THEY STILL ROCK: (L-R) Arindam Chaudhuri, Rishi, Neetu and Ranbir Kapoor

They were once called India’s sweethearts – now they’re back!

Suruchi Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; October 13, 2010)

They were last seen together on screen in the movie Dhan Daulat way back in 1979, just before they got married. And now, after 30 long years, the power couple of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor is back to win people’s hearts. Do Dooni Chaar, which released on October 8, is also being described as Neetu’s big comeback. The movie, in its very first week, has seen a good response and is being described as a celebration of the common man’s life in a heart warming and entertaining manner. Debutant director Habib Faisal has also garnered praise for his first venture from scriptwriter Jaideep Sahni and others. Jaideep says, “After contributing to many directors’ films with his writing, Habib has made his mark with a lovely film.”

The producer of the film, Arindam Chaudhuri, managed to pull off a coup of sorts to bring back yesteryears’ superhit jodi after 30 years. How and why did he think of bringing them together? “The reason was the novelty factor. Once the script was ready, we thought of getting Rishi Kapoor for the lead actor and almost simultaneously, Habib, the director, Shubho, the executive producer and I thought of getting Neetuji too,” shares Arindam. Was it difficult getting both of them together? “Not very difficult,” says Arindam, adding, “Rishiji agreed More >

Get this clear, Rai…ght away. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan does not fancy being called “Ash”… and asserted the stance, post her recent stunning appearance on the ramp, after a hiatus of over 15 years.

“I’ve been trying to get rid of this nickname for years,” groans Aishwarya in a media talk. “It’s so sweet of Abhishek also to step in.” Reportedly, Abhy Boy too has ably requested the scribe tribe to refrain from referring to his spouse by the irksome nick.

Even as Aishwarya stepped onto the ramp as showstopper at the HDIL India Couture Week, sporting an awe inspiring creation styled up by Manish Malhotra, there was palpable excitement in the air. And love too rent the air… as Aishwarya blew kisses at her hubby during her catwalk.

Most canny folks imagined that Ash, oops…. sooorrrrryyyyyyy, Aishwarya’s appearance on the ramp was merely a strategy for greater spotlight since ‘Robot’ just released to thunderous applause and the actress has ‘Action Replayy’ and ‘Guzaarish’ on the anvil.

Expecting the query, she states, “I promise you that’s not the case. If only you see the number of SMSs and pings that we have exchanged over the years, about walking the ramp for Manish, you’ll know that this is the only one that could have worked out. Since I stopped active modelling, I’ve only walked the ramp for brands that I endorse.”

Reportedly, Karan Johar and Shahab Durazi had both requested ARB to grace their ramps, thought paucity of More >

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has taken Lekha Washington under his wings. Lekha is Santoshi’s latest muse. Buzz is that Santoshi has signed Lekha for a three-film deal.

The first film in question is Power. Produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, it has already gone on the floors.

Says a source, “Power is a fabulous opportunity for Lekha. It’s a very big film with top actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan, It will be a great learning platform of acting for Lekha.” Mentor ho toh aisa!

The industry is also buzzing that Lekha has been paid a bomb for Power. “Santoshi facilitated a handsome fee for her as well.

So what if she has done only one film till now (Peter Gaya Kaam Se opposite Rajeev Khandelwal) which too hasn’t released yet? He sees a lot of potential in her.”

Sonam upset at being ignored by Bhansali

So desperate is she about him watching her films that she has picked up the DVDs and is heading to his home, once he’s less busy with Guzaarish Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

Sonam Kapoor is unhappy with her mentor and guide Sanjay Leela Bhansali who launched her in Saawariya.

Says the actress, “He hasn’t watched one of my films since Saawariya. Not Delhi 6, not I Hate Luv Storys, not even Aisha, my home production, which I’m especially proud of. I invited him for a private screening but you know how he is. He’s so consumed by his new film Guzaarish he can’t think of anything else.”

Now Sonam has resorted to taking all the DVDs of her films to his home.

“His opinion of me as an actress is important to me. Unless he says I’ve evolved I won’t fully believe it. But first, let him be done with Guzaarish,” she says as she tries to get her groove back after a nasty bout of typhoid which confined her to her bed for a good three weeks.

Also, a bout of box-office success might also just do the trick.

Coming soon: Rakhi’s swayamvar season 2!

MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010

After ending her relationship with Elesh Parujanwala, Rakhi Sawant’s dreams of marrying an eligible bachelor on national television came crashing down. The controversy queen is now looking at a fresh start with another season of the same reality show.

According to a source from the TV channel on which the earlier seasons were aired, Rakhi is in talks with the channel officials to start preparing for her ‘marriage’. “Rakhi Sawant is now asking the channel to zero-in on some rich and decent guys.

She has asked them to verify each person in detail and also said that she will take personal interest in checking on all the prospective candidates, so nobody can blame the channel later,” says the source.

Apparently, there will be no limits in choosing a groom this time, including that of age. It doesn’t matter to Rakhi how old her groom is.

The actress has apparently asked the channel officials to inform all contestants about her past to avoid problems in the future. Rakhi says, “I want to again do my swayamvar because I want to get married. I want someone rich who can accept all my secrets. I have always been betrayed by people but now I do not want these things repeated. And I think I am going to get him this time because I believe God has made someone special for me. I want someone who loves me, and not my fame or money.”

