Actor Akshay Kumar, who’s just had a mini-vacation in Singapore with son Aarav is gearing to plunge headlong into work again. The actor is currently juggling his films Joker with Oh My God as well as Khiladi 786, but these films on floor apart, Akshay’s also into pre-production for Naam Hai Boss. His back-to-back films apart, apparently what the actor’s also excited about is hitting the 100 mark with his upcoming sci-fi flick. “Joker will be Akshay’s 100th big screen outing and more than him it’s his co-stars including Sonakshi (Sinha) who are excited about being a part of his 100th film,” says a source.

“This year has been a year of 100s for him and filmwise too it’s a 100 and going strong, for him,” adds a film insider also talking about the actor hitting the Rs100 crore mark twice this year after a dull phase in his career.

Talking about his journey in Bollywood, the actor says that even though there have been films that haven’t hit bullseye at the BO, he’s happy to have treaded his own path. “The one most important thing I’ve learnt here is that the Friday numbers don’t matter beyond the theatres. I have learnt to leave them where they belong before I get home,” smiles Akshay.

The actor, who’s been on a hit spree this year, despite the buzz of all the Rs100 crore pressure on his upcoming films, adds “Sure, I would like all my films to do well, but I never aim for a Rs100 crore as such, so that’s never an added pressure for me More >

Makers of Oh My God tweak the film to include a special song for the actress and recreate box-office magic with her Rowdy co-star

In an industry driven by superstitions, faith and fame, heroes may command the fatter pay packets. But it is the heroines who take the blame or the credit for the film’s success. Little wonder then every Friday, a new lucky mascot is anointed by the ones who stake their money and their lives on the marquee.

And the newest entrant on this shrine to luck and lucre is Sonakshi Sinha. After the runaway commercial success of Akshay-starrer Rowdy Rathore, Sonakshi has been signed on make a few sizzling moves to the tune of a fast-paced number in Oh My God, co-produced by Akshay along with Ashwini Yardi under their banner Grazing Goat Productions. For a long time, industry punters believed the Akshay-Katrina pairing was a fool-proof winning formula. From the looks of it, there is now a new girl on the block.

When contacted, Ashwini confirmed the news. “Yes, we have just signed up Sonakshi.” Interestingly, the film, based on Lord Krishna, has very little scope for a leading lady, and the small part is being essayed by Nidhi Subbaiah.

Clearly, the scope of the project has been expanded overnight to accommodate Sonakshi’s newfound stardom. Is she Akshay’s lucky charm? According to a source close to the development, not only the actor, the team is keen to repeat Prabhu Dheva as well, since the trio clicked More >

A stranger who sneaked into the actor’s vanity van, was tackled by him before being handed over to the cops. The man says he wanted to check IPL scores

BOMBAY TIMES (Mat 7, 2012)

Cricket in India is not just a sport. It is a religion for some who build temples for their favourite batsmen and bowlers. It also re ignites the feeling of patriotism in every Indian heart time and again. It is the pitch where not just the eleven players, but also a zillion other celebrities showcase their talents. The last one brought into prominence by a more recent form of the sport titled IPL or the Indian Premier League. And on Saturday, Akshay Kumar on the sets of his production Oh My God!, got a taste of the condition better known as IPL fever in a rather shocking way.

While the crew was busy celebrating Akshay’s dressman Shafiq’s birthday, a local drug addict entered the actor’s vanity van. And when the Khiladi came in to check on the score of the ongoing IPL match between Kolkata and Pune, he came face to face with the strange man apparently doing the same. And while the cricketers continued with their game on TV, a different kind of sport (read wrestling) ensued on front of the television screen.

A source from the sets told Mirror, “Everyone in the unit was busy celebrating. Akshay decided to go into his van and check the cricket score. He was shocked to see an unidentified man in his room.”

Jackky Bhagnani should be a happy boy. Dad Vashu signs up Akshay Kumar’s big find, Nidhi, for his film, pouring cold water over the star’s grand plans

Kunal M Shah and Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 19, 2012)

After giving his son Jackky two chances that included a successful F.A.L.T.U to establish himself in the industry, filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani had decided to go out of his way to be the best daddy of Bollywood. Earlier, we had told you how Vashu had been ready to shell out wads of green to get the perfect leading lady to star opposite his little one. And having zeroed down on the director, Sanjay Gadhvi, the producer papa has now snatched away Akshay Kumar’s bundle of secret to star in his project. Mirror has learnt that Nidhi Subbaiah, the Kannada actress who was roped in by the Khiladi Kumar to make her Bollywood debut in his production Oh My God, will now romance junior Bhagnani in his next, Ajab Gazabb Love.

Interestingly, Nidhi had been signed on by Akshay Kumar and Ashwini Yardi, the co-owners of Grazing Goat Productions, to star in their project Oh My God provided she treated this film as her Bollywood launch pad. In fact, Akshay had made elaborate plans for her launch. And thus, Nidhi’s decision to work with the Bhagnanis hasn’t gone down too well with him.

A spokesperson from Grazing Goat Productions told Mirror, “We have no problems with her doing any films as she has just done a small role as a character artiste in OMG. She doesn’t have even one More >

Chitrangda Singh lookalike in B-Town

Nidhi Subbaiaha has signed first film with Akshay Kumar

Tushar Joshi (BOMBAY TIMES; March 22, 2012)

There have been several times when South actress Nidhi Subbaiaha, who has done seven Kannada films so far, has been mistaken for Chitrangda Singh. We don’t blame those people, because there is a startling similarity between the two. Ask her about the comparisons and she says, “I get that all the time, but I don’t want to be somebody’s mirror image. I think Chitrangda is gorgeous, but I am my own person.”

Nidhi, who has just signed her first Hindi film Oh My God! with Akshay Kumar, reveals her entry into B-town was quite filmi. “I was at the Bombay Times party with my friends in November last year, and Akshay and John Abraham were around promoting Desi Boyz. After they left, someone came and told me that Akshay had noticed me and wanted me to come for an audition. I thought it was a joke and didn’t show much interest. I gave him my email address and left the party thinking it was someone wanting to get fresh with me!”

But the next day, when she received an email calling her for an audition, Nidhi was super excited. “I couldn’t believe Akshay had actually shown interest in me,” she says.

Keen to do more films in B-Town, she adds, “People down South recognise me because of my films, but it will be great to have more people watch my work.”

By Bollywood Hungama News Network ,Feb 8, 2012 – 17:37 hrs IST

Akshay Kumar will be seen sporting different looks in his forthcoming film Oh My God. He will be seen in various getups like that of a Hindu in dhoti and Jodhpuri, a Muslim in pathani suit and even a funky look of a cool dude biker.

Oh My God is adapted from the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Gujarati play, Kanji Virrudh Kanji which was later launched in Hindi with title Kishen Vs Kanhaiya. It tells a story of an atheist played by Paresh Rawal, who incurs huge losses when his antique shop is destroyed by an earthquake after which he challenges God. Akshay has different looks as he represents different religions in the film.

Oh My God is Akshay’s first co-production with Ashwini Yardi under his recently set up production company, Grazing Goat, and will be directed by Umesh Shukla, who had also directed the play it is based on.
