Arjun Kapoor is the most desirable man of 2012

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; May 6, 2013)

India has voted and chosen the Times 50 Most Desirable Men of 2012. The 7.01 lakh votes received online on www.itimes.com/polls along with our vote decided the winners. Bombay Times talks to Arjun Rampal who tops the list.

Flattered, ecstatic, kicked — what does it feel to be voted the most desirable man of 2012? I would be lying if I said I’m not flattered being voted as the Times Most Desirable Man of 2012. Frankly, I have no idea how the desirability quotient is arrived at. If it is just drop dead good looks, then I have to thank God and my parents for it.

In your opinion, besides looks, what else goes into making a man desirable? I think it is a combination of looks, aura, success, the energies that one gives out, the person you are and the person you feel like that makes you ‘desirable’. When the outside world sees you as a man who is responsible for himself and his family, as a man who is fit and sensitive, it kind of ups your desirability.

Are you narcissistic? How many times a day do you look in the mirror? I have not taken my good looks seriously from the beginning. When I would be teased by my friends about my looks, I would just make a self-deprecating remark and let it pass. As I said earlier, my looks came from my parents. As for the vanity bit, the reason I’m not vain is because I have never attached too much importance to being handsome. I’m a normal actor who looks in the mirror when he is shaving, having a haircut More >

Amitabh Bachchan looking for residential property in Bhopal?

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; May 6, 2013)

Looks like Bachchans have a strong connection with Bhopal. According to sources, while Amitabh Bachchan was shooting for Prakash Jha’s film, Satyagraha in Bhopal, he used his free time to scour for a suitable residential property to set up another home.

Interestingly, the legendary actor has a special connection with the city as his wife Jaya’s mother Indira resides there. It is said that the Bachchans already have two flats and some land in Bhopal. This time AB is apparently interested in buying a property at the outskirts of the city of lakes.

The source adds, “Bachchan saab was here for the shooting of Prakash Jha’s movie and he had earlier expressed how he likes the place for its lush green ambience.” Apparently Big B had stayed back for a day after the shooting to finish some work and the hunt is still on for the coveted property.

Another source from Bhopal revealed that someone close to the Bachchans had mentioned that the family loves the city so much that he took the latest addition in the family — granddaughter Aaradhya — to his mother-in-law’s place.

Even during his earlier shooting schedule for Satyagraha, he was seen visiting his favourite places in the city.

Bachchan remained unavailable for comment.

Anna Hazare’s fast until death at the Ram Leela Ground in Delhi had shaken up the country, people from all the walks of the country were trying to reach out to Anna. Some were going to meet him, while others were writing poems on him and one such man is Prasoon Joshi.

He wrote a poem called Mashaal which was about the awakening of common public. If sources are to be believed, his verses are now going to be used in a song for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha.

Sources from the sets inform us, “Director Prakash Jha was apparently so moved by the poetry that he immediately bought the rights from Prasoon.” The film already has Indian Ocean and Salim Sulaiman composing one — one track each for the film. Though it is yet to be decided as to who will compose for Prasoon’s work.

Sajid Khan, who has gone into hibernation after the debacle of Himmatwala, was recently spotted in Bhopal. The director was in the city of lakes to catch up with buddy Ajay Devgn who is shooting there for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha.

Says a source, “Sajid was in Bhopal for a day. He however did not meet Devgn on the sets but in his hotel. He met him in his hotel room to avoid any unwanted attention.” The director had also visited the actor last month when the first schedule of the film was on. Adds the source, “Sajid is extremely close to Ajay. In his difficult time, he is spending time with his near and dear ones. He is extremely hurt but he will bounce back soon.” Sajid has not made a public appearance since the film’s verdict was out and has remained incommunicado.

Prakash Jha has given me my most challenging role-Amrita Rao

Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; April 20, 2013)

After a brief lull in her career for the past two years, Amrita Rao made her way back to the big screen in the Arshad Warsi starrer Jolly LLB. Next on the anvil is her film Satyagraha helmed by Prakash Jha, for which the shooting is on full swing.

Amrita, who plays the character of a woman with a lot of aggression, says this is her most challenging role ever, more so because she shares the screen with Amitabh Bachchan.

The actress says, “Jha has given me my most challenging role. There are different shades to my character and of course I have to deliver all of that in front of Mr Bachchan. My role in the film runs very closely to him.” While Amrita has also starred in the 2004 release Deewar along with Bachchan, she did not share any scene with the veteran.

The actress is not very forthcoming to talk about her character in Jha’s film but adds, “It’s a role where my character does not say much but is very strong. There is a lot of aggression in her and there is a tremendous scope for performance. It was emotionally challenging for me as I was surrounded by Mr Bachchan and all the other actors who are far more senior than I am.”

With temperatures soaring in Bhopal, the cast and crew of Satyagraha is feeling the heat

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; April 12, 2013)

Call it occupational hazard. The temperatures on the sets of Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha have soared so high that the cast and the crew apparently have been feeling the heat, literally. While many actors have taken to the social networking site to complain about the extreme weather condition, Ajay Devgn apparently fell ill and a doctor had to be summoned on the sets.