Wait, didn’t she say she wanted someone rich?

The fight between Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan over the remake rights of Telugu film Don Sheenu just got bigger

Mauli Singh (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

Soon after Mirror reported (September 25, 2010) that three Bollywood A-listers, Salman, Saif and Akshay are fighting for the remake rights of Telugu super hit Don Seenu, more players have joined in.

And this time the war will be between two studios for producing the remake.

A reliable source revealed, “Eros International wishes to produce the film with Salman Khan and wants it to be directed by Sohail Khan. And Studio 18 wants to make it with Akshay Kumar as lead and Shirish Kunder as director.”

The director Gopichand Malineni didn’t confirm or deny the story but added, “Even Madhu Mantena (producer of Ghajini) is keen on watching the film.” Madhu Mantena confirmed this too.

Added to this, Shirish Kunder too confirmed watching the film but expressed ignorance about directing its remake.

Meanwhile, the source also claimed that Salman Khan has won the race and Eros will produce the film, “Since Salman is very busy, the film is expected to go on floors only next year and will be entirely shot in Switzerland.”

Ram Mirchandani, Chief Creative Officer of Eros finally said, “Eros has indeed seen Don Seenu and finds it has solid potential to be a Hindi blockbuster. We still haven’t locked the cast or the director, as we haven’t yet officially bought the rights.”

On a holiday trip to Thailand, Farah Khan and husband Shirish Kunder flew business class, while the kids and their nannies flew economy

Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

On Tuesday night, choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan and her husband Shirish Kunder took off for a lavish holiday to Thailand. Not just the couple; they took their three children Czar, Anya and Diva as well. And that’s not all. The kids’ governesses also accompanied them. How adorable!

But here’s a shocker. While flying to their holiday destination, the couple was seated in business class and the kids and nannies in economy class.

An eyewitness reveals, “The entire family took off to Bangkok on Tuesday night. I saw Farah and Shirish seated in the business class (seat numbers: 2A and 2C). The kids Czar, Anya and Diva were seated in economy class (seat numbers 11 A, B and C) and their nannies Philomena D’souza, Mrs V Dhanavade and Mrs S Hadshi nearby (seat numbers 12 A, B and C). The business class was full, so there wasn’t any scope to get the kids and the nannies upgraded.”

Apparently, the triplets were shuttling between economy and business class, and were busy playing with each other, occasionally being cautioned by their nannies to be careful. “But the entire journey was quite pleasant,” adds the eyewitness.

It’s possible that only two tickets were available in business class for the kids but it might’ve been a problem to seat the third More >

In the wake of Robot’s blockbusterdom, the Roshans are allegedly having second thoughts about this sequel

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

Rajnikanth starrer Robot pushed the panic buttons in Shah Rukh Khan’s office. It is now doing the same in Rakesh Roshan’s office.

The latest whispers in Bollywood are that the Roshans are not too sure if they should go ahead with the sequel to their super hit Krrish (which released in 2006).

When contacted, Hrithik categorically said, “The film has not been shelved.” According to a source close to the film, “Krrish 2 is definitely not shelved. But what is sure is that Rakesh and Hrithik feel that a lot more work needs to be done on Krrish 2.

The arrival and the subsequent success of Robot has changed equations in the industry.”

Adds the source, “Krrish 2 will definitely happen, but at a later date. As of now, it seems that the Roshans’ next will not be Krrish 2.” When we asked Roshan Sr about this reported delay, he replied, “Not decided.”

We then asked him if Krrish 2 was taking time since he wanted to raise it to the highest standards possible. To this he replied, “No, not correct. I might start Krrish; wait for the announcement.”

Knowing Roshan Sr’s conceptualization, development and execution expertise, we wouldn’t be surprised if Krrish 2 goes on floors sooner than expected. But for now, it is on the backburner for some serious engineering.

Shahid-Priyanka wont appear together in KJo’s show?

The forthcoming season of Karan Johar’s popular TV show may not see Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra together; their relationship is apparently not serious enough

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

Agreed, this newspaper has given you ample proof that they’re in love but the truth was never a bed of roses. Shahid and Priyanka’s relationship has some serious shades of grey.

While Karan Johar and the broadcaster of Koffee With Karan are hoping Shahid and Priyanka would soon be seen in the forthcoming season of the show, Shahid has other plans. Shooting for the forthcoming season starts at the end of this month. But apparently, Shahid has refused to aprticipate in the show because Priyanka and he are still not in a very serious relationship; they’re dating.

Interestingly, at the time when he was dating Kareena Kapoor, Sasha appeared on the second season of Karan’s show with her. That’s history.

Says a source, “Shahid is still not sure about Priyanka. She is very important and dear to him but he would rather take some more time and make the relationship stronger than appear on national television making statements about it.”

While Priyanka was reportedly coaxing the Moranis to convince Shahid to join their forthcoming world tour (slated for next year), Shahid turned it down. The Moranis hven’t given up on him though.

Moreover, Shahid and Priyanka apparently still have fights very often. Adds the source, “This is More >
