Kareena discusses flirting with Saif and her love of lace lingerie in her just-launched book

MUMBAI MIRROR (December 17, 2012)

DOWN TO SIZE ZERO In 2007, my life changed forever. I signed on Tashan, a fullon glamorous masala movie, with two of the hottest and fittest actors around: Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. And me, rising out of the sea like a Bond girl, wearing nothing but a green bikini (…) I had nightmares of how my love handles would be on display for the whole world to see (…) Rujuta (Diwekar, fitness consultant) stormed into my life like a whirlwind. We met and chatted for a bit, and I signed up for her weight-loss programme. The next thing I knew, she was in my house, discarding my stash of banana chips, chocolates and french fries. Even my secret loot hidden on the top shelf (…)

But oh my God, the first class was pure torture. Yoga may look peaceful and calming, but even Arnold Schwarzenegger would have trouble breathing after twenty surya namaskars in a row. Payal (Gidwani, yoga consultant) had to physically lift my legs into the asanas and help me balance because I felt so heavy (…)

I shot the now-famous bikini scene and I must admit I was a bundle of nerves! But soon the shot was ready, the film was complete and the promos hit the screen. The very next day my photos were all over every newspaper, magazine, TV channel and website. And everybody seemed to love the new me! It felt like the whole nation was tuned in to my weighing scale, and they were More >

Soha Ali Khan who has been opting for different, “real” films, talks about her projects and more

Shakti Salgonkar (DNA; November 3, 2012)

Actor Khan, who was busy indulging in the celebrations surrounding her brother Saif Ali Khan’s wedding to Kareena Kapoor recently, says the family had to take some time off to recover from all the hectic activity. “It’s been two weeks and I can say that we have finally recovered,” she laughs. “We spent two lovely days in Pataudi to recuperate from the wedding. And Pataudi is always nice, away from the city… We needed the detox,” says Soha.

On the career front, she is looking forward to her film, Life Goes On, which was screened at the recently concluded Seven Islands International Film Festival. “The film is about an Indian father living in London, and his three daughters. It opens with the mother’s death. And the father starts retracing his relationship with each of his three daughters and faces problems. For example, my character is in love with a Muslim man and the father is prejudiced by his traumatic experiences during the Partition,” explains Soha. “The film is interesting because it explores the issues of generation gaps, changing values and the questions of identity in a very textured way,” she adds.

Ask the actor about staying away from typical masala films and opting for more “real” cinema, and she says, “I think people are always looking at aspirational cinema, especially female actors. We tend to be drawn to real roles. More >

Prachi Kadam (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 18, 2012)

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s wedding revelries at the Taj Mahal Hotel stretched well through Tuesday night and into the wee hours of Wednesday morning when the couple finally reached Saif’s place at Fortune Heights in Bandra.

Again, it was time for a fresh round of celebrations. Last afternoon was assigned to a special daawat for close family members of the newly weds. That included Sharmila Tagore, Soha and Saba Ali Khan, Kunal Khemmu, Randhir Kapoor, Babita and Karisma apart from Saif and Kareena.

If insiders are to be believed, the couple wasn’t allowed any non-vegetarian fare after their saat pheras the previous evening. Hence, the Chote Nawab planned this elaborate lunch for those of the family who missed out on their favourite cuisine.

And it didn’t stop there. At the time of going to press, we learnt nearly 15 to 20 of the couple’s close friends had been invited to their home for dinner with the food being ordered from one of Saifeena’s favourite eating places in Sobo.

Saif and Kareena will fly to Pataudi today for the Nikaah and Daawat-e-Walima . Thereafter, we hear, they are taking off to one of the Mediterranean islands for their honeymoon.

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; October 17, 2012)

While the entire country is going bonkers about the Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor nuptials, our sources close to the royal family say that an intimate but significant event will take place far from the madding crowd today. The newlyweds will travel to the Pataudi Palace to take part in a family dinner that will see 36 handpicked family members attend the celebrations.

The invited guests belong to Saif’s extended family all the way from London, Islamabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Our source says, “The celebration is a close-knit affair as both the families are skeptical because of security reasons which Sharmila Tagore had admitted to, during her visit to Bhopal earlier in August.”

Our source from Pataudi elaborates, “The family has gone all out to impress the Kapoors! The arrangements at the Pataudi House are minimalistic from the outside but the palace is filled with grand masterpieces belonging to the erstwhile rulers of the Bhopal State. Tiger Pataudi’s mother Sajida Sultan was the daughter of the last ruler of Bhopal, Nawab Hamidullah Khan.” The palace is also filled with priceless crockery and artwork by artistes like MF Husain, S G Thakur Singh and the others.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor may choose to stay mum on it, but their wedding is definitely taking place this month. At least the Daawat, we know for sure, has been scheduled for October 18 in Pataudi. And now, Mirror has learnt that the days leading up to the reception will also be full of celebrations. In fact, the actors, who are known to frequent a south Mumbai five star – the place where Saif had his infamous ‘brawl’, have booked the hotel for the wedding functions.

“They have booked the hotel from October 13 to 17 for the various functions that are to be held before their wedding day,” an insider told Mirror.

We learnt that the security of the hotel has also been strengthened for those days.

Interestingly, according to the insider, Saif and Kareena have also booked another south Mumbai five star and a Juhu hotel for the same dates. “Perhaps they want to divert media attention. Or maybe they just want to put up their guests in the hotels,” said the insider.

