Sonakshi Sinha opts out of OUATIM 2?
0Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 3, 2012)
Ekta Kapoor’s Dawood has once again lost his Mandakini. Earlier, Kareena Kapoor had turned down the offer to play the gangster’s moll in the Milan Luthria directed Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Part 2. And now, Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Sonakshi Sinha too has opted out.
While the exact reason of Sonakshi’s refusal is still not known, a source close to the actress told Mumbai Mirror, “Sonakshi has expressed her unavailability for Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Part 2.”
Had Sonakshi accepted the role, it would been her third consecutive film opposite Akshay Kumar, who plays Dawood in this project. She is already working with the actor in Prabhu Deva’s Rowdy Rathore and Shirish Kunder’s Joker.
Sonakshi who apparently cited ‘date problems’ to opt out of the film however, has no animosity with producer Ekta or director Milan. “They would love to work together in future. But yes, the slot for Mandakini’s role in open once again. The film is scheduled to start in May or June. Ekta and Luthria are taking their time choosing the leading lady for the film,” added the source.
While a close friend of Sonakshi confirmed the story saying, “She was offered Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Part 2. She is not doing the film,” Sonakshi chose not respond to our calls and text messages.

0Agent Vinod girl Maryam Zakaria gets talking about her tryst with the Indian film fraternity
Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 29, 2012)
How has your journey been from running a Bollywood dance school in Sweden to dancing with Kareena in Agent Vinod? It has been incredible. I worked as a model when I came here in 2009. Since childhood, it has been my biggest dream to be a Bollywood actress. Before I came to India, I did many Persian music videos. Life is different in Sweden. It was difficult for me to adjust here. Not having any friends made it all the more difficult. But, I had patience and doors have opened for me now.
How was it working with Kareena? Do you have a bigger role than just the dance number Dil Mera Muft Ka? Yes, my character’s name is Farah and she is an international dancer from Afghanistan. I have stunt scenes with Saif. I can’t talk too much about the film. I knew Kareena is very talented. When we met, we had a good time together and connected well.
Which is more challenging for you-Hindi or South films? The song Diyalo Diyala from the film 100% Love got me recognition. However, I was not familiar with the south Indian industry. The only person I knew was Prabhudeva. I used to watch his choreography. Once, during the beginning, I had to do a Tamil song but I had injured my ribs. I was in a lot of pain but somehow I managed to pull it off. This will be something I will remember. I think the work style is the same but I like the Hindi film More >

Post Dabangg, Sonakshi Sinha’s career is certainly on a roll. While she bagged the ‘Best Debutant Award’ at all the leading award functions, she is also bagging some really plum projects.
Even as she begins her shoot for Shirish Kunder’s Joker opposite Akshay Kumar from next week, the pretty lass has already signed another film opposite the Khiladi Kumar. Sonakshi would be seen opposite Akshay in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s home production to be directed by Prabhudeva.
Surely this girl is going places and how!

‘Munni’ Malaika shoots Zandu Balm commercial
0By Bollywood Hungama News Network, December 18, 2010 – 11:08 IST
Malaika Arora Khan made the whole nation swoon to her beats with ‘Munni Badnaam‘ earlier this year, so much so that it even boosted the sales of Zandu Balm. The actress in fact was even roped in by the makers of Zandu Balm for a special promotional campaign.
Malaika recently shot for the Zandu Balm commercial in 3 different languages namely Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. While the Hindi commercial features only Malaika, in the Tamil one, she would be seen alongside South superstar Suriya and in the Telugu one alongside NTR Junior.
Apparently, all the three commercials have been shot atop a train a-la ‘Chaiyyan Chaiyyan‘ and have been choreographed by Prabhudeva.

