Akshay Kumar turns singer

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; May 8, 2011)

Akshay Kumar has entertained viewers with his action and comedy skills. And even impressed us with his culinary skills. But with his upcoming adventure reality show, we will see the Khiladi Kumar in a new avatar. This time, he’s not leaping off a building or turning up the heat in the kitchen. His weapon of choice is the microphone. Akshay has lent his voice for a song that is being turned into a music video for the TV show. The video features the show’s contestants. Maybe Akshay should consider cutting his own album after this, considering the fact that he’s already jammed with Snoop Dog and now sung for this video. And certainly the stunners of his reality show would be happy to appear in his video. So, any plans Akki?

Chak Glassi to recreate Chaar Phir Baj Gaye magic

By Joginder Tuteja, April 30, 2011 – 11:29 IST

It is time yet again for ‘Chaar Baj Gaye’ and seems like for Remo D’Souza, party abhi baaki hai! So impressed are the young makers of upcoming comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama with the song and it’s super success that they have pronto summoned Remo to repeat the same magic for their film as well. Though Remo has moved on to the next level by being a full time director, he has consented to choreograph a club song called ‘Chak Glassi’ for the film.

Confirms Abhishek Pathak, producer of Pyaar Ka Punchnama that launches six newcomers, “The world is singing ‘Char Baj Gaye’ today and it is not just due to it’s music but also due to the way it was choreographed and picturised. We have a party situation for our film and it was just apt that Remo makes it extra special for us with the song ‘Chak Glassi’.”

In the film, the song arrives at a crucial juncture in the film when three youngsters (Kartik Tiwari, Rayo Bhakirta, Divyendu Sharma) are joined by their respective girlfriends (Nushrat Bharucha, Ishita Sharma, Sonalli Sehgall) in Goa. A party song follows which not just acts as an eye candy affair but also brings a twist in the tale.

Though the makers aren’t willing to reveal much beyond this, they do promise that ‘Chak Glassi’ would add on to the celebration season after ‘Char Baj Gaye’. Says first time director Luv Ranjan, “The song is of, for and by the youth. The basic requirement was to have a catchy tune and that’s More >

Salman’s Ready is unsteady

Sallu, it seems, is the new perfectionist in town. After watching rushes orders Ready song to be re-shot with a new choreographer

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 12, 2011)

Salman Khan’s friendship with Aamir seems to be rubbing off on him. Taking a cue from the perfectionist actor, Sallu, too has been trying to raise the bar every time in his films. And now, it is time for Anees Bazmee’s Ready to keep up to the actor’s expectations.

Recently, after seeing a song picturised on Khan, the actor asked for a re-shoot. Looks like, after his latkas and jhatkas in Prabhu Devaa choreographed songs in Wanted and the successful Munni Badnaam Hui in Dabanng, the actor wants his dance numbers to keep up to the mark.

The song in question, Pyaar Ke Naam Pe Doosre Karen Toh Raasleela Hai, Main Karoon Toh Character Dheela Hai, initially choreographed by Raju Khan, on the insistence of the team of Ready, particularly Salman Khan will now be re-shot.

A source close to the film says, “The film Ready has worked out very well. Everybody from the cast and crew is extremely happy with it. And when you see everything after the shoot is over, there is always scope for improvement. After Dabangg, Ready should be a case of sone pe suhaga.”

And to create that extra dazzle, a new choreographer will be roped in for the Character Dheela number. Buzz is that Munni Badnaam Hui maker Farah Khan is being considered to design the new steps.

The re-shoot will take place at Film More >

We’re more transparent than Americans-Sharmila Tagore

0

Sharmila Tagore is only the second person to chair the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for two full terms. A three-month extension enabled the I&B ministry to find a successor, giving Tagore the distinction of the longest tenure in that office. The legendary actress, who debuted 52 years ago in Satyajit Ray’s “Apur Sansar”, continues her film career with the just released “Life Goes On”. She spoke to Ratnottama Sengupta on her last day in office at the CBFC. Excerpts:

Ratnottama Sengupta (THE TIMES OF INDIA; April 3, 2011) What do you think you achieved as CBFC chief and what have you learnt? • I realized that we’re far more transparent than the Americans. We speak to the press whenever they want to discuss a decision; we’re not “all white”’ nor all of “a certain age”. Their debate is about “why X, not A”; ours is about “why UA, not U”. Except for “Ghajini” which fell through the net, we give ‘UA’ if there’s violence, item songs, expletives… Tell me honestly, is “Kaminey” watchable by a 12-year-old?