As for the preparations in Pataudi, a Gurgaon hotel has already been booked, said the insider. “They have also arranged to land on a helipad nearby,” added the insider.

Star Plus, which had a successful run of its Star Bestsellers years ago, is all set to bring back the concept, albeit in a different format. Slotted as telefilms, each one will be of one-and-a-half hour duration and will probably be a weekend fare. The films will basically be love stories to be showcased under the block Teri Meri Love Stories.

The channel has commissioned established TV producers to make the telefilms. These include Rajan Shahi, Yash Patnaik, Pearl Grey, Neeraj Sachdev and Hemal Thakkar. While Rajan has already finished shooting his film, the others are still to lock in the cast and finalise the location for their story. A source informs that Rajan’s film is slated to be aired first.

When contacted, Rajan confirmed that he has shot a telefilm and that it is based in Pataudi. In fact his unit has just returned from Pataudi after shooting continuously for 14 days. When asked if the location had anything to do with actors Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan’s impending wedding, Rajan denied it. “I just thought Pataudi was the perfect backdrop for the beautiful love story. We have also shot in Delhi and Mumbai,” he said. His film stars Gautam Rode, Vishal Punjabi, Dimple Jhangiani and the lead girl is being played by a newcomer Mala. Yash Patnaik’sslice-of-life romcom based in Delhi has so far only Sahil Chhada confirmed do a pivotal role. The producer is looking out for the lead couple. The More >

Insists that the nuptials will take place in October itself and in India

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; July 18, 2012)

There was some buzz lately about Sharmila Tagore and her family’s impending visit to Bhopal to sort out the details of the Saifeena wedding. However, Sharmila rubbishes these reports and states that the planning around the nuptials is going steady and that the ceremony will take place either in Pataudi or Mumbai.

The veteran actress states, “There is no point to go to Bhopal during Ramazan. I will go after Eid, Inshaallah!” and adds, “The venue will be Pataudi or Mumbai. With Tiger passing away, we want a very quiet wedding. Saif Miyan is the busiest man on the planet. He wants to do the wedding in Pataudi but apparently Kareena’s parents want it in Mumbai.”

The big fat Indian wedding In fact, Sharmila doesn’t mind the traditions around an Indian wedding. She says, “Shaadi toh ladki ke ghar se hi honi chahiye. Dabboo ji (Randhir Kapoor) will decide on the wedding venue. Everything is going very smoothly.” Once again reiterating that Bebo will in fact be wearing Sharmila’s wedding outfit, the actress says, “Kareena will be wearing the royal clothes and the jewellery that I wore. But there is a lot of work to be done still.”

Date drama Regarding the buzz around the couple wishing to postpone the wedding to December, Sharmila asserts that it will take place in October, as was earlier reported. She laughs and says, “I am giving a warning to Saif. I am confirming More >

Kareena Kapoor to join the Pataudis at Lords

With Saif, Soha, Sabah and Sharmila Tagore, she’ll attend a memorial dinner in honour of Tiger Pataudi hosted by an elite cricket club

Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 12, 2012)

The wedding may be a few months away. But Kareena Kapoor is set to join the Pataudis for a very special trip to London. Mirror has learnt that along with Bebo, Sharmila Tagore, Saif, Soha and Sabah will be in the city to attend a dinner hosted by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in memory of the patriarch Mansoor Ali Khan ‘Tiger’ Pataudi who passed away on September 22, 2011.

“The MCC is holding a very special dinner in my father’s memory at the Long Room in Lords,” Soha told Mirror, adding, “We are all going.”

The relationship between the London club and the Nawabs of Pataudi goes back a long way. While the senior Nawab of Pataudi wore MCC colours on England’s tour of Australia way back in 1932-33, his son, Tiger Pataudi, captained India at Lords in 1967. In fact, in recognition of the family’s contribution to cricket, MCC commissioned The Pataudi trophy in 2007.

And thus the family members went out of their way to attend the special memorial service held by the club. According to a source, while Saif Ali Khan who has been busy with his forthcoming film Cocktail took a few days off, sister Soha excused herself from the Saheb Biwi Gangster sequel schedule in Gujarat to attend this dinner.

What’s more, Mirror has learnt that Saif’s beau Kareena Kapoor and Soha’s boyfriend Kunal Khemu will More >

I’d lost my power to concentrate-Sharmila Tagore

Sharmila in a chat with Mirror, talks about life after Tiger, Saif-Kareena and other matters close to her heart

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 5, 2012)

It’s been a roller coaster ride for the family ever since Mansur Ali Khan (Tiger) Pataudi passed away on September 22 last year. Despite not wanting to be crowned the next (tenth) nawab of Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan had to give in to the wishes of the people of the princely state. The hitherto chote nawab is acutely aware of the many responsibilities the title brings with it. Meanwhile, Sharmila Tagore stands on a bittersweet fork, between coping with the loss of her better half on the one hand and preparing for Saif’s and Soha’s impending marriages on the other.

How are you dealing with the changed circumstances? I really don’t know. Some days are okay, others are not so good. There are times when all that I shared with Tiger seems unreal. Initially, I had completely lost my power to concentrate on anything. At a film festival in Kolkata in November, it was an ordeal speaking even a few lines. I would forget what I was saying. The NDDC film festival in January was a shade better. Things have improved now.

One has to find ways of forgetting the pain… I read Rabindranath Tagore’s poetry on stage with Soumitra Chatterjee in January. It was enriching. I had never done anything on stage, where your performance gets an instant response from the audience. While shooting for a film, you only get the fragmented feedback of a More >
