The 56th Idea Filmfare Awards 2010 were presented at YashRaj Studio in Andheri at a star-studded ceremony that lasted well past mid night on Saturday.

Widely touted as the battle of the Khans, Filmfare 2010 was a keen confrontation between actor Shah Rukh Khan for My Name is Khan (MNIK) and Salman for the immensely popular Dabangg In the end, it was Shah Rukh who won the bout and walked away with top honours for MNIK. In a picture-perfect finale, SRK’s con fidante and co-star Kajol was voted best actress, and friend Karan Johar was adjudged best director 2010’s biggest commercial success Dabangg won the award for best film and best music. Commenting on the new and improved Filmfare trophy, lyricist Gulzar — who won for Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji — said, “Baad muddat ke phir mili ho tum, ye jo thodi si bhar gayi ho tum, ye vazan tumpe achcha lagta hai.”

Lending an egalitarian touch the nominations had a fair share of small films made by first-time directors and new actors. After taking a bow at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May last year, Udaan stormed the awards by winning seven trophies, the most for any film this year.
