)
With Indian television audiences getting younger and younger, channels have their targets set on the youth. The latest is a movie series called Rush.
Set against the backdrop of a college festival, each episode of this provocative series has loads of musicians collaborating, treating the audience to a peek into one character’s ‘fantastic’ 48 hours (the duration of the college festival), that change their whole lives. The series will see Prateik, Shruti Hassan, Javed Jafferi, Isha Sharvani and Monica Dogra among others making cameos on the show.
Produced by Milind Soman’s Face Entertainment in association with Bejoy Nambiar’s Getaway Films, the series covers several genres — drama, comedy, action, nail-biting suspense… Says Nambiar, the director of the series, “I have approached it as a film and we have kept it as real as possible. There are 12 stories and every episode is one character story. The college festival also gave me the opportunity to explore the wild side of college life. The content is bold. And I didn’t do any research as everything is heavily borrowed from our own college lives.”
Adds Aditya Swamy, EVP and Business Head, MTV India, “One must see the series to believe how Bejoy can weave 12 different stories into one smashing narrative. The 13th episode will be culmination of the preceding episodes.” Commenting on the More >

Anyone who knows Prateik is aware of his affinity for the colour black. The actor loves to dress up in Goth ensembles, experiment with his look and wear grungy clothes. In Bejoy Nambiar’s short film Shaitan, the actor will play a rockstar. For the part, he’s worn piercings on his nose and lips and is also sporting dreadlocks.
A source reveals, “Prateik was super excited when he heard about his look in the film. He was intially locked in to do Bejoy’s feature film of the same name, but things didn’t work out. So when this role came his way, he said yes to being part of the project.”
While his contemporary Ranbir Kapoor has already played a rockstar, Prateik’s take on it will be radically different.
What is Prateik doing in Bejoy Nambiar’s TV show? Especially after half-sister Juhi’s bitter divorce with the filmmaker
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; July 4, 2012)
Prateik may have irked his father’s side of the family when he decided to drop his Babbar surname last year. The young actor has now given his paternal folks yet another reason to be irked with him. Prateik features in an upcoming television series directed by Bejoy Nambiar, ex-husband of his half-sister Juhi Babbar.
Says a source, “He may consider it as a professional assignment but it was something he could have avoided. It might cause an embarrassment to them.” Juhi married Bejoy after over two years of courtship in 2007. They divorced in 2009 and very bitterly too. Last year Juhi tied the knot with telly actor-anchor Anoop Soni.
Interestingly, Prateik was present for all the events during the Juhi-Bejoy marriage. But he was conspicuous by his absence during Juhi’s marriage with Anoop. After he had decided to drop his surname, his half-brother Aarya Babbar had lashed out at him even though his father Raj Babbar had maintained that he was his child just like Juhi and Aarya.
As reported ‘Ready to patch up?’ (Hitlist, June 26) Prateik had paid a visit to the Babbar household for his father’s birthday celebrations. Though he had distanced himself from his father’s family, this was seen as an attempt to let bygones be bygones. But looks like he has stirred a hornet’s nest again.