The second schedule is on at the Benazir grounds in the city and the daytime temperature stands at 40 degrees. Arjun Rampal was the first one among the cast to complain about the weather. Last Wednesday, Arjun wrote, “Going to head back to Bhopal again today for the last schedule of Satyagraha, another 25 days. Wish me luck as the weather will be a challenge.” Later Devgn tweeted, “ Back in Bhopal and the heat is killing!” Amrita Rao tweeted yesterday, “Day 5 SATYAGRAHA 2nd schedule.. and the microwave has jus turned into a bhatti ..”

A source from the sets says, “The stars are cooperating with the crew. We try to wrap up the shoot in time and head back to the hotel. A doctor had to be called in when Devgn complained of blood pressure problems. Touchwood it was not something major.” Devgn’s spokesperson however denied the buzz of the actor falling ill.

Only few actors can play Himmatwala; with others, it’ll be Himmatwali-Ajay Devgn

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; March 28, 2013)

Ajay Devgn, who turns 43 on April 2, is your quintessential Bollywood machismo symbol. He’s firmly ensconced in the Hindi cinema hierarchy — alongside the Khans — with a neat track record of some 100-crore hits and some piddly misses. This Son Of Sardaar balances his cinematic choices, with mainstream masala (Himmatwala) and the sensitive (Satyagraha). And he will always speak his mind, no matter what the consequences are.So we ask:

What’s this obsession with alpha male titles — Singham, Son Of Sardaar, Himmatwala… Well, it’s only a happy coincidence that when filmmakers register these ‘macho’ titles, they come in my direction. There is nothing to prove. I have maintained that the Bollywood box office clearly knows the difference between the boys and the men. It’s not because I’m in my 40s that I’m saying so. If you look closely, you will see that it’s the 40-plus actors who are ruling the roost. (Laughs and adds) And anyway, there are only few actors with whom you can make Himmatwala. With others, it will probably have to be Himmatwali.

Jokes apart, you seem obsessed with the macho image. Frankly, actors do not court images. It’s the media that is busy trying to give us slots. Someone is a chocolate boy, romantic; someone is the action king and so on. I don’t wish to be button-holed. But you could say that I’m more suited for macho roles than I am for romantic ones. That doesn’t mean I can’t succeed at romance. One of my biggest More >

Kareena Kapoor agrees to get intimate with Ajay Devgn in Satyagraha?

0

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; March 13, 2013)

Kareena Kapoor will be performing intimate scenes with Ajay Devgn in Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha. The actress apparently has given a green signal to enact the scenes.

Says a source, “Kareena has no reservations about doing such scenes. She is a thorough professional and a director’s actress. She is ready to do what the script requires if it’s an integral part of the movie.” The scenes will be shot in Bhopal next month Adds the source, “The details of the scenes have been worked out and both the actors are comfortable about it. We also make sure that it will be shot aesthetically so there should not be any issue.” Jha remained unavailable for comment.

Saif Ali Khan gets a shaahi welcome in Bhopal thanks to Kareena Kapoor

When Saif Ali Khan reached Bhopal to visit his wife, Kareena Kapoor personally went to the airport to pick him up

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; March 6, 2013)

When Saif Ali Khan dropped by at Bhopal to check on his begum, he was mighty surprised to see none other than Kareena Kapoor at the airport. Bebo has been shooting at Bhopal for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha and has been away from home for a while.

Sources say the actress had decided to surprise her hubby by coming to pick him up at the airport.

Saif reached Bhopal on a Sunday and Kareena had the day off. No surprises that the couple spent most of the day inside Bebo’s room.

A source from the hotel where Bebo is currently staying states, “She had also decided on the menu for the meal they were to enjoy at the hotel. They had dinner together. The actress was glowing when she went to pick the Nawab up.”

On his return journey too, Kareena personally saw Saif off at the Bhopal airport.

The source adds, “The begum knows Saif’s tastes very well. After all, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” According to sources, Saif feasted on kathi roll, seekh kebab, mutton biryani and diet cola while Kareena enjoyed an assortment of cheese chilly toast, brown rice, yellow dal, and bhindi.

No intimacy between Kareena-Ajay in Satyagraha?

0

DNA (March 4, 2013)

Even though technically, Kareena Kapoor’s first film after her shaadi was Talaash, the first film she began shooting for after her wedding is Satyagraha directed by Prakash Jha. It may be just a coincidence but Kareena in her first film after marriage won’t be shown indulging in PDA with her co-star.

In Satyagraha she plays a fiercely career-oriented idealistic investigative journalist in the film and while her character is shown to be in a long-standing relationship with the political activist played by Ajay Devgn, there will be no intimate scenes between them. Says a source, “There is none of the conventional filmi romance between them either. Kareena and Ajay play a mature couple who don’t demonstrate their mutual love to one another or to the world at large. In any case Prakash Jha’s films are never high on love scenes. He likes to keep the intimacy implicit rather than demonstrative, so there are no intimate scenes between them at all.”

Says director Prakash, “I can’t tell you too much about the relationship. But yes, it’s a very mature relationship based on trust and a deep understanding of one another.”