Rajini flick’s first-week collections- Rs 117 cr
0Bharati Dubey | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; October 9, 2010)
Mumbai: Rajnikanth-starrer Endhiran has netted a collection of Rs 117 crore, surpassing the first-week collection of Bollywood’s highest firstweek grosser, Dabangg (Rs 82 crore).
Distributor and trade analyst Suniel Wadhwa said, “The film’s net collection is Rs 60 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 30 crore in Andhra Pradesh, Rs 8 crore in Karnataka and Rs 4 crore in Kerala. The Hindi version (Robot) has managed to collect Rs 15 crore. As the numbers suggest, the film has already crossed Dabangg’s two weeks’ net collection in just the first week of its release.’’
Incidentally, the entertainment tax structure and ticket-pricing formula are not uniform in India. “Ticket prices in south India are much lower as compared to other states in the country. This is the reason why boxoffice collection in the south pales as against the collection in northern states. Despite all this, the film’s BO collections prove the film has done remarkably well,’’ Wadhwa said.
Moreover, considering the fact that an additional 7% had to be paid as as entertainment tax to the government for being a dubbed movie, the collections are even more significant, an expert said. According to Wadhwa, the contribution of director Shankar too needs to be factored in . “Shankar is one director who has more brand value than Rajinikanth in AP. His films with Arjun, Prabhudeva and Vikram did wonders in the past. His last movie with Rajini did well at More >
Housefull in plagiarism row
0Housefull producer Sajid Nadiadwala files a case of extortion against a South film producer who is demanding Rs 3 crore for ‘copying’ his film
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 20, 2010) HousefullSouth producer Thenappan has alleged that Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull is a copy of his 1998 Tamil film Kadhala Kadhala (starring Kamal Hassan, Prabhudeva, Rambha and Soundarya) and demanded a compensation of Rs 3 crore.
Sajid’s friend and fellow producer Boney Kapoor tried to mediate, but till the time of going to press, no headway had been made. With Thenappan adamant about getting Rs 3 crore, Nadiadwala has now filed a police complaint alleging an extortion bid.
A source said, “Thenappan feels that Housefull is very similar to Kadhala Kadhala. Since Boney knows many people in the South film industry, he tried to reason things out with Thenappan.”
Boney said, “Well, I have withdrawn myself from this dispute now. Thenappan is demanding an obscene amount.”
On his part, Sajid said he had no option but to hit back with a police complaint. “What else could I do? That man is just not listening.
It’s a straight case of extortion. He has even called up some people who know me to pressure me into paying,” said Sajid.
Incidentally, Sajid had faced a similar situation with Heyy Babyy. “I had filed a police complaint even in that case. The filmmaker who had accused me of copying his film eventually apologised to me. Frankly, I can’t handle such More >
Sallu requests Boney to hand over Bodyguard remaking rights to Atul
0// // //
Salman is always looking out for his family members. After starring in his brother Arbaaz Khan’s production Dabang, Salman will next be working on brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri’s Hindi version of the Malayalam super hit Bodyguard.
The buzz in the trade is that Boney had bought the rights of Bodyguard and wanted Prabhudeva (who directed the runaway hit Wanted not too long ago) to direct the Hindi version, but Salman asked him to hand over the rights to Atul Agnihotri. Siddique, who had directed the original in Malayalam, will also direct the Hindi version.
A source revealed, “Boney did not hesitate to give up remaking Bodyguard. He loves Salman too much and considers the actor’s wish as his command.”
Boney admitted that he initially wanted to remake Bodyguard in Hindi but he is not upset. He said, “It’s fine if Atul will make it with Siddique. Salman was keen that Atul should make it and I have no issues whatsoever. I have not done anything great. I was simply on the verge of buying the rights of Bodyguard. Salman is family to me. I love fulfilling all his wishes and will always continue to do so.”
Atul confirmed that he is making the Hindi version of Bodyguard with Salman. “I am quickly going to finalise More >
Boney Kapoor gets what he WANTED
0Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed film producer Boney Kapoor to release his film Wanted (actor Prabhudeva’s directorial debut and a Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia-starrer) on its scheduled release date of September 18 against a deposit of Rs 2 crore in court within a week.
Kapoor had, through his lawyers Mukul Rohtagi and Ameet Naik, rushed to the apex court against a Bombay high court order directing him to furnish Rs 10 crore as security deposit in his dispute with B4U group. The high court had restrained Kapoor from creating third-party rights in respect of five films being produced by him, including Wanted. Taking the HC order to mean that Wanted would be left wanting a release, he moved the SC in appeal. The apex court clarified that he could release the film.
Kapoor had signed an MoU with a B4U company in September 2006 for a joint venture to produce films. As Kapoor was in a debt trap and the JV understanding was still being discussed, LMB (a B4U group company) executed an agreement in August 2007 and extended an advance of Rs 10 crore to acquire rights of Kapoor’s five films. But the price of the five films was not fixed and Kapoor said he and B4U were unable to reach any joint-venture understanding. Kapoor’s claim was that he had to produce films to get out of his debt trap and “in the absence of any funds from B4U, he joined hands with Sahara and produced Wanted’’.

SRK-Salman in a reality show?
0The fallout over certain remarks about Salman’s ex-girlfriend, Aishwarya Rai, was very public and it led to the Khans taking potshots at each other at every given opportunity. Recently, Salman said that Shah Rukh used to be nice, but now is he is insecure. In the past, Salman has also claimed that SRK was jealous because his show, Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?, was a flop, while Dus Ka Dum was very popular. Salman also pooh-poohed SRK’s US detention ordeal recently. And these are just a few instances.
Though stars like Rani Mukerji and Farah Khan have tried to play peacemaker between the two proud Khans, finally it may take a reality show where the stars are paid hefty sums to appear on the same platform. The reality show is called Dance Premier League and has More >
Sallu's Ganpati song in Wanted!
0This is a bit of a coincidence, really. Salman Khan shooting a song called Jalwa for his new film — Sahara Motion Pictures and S K Films Entertainment’s Wanted, that is picturised on Lord Ganesh, the presiding deity of Mumbai. The film is slated for release on September 18, the promos are on the air, and look… it’s Ganeshotsav tomorrow! Salman is a believer in Lord Ganesh, though his faith is Islam, and he also celebrates Christmas at home. That is because the ‘Khan’daan at Galaxy Apartments in Bandra west, is happily among the most cosmopolitan families in Mumbai. Father Salim Khan’s first wife Salma is a Maharashtrian Brahmin and the second, is former Bollywood swinger Helen, a Catholic. They celebrate Eid, Ganpati, Diwali and Christmas. This year, again, Ganeshotsav and the holy month of Ramazan come together. The Khans are not always rozedars, they do not keep the rozas, but the parties, the drinking and the fun, is cut down during the holy period. Iftaars are held in the evening, the Khans prepare thals of food and delicacies that are sent to orphanages, old age homes, friends and relatives. And yes, they devoutly perform the Ganpati aarti because mother Salma brings home an idol of Lord More >
