Live-in relationship takes away fun of a marriage-Sargun Mehta

Sargun Mehta, who plays the lead character in Phulwa, talks about love, relationships and infidelity

Roshni K Olivera (BOMBAY TIMES; February 26, 2012) Your first crush? I was always in a girl’s school, so my crushes were basically film heroes. I always had a crush on Shah Rukh Khan!

Your first kiss? Oh my God, that’s an ouch moment!

You are seeing actor Ravi Dubey… so who’s the boss in the relationship? Nobody is the boss, though I like the idea of saying that I am the boss.

What do you think about live-in relationships? That depends on each person. Some are comfortable with it, which is fine. Personally, I feel it would take away the fun of a marriage.

What if you catch your man with another woman? I don’t know who would be killed first… he or that woman!

What if you are attracted to somebody else? I’ll tell him but I don’t think that will happen.

What does love mean to you? Love means understanding each other. Giving each other space, not being too possessive, being supportive of your partner’s dreams. Love also means friendship. And there are various forms of love, not just romantic… there’s love between a parent and kid, between friends and siblings, etc.

What about the institution of marriage? I believe in it because I have seen it work at home. My parents have been a great example and you tend to grow up believing what you see.

So when are you planning to tie the knot? You can call my mom for that (smiles).

But Ravi and you plan to get married at some More >

Jagdeep to make TV debut

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; May 2, 2011) He tickled your funny bone with his comic timing in a number of movies, including Sholay, where he played Surma Bhopali. Now, Jagdeep is set to make a debut in TV serials with Siddharth Tewary’s Phulwa, a show loosely based on the life of bandit queen Phoolan Devi. The veteran comedian, who has been a guest on his sons Javed and Naved Jafferi’s Boogie Woogie, is acting in a serial for the first time. He plays Bhudiya, father to Shankar (played by Angad Hasija) and his character, that’s partially blind, will have shades of comedy.

Jagdeep, who’s excited about his small screen debut, told BT, “TV has grown by leaps and bounds and some intelligent writing is taking place. I liked the concept of this show. So when I was approached, there was no reason for me to decline the offer. I think my character will bring some relief to an otherwise serious show.”

What’s marriage got to do with TRPs?

Lots! That’s exactly why this institution is exploited to the fullest on TV. And now there’s going to be a three-crore shaadi on a reality show

Roshni K Olivera | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; February 17, 2011)

If a TV serial is going through a lull, what does the production house do to give it a boost? Well, insert a marriage track, a sure shot way to boost Television Rating Points (TRPs). It’s been the practice since the past two years and it continues to work; in fact now, even more than ever before.

Pavitra Rishta zoomed up to the number one spot as soon as Manav and Archana tied the knot. Chaand Chupa Badal Mein, Pratha, Phulwa, Geet and Saathiya too had dramatic wedding sequences and there was Gulaal, where the protagonist married her kid devar (what could be more dramatic than that?) There are more marriages…

Sanskar Lakshmi and Tere Liye are all ready with band, baaja and baraat. Serial-makers don’t mind spending on their wedding tracks because they believe it’s worth it. As producer-director Rajan Shahi, who’s had lavish weddings in his serials like Bidaai and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, says, “Marriage always sells on TV. People connect with the festivity and emotions involved.” Serials apart, reality shows too continue to feed audiences the shaadi ka laddoo, and the stakes here are only getting higher. Teen Crore Ki Shaadi is an upcoming reality show, where a real life couple planning to tie the knot will be chosen and More >

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 05, 2011)

Expect the unexpected from Rakhi Sawant. Recently, she called up a TV channel saying that she wanted them to cast her in their forthcoming show Phulwa, which is inspired by Phoolan Devi’s life.

While the channel was shocked at Rakhi’s demand, they heard her out. Child Star Jannat Zubair Rahmani, who was seen last in the TV show Kashi, plays the child who grows up to be Phoolan Devi.

When contacted, Rakhi confirmed and said, “ I think I will be best suited to the role. Isme sharam ki kya baat hai?”