Sometimes a single dialogue tarnishes the dignity of women. One character in “Raajneeti” gave the impression that every woman sleeps around to get a ticket (in elections). Sometimes friendly relations with a country can’t be jeopardized. As an insider, I understand the compulsions of both the industry and the audience. I also know that some people take advantage of our openness and go to the press for publicity. Still, and More >

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, March 4, 2011 – 14:53 IST

Abhishek Bachchan along with co-stars Kangna Ranaut and Sarah Jane Dias shot for an end credits video (‘Kaun Hai Ajnabee‘ track) for Excel Entertainment’s next action thriller Game. Just like his well-received ‘Right Here Right Now‘ track in Bluffmaster (2005), the makers of Game feel this music video will also get the audience thumping. Explains the director Abhinay Deo, “It is extremely stylish and slick along with a mystical quality. It gels with Abhishek’s persona in the film. We have not made him do heavy duty dance steps; it is all about his attitude. And Kangna and Sarah match him in it.”

Shot at Mehboob Studios, the choreography for music video has been done by Shiamak Davar. Says Shiamak,” I loved working with Abhishek, who is my favourite person, Abhinay Deo a very talented director and Kangna and Sarah who are both adorable to work with. It was something different that I did and loved doing every bit of it.”

The styling for the video has been done by Shyamali Arora while the music is by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.

Vir Das features in Delhi Belly music video

0

By Subhash K. Jha, March 3, 2011 – 11:36 IST

It’s stand-up comedian and Badmaash Company actor Vir Das who quietly shot a special music-video with choreographer Farah Khan for Imran Khan’s uncle Aamir’s production Delhi Belly on Feb 23.

Farah Khan, who left for Chandigarh for a month-long schedule of her husband’s directorial venture Joker, wrapped up the Delhi Belly song for Aamir and then headed for the cool climate of Chandigarh where Shirish Kunder shoots in the open fields for Joker.

Farah said before leaving, “Aamir’s song is in Mumbai. Then I leave with my babies and their maids for Chandigarh for a month for the Joker outdoors. I’m looking forward to taking my three babies to Chandigarh in pollution-free outdoors, not to mention the great food!”

As for the song why is it not being shot with Imran? According to a source, “When Aamir decided to do a music video for Delhi Belly, he was very clear it would be filmed on Vir Das and not on Imran. When it comes to doing what is right by a project, Aamir is unflappable.”

Delhi Belly director Abhinay Deo appears blissfully unaware of the extra song and dance for his film. When asked about it he remained tight-lipped. Abhinay has long moved on to another producer Ritesh Sidhwani and another film Game.

Asha Bhosle to make her acting debut in Maaee

var iurl ='http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href='+document.location+'&show_faces=false'; document.getElementById('fblike').src=iurl; // ]]> Talent is a strange thing. It often makes the talented do things that the world looks at and says, “Why?” Or “Why now?” Talent often has no answer other than to say, “Well, it just felt right.” And so you see artistes often branching out into fields other than their own, sometimes related to what they acquired fame in, sometimes not really related. So Tagore took up painting at a later stage in his life leaving an indelible mark on the field, actors like Aamir Khan and Robert Redford decided to direct. And now it is that living legend Asha Bhosle – whose voice has been instrumental in shaping the characters that actresses were trying to portray on screen – has decided to step in front of the camera herself.

Perhaps the signs of her acting ability were already seen in her music videos and even her on-camera interviews. No one who has seen Ashaji in her music videos can deny that she has an irresistible magnetism and undeniable charm on camera. It is that magnetism and charm that made producer Nitin Shankar decide on Ashaji as the perfect person to embody the title role in his debut Hindi Feature film Maaee. The film tells the poignant tale of what happens when a woman is abandoned by her only son and then goes to live with her daughter and

I’m very happy to be back-Chitrangada Singh

A critically-acclaimed debut, a three-year hiatus and a stellar comeback, the bold CHITRANGADA SINGH displays her bravosity and prowess as she recounts her journey

By RUCHIKA VYAS (iDIVA; February 26, 2011)

CAREER CHOICE It sort of chose me. After some print modelling, I did a music video for Gulzar saab. I got noticed and was called for the audition of Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. Fortunately, it all worked out.

OUTSIDER AMONG INSIDERS I had to make my own relationships. Also, when I returned to films after a three-year gap, I had to start all over again, which was a little difficult. But it is untrue that people have any prejudices if you’re not from a film background. As long you have talent and you’re good at your job, it’s enough. It gets a little tougher because you don’t get as many opportunities and things are not well planned for you. But I’m happy to have come so far and people have been very good to me.

THE THREE-YEAR TWITCH I want to state clearly that my husband had nothing to do with it! I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do at that point. It was a moment of indecision; I just wasn’t ready for it. I didn’t want it that bad, especially because it was so demanding. You have to be very committed to what you do, so I just thought I’ll think about it. I gave it a long thought, and after three years, I knew then that this is what I wanted to do. And I’m glad I took that break; it just made things so much clearer. More >

Ace ad filmmaker Ravi Udyawar to adapt Samit Basu’s bestselling urban fantasy fiction

Chandrima Pal (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 12, 2011)

The racey page-turner which has superhumans battling evil forces right from the mangroves of Versova to the streets of London and is liberally sprinkled with allusions and tributes to several super hero franchises was being eyed by several production houses keen to buy the film rights.
